So what did you do with your truck today?

The diode is to prevent this backfeed. My brake controller is connected to the factory brake controller harness. Turns out this is a "known issue" with many older Ford pickups. The cheap brake controller it replaced didn't have this problem, it was likely "too dumb" and ignored.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Supposidly it is a big diode, so hopefully it works.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Installed a "Draw-Tite 20501 Electric Brake Controller Pulse Preventer" after discovering my new trailer brake controller (Tekonsa P3) applies the trailer brakes every time my hazard lights flash. Real eye opener when trying to pull out on a road with a steep grade with flashers to warn drivers...

    93 f250 7.3 na auto heater hose

2nd this... going on 4 years with Gates Green Stripes and they still look and feel new. FYI Gates sells a cheaper quality hose too, the Green Stripe hose littery has a green stripe on it. Had to argue a bit with the young parts guy at NAPA... until the old crusty parts guy walked out and told...

    Power steering pump replacement

On my 93 I was able to get the pulley puller on the pump with it still mounted. Once the pulley was removed, remove the mounting bolts and the pump slides out from the backside of the bracket. FYI, DON'T use a hammer to install the pulley on the new pump, you will damage it. The pulley puller...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Confused... usually upholstry shops will cut/make replacement foam if the original is shot... seen it done several times.

ZF5 rebuild preferences? DIY, rebuilder, etc.

There are a few rebuilders out there that still rebuild the ZF-5. Below are a couple I have bookmarked years ago. That said, I have never used them nor know what their reputation is. On the plus side my bookmarks are at least 5 years old, so the companies have been around for a while at...

    Vacuum pump death

Replaced mine a couple years ago with one from Rock Auto... don't remeber the brand but was surprised to see a warning tag on it saying it had to be filled with x-amount of oil before use. That's when I learned they have oil in them! Side note... didn't think about it at the time I installed...

So what did you do with your truck today?

The air compressor install was a couple weeks ago... Currently on a much needed vacation with the travel trailer, we followed the Natchez Trace Parkway from Rocky Springs, LA to the Ackerman, MS area. Awesome relaxing drive, all smooth two lane scenic byway, and all 50 MPH speed limit, so...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Got a great deal on an "open box" Viair onboard air compressor, almost 50% off for the "100% duty cycle" rated version. Was going to mount it under the truck.. but Viair's documentation says it is "weather resistant, not water/submersion proof" (even if you relocate the intake above water...

    1990 Ford F350 no crank

Do the troubleshooting... but don't be surprised if the starter is dead. Remans from the autoparts stores can be hit or miss. They're spendy, but the Powermaster 9050 gear reduction starters have a good reputation. I've been pretty happy with mine...

Tar like "gasket" around the trans tunnel?

This is the stuff (or very close to it) that the manufacturer uses on parts like this, you'll also find it sometimes around firewall penetrations. https://www.amazon.com/3M-08578-Black-Strip-Calk/dp/B000PEZ1L4

    Diesel Fuel Additives

Sounds like your ditributor was getting the "cheap stuff". B100 isn't quality controlled/regulated enough to provide consistant quality from distributor to distributor. Our "local" retail vender's B100 is spendy but seems to not have the is issue. When I worked near them I ran B100 in my IDI...

Anyone have experience with any good online factory service manual access?

I bought a CD for my 1993 on E-Bay that has the Motor/Powertrain manual, Body/Chassis manual, and the Turbo Diesel supplement; all in searchable PDF format. You could print it all if you really want to, Staples/Office Max would love you :) I believe this is the one I got...

    idi parts compatibility with PSD

    A/C Overpressure... or not??

Condenser is pretty clean, few stray bugs but otherwise clear and clean. I did find one maybe cause... I found the low pressure return hose was getting pinched between my air cleaner and the hood***. Maybe it was enough to reduce flow and build pressure on the high side acting like a clogged...

    A/C Overpressure... or not??

A/C gurus, looking for your help/input. Out of the blue today, while idling, twice the over pressure valve on the compressor dumped refrigerant like the system over-pressured, the 2nd time was right after pulling into my driveway and idling for maybe 30 seconds. Popped on the gauges, and...

Worried about my 7.3 IDIT's health

Same metals were high two test in a row... however I did a lot more heavy towing during the tine frame then I had in a long time. I'll be sending in a new sample soon, this round with very little towing so hopefully will see a drop.

Worried about my 7.3 IDIT's health

I've started keeping my eyes open for a 7.3 IDIT that I can start rebuilding on the side as I have time and money.... found two listed in junk yards... but over 500 miles away and the junk yards are not responding to their own listing... If anyone knows of a rebuildable IDIT within some sane...

EPA Sheriff, Nosy Karens and my truck

There are "holes" all over the place. I live in un-incorprated Harris County, less than 1 mile south of the Beltway 8 Toll Highway (south side of Houston), just west of Pearland, north of Friendswood. The city of Houston has annexed all the business properties around where we live so they get...
