Well I went to visit IDIoit and my timing was off about 12 degrees. Went from -3 to 9.
He was really helpful and I really enjoyed seeing his crazy and amazing projects in person.
After that trip I flushed my cooling system again and it's getting a lot cleaner. I also turned up my IP. YES I...
I thought it kicked in. But after over heating (according to the engine light) I pulled over and fan spun easily by hand. Which I don't think is supposed to happen. But it's my second fan clutch. My original fan was about the same.
I had a buddy who claims it should not lock up at highway...
I removed and resealed the oil cooler due to the fact that it was leaking externally. When I opened it up I found one end completely clogged with junk!
I took it apart and thoroughly cleaned it. Then removed radiator, heater core and thermostat and ran a hose through the top radiator hose with...
There is a sooty material in the coolant. Could be a head gasket blowing exhaust into the coolant. This thing originally had a radiator clogged solid and tons of gunk was blocking the water side of the oil cooler.
It only overheats under load in the hills.
Also there seems to be a lack of...
Time to do head gaskets and oil pan. Pretty sure exhaust is leaking into the water jacket. I think also a jacket may be plugged causing the over heating.
Question!!!
What about gaskets for the ats turbo kit? Will I have to make my own???? Or hope to re use them however unlikely...
I've also heard that the fuel cut off solenoid can become stuck. I'm going to look into putting some diesel additive to try to free it up. After all this truck sat for a good ten years before I started putting life back into it.
Also ordered a motorcraft thermostat and I'm going to get yet...
Funny thing wouldn't start back up last night after sitting about an hour.... started up no problem at all this morning.... what the heck?

Replaced fan clutch too. Drove it up the hill feeling pretty good. Once again over heated. Pegged the temp guage. I can easily spin the fan by hand with the motor off. Is the clutch defective??
Good thing is egt on pyrometer never went above 1000 degrees.

Installed guages.
Pyrometer seems to work well boost gauge is a 0-50 style so I thought I'd see some movement. But I only saw it boost to maybe 7 psi one time. Rest of the time looks like 2 maybe 3 ?? I know a 0-15 guage may be more accurate but I'm out if $$ to f with it for now and I mostly...
I was hopi g to get the hat off so I can make sure I don't get any shavings in there...
Maybe just use a greasy tap??

Where should I mount my boost guage bung? At my finger on the turbo with the flat spot? Or the black dot if marker?
Secondly I can't seem to get this hat off. Any tips??
Thanks guys getting closer to debugging this thing.

The truck runs awesome not towing. But you're right about never smoking
I'm really beginning to think it's mainly a gearing usssue. Maybe I need 4.88's?
First
I'm going to install the new fan clutch to fix over heating
Then I'm going to install the guages pyrometer and boost tomorrow...
Yeah it's a '92. I used to think it was a 94 but I have not found a way to update the title. Originally it was a 1987 2wd dually with a c6 and that's the rear end I have. So might be worth checking that out. I'm gonna put it in 4wd right now
