    2017 Texas IDI Meet

My truck may not be ready, need to replace/repair heater hose and get it inspected. It is currently illegal to put on the road. Sounds easy, but it is not, we have the final touches left to do to the house we are selling and it has to be done by this weekend for final inspection before...

    2017 Texas IDI Meet

There are so many bathrooms and showers in that Park you don’t really need to use yours. We never did, just grey water from sink.

    Weighed the truck today

The 6.0 is not bad once it has been corrected, of course you know that. I passed one up a couple years ago I am sorry I passed on. The engine was fine, but the rest of the truck had been beat on.

    Weighed the truck today

Perhaps, but I know of three for sale near me right now with a blown turbo.

    Weighed the truck today

In addition, the cost of injectors and the injection pump is ridiculous. Sure, someone can buy cheap remans and pray they don’t destroy something, but to buy quality parts for a modern diesel cost more than most of us have in our whole truck. I had been looking for a decent LBZ but after...

Diesel Down! Lift Pump Issue. Advice Needed

I added inline filters for both tanks before the selector valve to prevent any trash from clogging it up again. They are cheap and easily replaced.

    Commercial tire question

I have Firestone TransForce AT’s on the Chevy, they do come in your size and I can honestly say I am happy with them. They were on the truck when I got it at 273k miles, the truck is about to turn over 314k miles and the tires still have a lot of tread on them. I have no idea how many miles...

    Any clue? (ID aftermarket parts)

The plate/mount in the back looks a lot like the one that was in the front of my Chevy. Mine was an old ATT service truck, and that plate held an arm that housed their WLAN connection and the laptop they used. The interesting thing is it is in the back seat area.

    Never trust generic t-stats

I got the truck finished up last Thursday. Purging was super easy, left it on the incline and squeezed the upper hose a few times and it burped beautifully. I also replaced the bent front bumper after banging the frame mounted brackets back close to correct. It was surprisingly hard to bend...

    Limitations

One of the secrets to building wealth is the never buy a new vehicle, you lose money the minute you drive it off the lot. Once you have a little wealth still avoid buying a new vehicle, it is still an instant loss. I prefer older vehicles and the wife prefers newer ones. She also never buys...

    Limitations

The 4.8 wasn’t really gutless with the 5 speed, Gibson headers and exhaust and a tune. :D In stock form with the auto, it certainly was. It was the truck I regret getting rid of the most, RCSB, lifted 4x4 sitting on 34’s. It rode like a tank but was very peppy. I do agree with the OP about...

    Limitations

The Denali has 3:73’s and only had the 6.0 in it for the years I am interested in. It will be highway use for my trips to the mountains several times a year. The AWD for snow and the air ride for my old body and the comfort it wants. My 2003 2500HD with the 6.0 and 4:10’s will be used for...

    Limitations

I have owned the 4.8, the 5.3 and the 6.0 and they are rock solid. The wife has a 2015 Z71 4wd with almost every available option, and the new 4.3 V6. Honestly, it has as much power as my old 4.8 had, and it is a comfortable ride too. I am looking for 2001 or 2002 Yukon XL Denali AWD, I have...

    Never trust generic t-stats

I learned long ago to pay the little extra for good parts, the guy I bought the truck from didn’t learn that. I got the gasket off the t-stat housing, the ball is there but was heavily calcified. It is cleaned and good enough to work again.

Are you using the Nitrite free or the pre-charged that needs an extender?

    Never trust generic t-stats

Thanks Scott, I saw it as well. There is more differing opinions on coolant than any other topic for these old trucks. I would run one if the newer OAT ones if I was positive every old piece of rubber had been replaced, but I cannot.

Is there any reason not to use the DELO ELC coolant? Other than it is hard to find locally and expensive? https://www.amazon.com/Delo-Antifreeze-Coolant-Concentrate-Gal/dp/B073VYSF6T/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1508292658&sr=1-1&keywords=Delo+ELC Scratch the Delo, staying with...

    Never trust generic t-stats

The surprising thing to me is the water passages I see in the block are clean, I expected some calcification on them. One thing I know, I don’t ever want to do this job again. I did this job in my old E38 BMW, it was 100 times easier and I did it about a month after back surgery. The price...

    Never trust generic t-stats

I have to scrape a lot of RTV off and I expect the ball to be there, but clogged up with calcium deposits. One or both of the two previous owners ran tap water in it. We have very hard water in Central Texas, I suspect I will have to give it a vinegar bath. I am also going to have to research...

    Never trust generic t-stats

I had decided several months ago to re-do my cooling system, the truck ran warm on the highway and the fan never kicked on. I didn’t have a real gauge in it until recently but haven’t been driving the truck except around our property. It had a squeak when accelerating or reving the engine, I...

an IDI as a ranch tank?

Mine, it is a beast. She far nothing has stopped it, we use it as the water truck on our property. If it gets scratched or beat up, no problem, it will never see the highway again.
