There is no proportioning valve in a 91. There is a valve screwed into the rear port on the master cylinder that is a pressure reducing valve.
The first question is what order did the problem occur in? Did you replace parts due to maintenance and then develop the no front brakes issue or did the...
I used to have a Cat 613 scraper that had one of these to push fuel from the tank in the very rear of the scraper can to the 3208 mounted in the front. Came from Cat that way. I stocked a spare because the common random failure those days was the little plastic piece that coupled the rotor to...
Another interesting problem is that the steel tubing the push on couplers attach to is 5/16 on one side and 3/8 on the other. On the supply line. The return is 5/16 both sides. So if it is the supply hose itself you can either just clamp the crap out of it or use the replacement plastic couplers...
If you have a stock fuel system the supply side is under suction and the return side has just the restriction of flow in the lines to build pressure. The spring lock couplings have one brown viton and one blue flourosilicone oring. They are replaceable with an oring pick and patience. Viton...
This is called Right Stuff. In my truck fleet shop (100+ trash trucks) all other silicone sealants were banned. Right Stuff the only product allowed.
It is so much better than RTV there is no comparison! What I did learn the hard way was not to put stock small block Chevy valve covers with it...
I was able to find a set on eBay after keeping the search open for a while. Patience is your friend. Just set a search for the Ford part #s. I found a set of cab mounts this way too, one by one. Had to have faith they would a show up and they did. Still looking for a trans mount for the 96 and a...
The early 99 fits only that.
The L99-2003 is even more difficult to build a mount for, the exhaust housing has a Marmon clamp to mount to uppipes. .84 housing wastegate stock. If I had a choice I would go a different way. However If this is a run what ya brung type of deal, I have seen...
And ther are reverse rotation. The 94-97 aren’t wastegated. There are 1.0 and .84 turbine housings available to replace the 1.15 original. There are other upgrades too. T4 flange. But because of the reverse rotation you are locked into one turbo.
This is why I mentioned earlier that after having a few of these in the past I would run F350 running gear. Remember the rear frame is narrow so only cab and chassis rear ends will fit. Another approach is to run the front and rear axles from a 99 to 04 F450 or550. Or better yet 05 and newer so...
The front axle is almost a unicorn. There were no F SD factory 4x4. The ones that do exist were converted by Quigley. Read $$$. Only affordable way to get one is stumble onto an old power company or RR or government truck or parts. Or use a single wheel F350 Dana 60 with adaptors to fit the 10...
The usual problem is that the increased friction is causing more force needed to trip the latch. Thus the door flexes at the inner latch handle mount ( one bolt!) and often even cracks there. Don’t try to weld it, there is a way to slip a fender washer into the clip but and stabilize it. For...
Most of the time what I find is the latch and handle mechanisms dry and gummed up with dirt. So far my OBS and Brick doors all work like new. Because I have removed the handle assembly and the latch asssembly from the door and cleaned well with solvent bath and carb spray. Then blown dry and...
No joke on keeping our right to fix our own! Sacramento County CA has just enacted a law making it illegal to repair your own car, even inside your own garage with the door shut. OK to do minor repair such as tune up, brake job, or oil change but no major repair and not disabled over 24 hrs. No...
Here is a thought:
I have been intrigued by the VM Moturi engines introduced in the Jeep Liberty. Looks like usage of VM continues to grow with the Dodge 1/2 tons. Is the base engine for the Banks retrofit package available in a wrecked Jeep or Dodge?
36 years after their debut someone has found the time and patience to really understand the pumps. Thanks Wes! I’m sure Mel from Connestoga helped push this a long as well as others.
On the VIM V10 tool....
I have done brake jobs on everything under the sun and the holdown springs on these brakes are the most frustrating I have dealt with on 40 years.
I bought the VIM B10 and it worked....kind of. 2 hours of heating and customizing later it works effortlessly on left or...
Another problem affecting all of us likely 1980 to 1997 is that all of the brake shoe cores in circulation for all new and most reman shoes are made incorrectly in the parking brake actuator area. In the area at the top of the shoe where the parking brake actuator wedges the brake shoes apart to...
Here is my retorque scenario:
100 garbage trucks out the gate daily.
Corporate policy wheels must be retorqued after min 8 hrs running. With hand torque wrench 500 ft lbs. Everything has to be tracked on paper.
Since most trash trucks have 4 axles, that is 800 wheel positions. 1,200 tires...
I’m voting for a stuck open valve since it rotates freely until it stops in a consistent spot with a a clunk. Look for a valve that is down and doesn’t come up as you rotate the engine. How much of a full rotation does it make before the clunk? 180*? 270?
Since the truck is new to you it wouldn’t hurt to put a new thermostat and while the coolant level is down look in the radiator for solder bloom and clogged tubes. On the other hand, I would not be concerned over 210 in hot weather. You are good to 230. 210 all day every day is fine. Spikes up...
