Mechanical lift pumps are very durable, but nothing is forever. Filters decrease PSI, moreover as they get dirty. A tired lift can go from borderline to less-than easily in that situation.
Have you cut open a filter to see if there is crap in it? If not then it's definitely not a filter issue...
I'm spitballing here since mine doesn't have that sensor, I'm guessing it's just a pressure sensor and your lift pump is getting tired. Also check the contacts, dirty wires etc can cause sensors to read wrong.
Just a guess.
I had a banks box too, before modding a intake snail to replace it. A 4 inch cone filter will mount to the cold air hole, I got better boost and everything after that modification. You could get a silicone 90 and some pipe to run the Donaldson there too. The prior owner had that crap kn...
In salem Dave's Power could probably handle it, and there are at least one machine shop nearby that could likely service the heads.
DP is always backed up though so expect it to take weeks+++.
There is or was, not sure now, an international shop on I-5 near hwy34, never dealt with them but...
Or live with it if its still in a safe enough range :), some glowplugs/people like to afterglow. The 80034 sound like a proper 12V plug so you should be able to run them extended periods. didn't someone say they did 18 minutes before quitting here?
Great info guys!
They heat up FAST, so the controller will kill them pretty quick.
My tired old engine before would start in 5-7 seconds, and it was in bad shape. I can only imagine the new engine would be even better.
If people didn't start experimenting we'd still be stuck with 200hp max IDIs. It is safe going tried and true, but sometimes a better option is around the corner. Your logic is solid for the automatic glow plug controller, but with manual glowing it's looking like we have some options.
I had...
I never had an issue, just barely tighten and loosen repeatedly if one snags. Like quarter or half turns not multiple full turns. And soot will fall off hopefully. Carbon will get blown out, its broken tips that are the worst but I don't recall people breaking the tips themselves when its a good...
Yeah from memory the gear spread wasn't much better than the zf5 anyway, just better spread.
I'd rather get an over under auxiliary with the 5 banger if you need more range
I could see one tapping into the starter relay post for hot, but not both. Maybe someone tried wiring up the glowplugs to come on during cranking? Or some weird backup relay...
Trace the wires and find out. It's not hard to start fresh but thats odd if true.
I used Bulgin Anti Vandal push button switches, they are spendy but very reliable and durable.
You can get them momentary, latching with or without LED rings. Ip 66 or 68 rating and tough.
Could always setup one for backup with a bypass, but I agree about the reliability factor. Sadly I don't think there's a good option for mechanical lifts for high power IDIs
True, a hard short should blow a fuse. If the short isn't "dead enough" and draws 29.99 amps the fuse won't blow but something could light off from the arcing/heat generated - my wild butt guess is 12v x 30a = 360w of energy in one tiny area can be bad. Rare I know, especially if everything is...
I gutted all the wiring to and from the controller myself...
With that relay you have two big posts and two little posts. One big post is connected to the battery positives, the other goes to the glowplugs. One little post is a ground, like an upside down T, and the other is the signal/switch...
Next time around I think I'll try the 80034. FYI a drill and dremel/grinder can diy lathe, just gently chuck the gp bulb with some tape maybe.
Sounds like fuel is leaking back to the tank, I have similar issues. I've been recommended to install a check cable on the fuel line but haven't yet.
