Loading the truck up for a 630 mile drive over the next couple of days. May well be the farthest the truck has ever been from home. Have to spread it out since pregnant wife is cutting into my travel distance between stops. At least having the camper in the back makes it easy to find a rest...
I'd really be wondering about grounds if it is the whole cluster like that. All my gauges and lights work except the tach intermittently. I don't really rely on the tach for shifting, the engine has pretty good audio feedback for shift points, so I haven't really prioritized troubleshooting it.
Yeah the tachs can be pretty wonky. Mine works for a whilea then suddenly decides everything is about 1000rpm slower than normal. Funny how my manual transmissions goes from cruising at 2500rpm suddenly down to 1500rpm without slowing the truck.
Spent the last couple weekends repairing some water damage on the camper. Luckily it wasn't too far gone and I was able to park it in mom's barn out of the rain. Picked up the finished product today. Also got a timing meter for the truck in the mail so on to figure that out next.
Put in new front shocks, glow plugs, and returned lines. Even washed all the dirt off the truck and camper. Too bad I don't know when I'll get to take it out again, but have a trip down to california planned for later this year.
Took the camper up and spent two days skiing up at Mount Hood. Took a couple tries to get started but that was the coldest weather that truck has ever started in. Probably time to check glow plugs though as I think its been starting a bit harder this winter. Lows were forecast for single digits...
My neighbor has an '87 E250 based motorhome with a 351 and C6 behind it. Weight is about 8200#. He has had what I think to be low power but I'm not sure what to expect out of this setup. Climbing over the cascades he is struggling to hold 35 on hwy 26. I'm not sure how it should compare power...
What did you end up doing for a backup camera. I have been considering one for my truck with the camper. Kinda want a better view behind since people seem to like to get closer to me with the camper than without.
Drove out into the mountains this weekend with the camper for a quick near anniversary trip with the wife. Tested out the newly restored A/C the whole way back today, and managed to make both of us cold. A/C worked great and the truck decided to allow the passenger power window to start working...
CDR gets blamed for everything but it is more or less just an open tube normally. Packing any steel wool in it seems like a good way to insert steel wool somewhere in the engine it ought not go.
I believe on my truck I separated shroud and radiator and pulled the radiator and then took out the shroud. Was replacing the radiator so only took the shroud out to check hole alignment on the new radiator. May be looking under the hood of a van soon, so will try and remember to look and hope...
Exactly what I ended up doing was replacing parts with any leaks(oily spots or soap bubbles) also put some dye in when I charged it just in case I missed something.
Well finally got a chance to work on it today. Ended up finding a leak on the pressure switch fitting on the old dryer so I ended up swapping that out(hardest part of the process) and charging the system. The cheap amazon sniffer I got didn't seem to show any leaks(except maybe on the low side...
Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on that if I struggle too much more. The rain the last coupledays has kept me from doing anymore work on it unfortunately.
Do you have any details on the newer style hose you installed? I have the new orifice tube ready to put in with the new drier once I get what I can figured out on the system. There was a little bit of debris on the old orifice tube but the hoses on the compressor all looked clean inside.
Update...
Opened it up and just found what looks like a quick disconnect kind of mechanism, no screen. It does have a couple of flat rubber washers that don't match anything in the o-ring kit I got.
Truck sits tonight under vacuum. I'll see how it does overnight. In the meantime I shall search for more...
Well decided that was enough of a test and decided to open it up to start replacing o-rings and check for any significant debris. No sign of black death but maybe some powdery rust or somethign on the walls of stuff. Will have to evaluate further. As I get in looking for everything that should...
