    Tricks for removing steering wheel?

Local auto dismantler can order a used steering column for $350 or I can order an alleged rebuilt unit for $500+shipping. 350 seems like a lot for a used part of unknown quality. Opinions?

    Tech-Time 3300 ??

I sanded the area on the damper with the line Again, I'm fairly sure if you take off the spring from the outside of the probe you will get a better fit and finally get a true reading as long as the damper isn't covered in gunk or corrosion. I tried cleaning out the probe receptacle with a...

    Tricks for removing steering wheel?

I hit it pretty hard with a 3lb mini sledge while putting pressure with my knees and pulling with my free hand but no luck. Bracing my feet on the floorboard while leveraging my 260lbs to pull and shake the wheel did it though.

    Tricks for removing steering wheel?

Managed to pull the wheel off with lots of shaking and parts blaster. Tried the hammer method but no joy there. Now the search for a column locally or pony up for the internet rebuilders. All the salvage databases I've checked came up with nada so far. I either need a parts runner or a parts...

New P/S pump but still stiff steering/won't return to center

No. I checked all the linkage in the front steering and can't find anything that's binding. New pump and steering gear changed nothing. Joints in the steering shaft assembly all move smooth and free. Stub shafts in axle spin freely through range of turning. Steering wheel moves smoother...

    Tricks for removing steering wheel?

I will definitely try the hammer method in the morning. I just love the two hammer method for removing the drag link from the pitman arm. Sometimes you need more cowbell and sometimes you need more hammer.

    Tricks for removing steering wheel?

My stiff and clunky steering seems to be rooted in the steering column but now the wrinkle is removing the steering wheel. I bought a puller and some bolts to thread into the two small holes at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions on the steering wheel but while attempting to remove the wheel the...

New P/S pump but still stiff steering/won't return to center

New steering gear and problem persists so I guess it's the column.

    Tech-Time 3300 ??

The injector line has to be very clean and I found a shot of WD-40 helped get a better reading, but, I had the same problem you described until I removed the spring from the probe. Just my .02

    Tech-Time 3300 ??

Does your magnet probe have a little springy doo-hicky around the barrel portion? If so, I had to remove that springy thing to get the probe close enough to the damper. About 1 business card thickness away from the damper seems to give a good reading.

New P/S pump but still stiff steering/won't return to center

Disconnected the drag link from the pitman arm and everything moves smoothly. At this point it seems either steering gear or column but columns are rather expensive it seems. No junkyards nearby have anything. I hate to do it but maybe tomorrow I just try another steering gear so I can either...

New P/S pump but still stiff steering/won't return to center

The tightness showed up suddenly. I drove out to a client's house about 30 miles and noticed nothing, truck sat all day, on the way home suddenly the steering was stiff and felt like I had only partial power steering. The 60 has been on for 5 years or so and the steering components were all...

New P/S pump but still stiff steering/won't return to center

With steering shaft disconnected the steering wheel spins OK but there does seem to be a tiny bit of drag and some sounds, not grinding but not smooth either. Definitely leaning towards the column rather than early failure on steering gear.

    IDI down...what would you do?

A lot of my decision would depend on how much the parts and labor estimate was, and how perfectly that truck suits your needs. A 2wd regular cab out where I live doesn't seem to hold much value so a major engine repair would be a real tough one to consider. I would check craigslist and FB...

New P/S pump but still stiff steering/won't return to center

No, that would have been too easy. Are these bearings relatively easy to replace?

New P/S pump but still stiff steering/won't return to center

Put on a new pump and still have the same symptoms. Steering feels stiff and takes a bit more effort than normal and the steering wheel will not return to center/straight like it usually does. I've never dealt with these symptoms before and some internet reading suggests various things from...

Preferred brand for power steering pump?

Well driving home after work tonight my steering suddenly felt a little odd--kind of like trying to steer with the engine off but nowhere near as hard to turn the wheels. Although my p/s pump is only a few years old I'm thinking it is the culprit. Steering box is about 2 years old and the...

    FAN UPGRADE COOLING/OVERHEATING

How hot have you seen the temp gauge registering? How long does it take to reach that temp? Assuming there are no clogs in the block and with all new cooling system parts it's difficult to see where it would overheat easily on the highway. Could the thermostat have been installed upside down...

My oil filter holds 3 quarts so yes I pre-fill, wait, does that mean I fill it before I fill it?

    1984 F250 Dana 60 Swap

Nice going. After I did my swap I noticed I had some diff lube that would leak out the driver side tube at the knuckle if I parked with that side on the downhill. I read up on the issue and found quite a few people with that same situation and the consensus was that if you slightly overfill...

Electric fuel pump wont push gas unless engine cranking?

There isn't a correct pump here since this is an aftermarket off-label use of the Facet pumps in question, which were often used on small 1.9liter diesel engines on refrigerated trailers if I remember accurately. I started with the pump you seem to think is correct and it performed horribly on...

Electric fuel pump wont push gas unless engine cranking?

With all the people who've had unsatisfactory performance with the Facet lift pump, which I am assuming you're using, why are you going that route? Yeah I still have one on my truck but that's only 'cuz I've been getting over back surgery for the last year and a half so fixing things that...

    Flickering battery light

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This absolutely. I made all new cables for the 3g swap so it was a hair more complicated than JY swapping but still quite easy.

    Outside wear both front tires.

Just a guess here but IF you have a kingpin front axle then worn bushing and spring in the upper kingpin assembly would also cause the tire wear you speak of. I had this on my front axle and it's a very cheap and easy fix. As an aside, it does help if you fill in your signature with your...
