So what did you do with your truck today?

Yep metal sleeve is in there. I decided to put a little more force on it and it seems to bend smoothly, so I think its okay, just tight. I'll probably put it together and call them on monday. Didn't finish the one side today, but its mostly reassembled the one side. The wife needed rescue from...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Is the shackle and bushing suppose to have such an interference fit like this? I'm at the point of reassembly and wasn't really expecting this sort of tight fit. The numbers on the parts are correct accord to energy suspensions website, but maybe I missed something.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Yeah drilling is where I am at with the leaf bushings. Maybe I'm just not getting enough heat in there or my air hammer is too weak, but the shackle bushing came out like a textbook example. It was in the worst shape by far.

So what did you do with your truck today?

First shackle bushing came out suspiciously easy, leaf spring bushings on the other hand are putting up more of a fight. Axle pivot bushings look pristine, but I have reason to believe they were replaced once already.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Can I get away with not unbilting driveline and steering? I'm taking calipers off regardless. Learned about the torsion thing the hardway on one side, so I'll have to change that around a little.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Getting started on a project this morning. Not sure I'll be doing the axle pivots, but they came in the kit. The spring bushings are looking pretty bad, and it seems like the bumpstop and the axle have been growing closer lately. Any tips on doing the bare minimum to get to the spring bushings?

    Whats this?

This screws into the water separator to the rear of the pull ring and turns on the water in fuel light. The wait to start light is for glowplugs cycling. Below is a couple pics showing the contacts sticking up and then installed in the truck with the connector attached. If you truck doesn't have...

Has anyone converted their R12 AC to 134a?

I converted mine a couple of years ago. I don't think the system had worked since around '93. It was easy enough to flush vacuum and fill with the harbor freight stuff I bought. Mine had leaked down and the previous owners(my parents) didn't want to pay to replace anything after a recharge...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Made it back home just in time for it to get hot at home. At least the AC worked the whole trip. Kinda figured out how many breaks the little one needs so we where able to make it back in one day without sleeping at a rest area. Truck ran well and we avoiding buying too much of that expensive...

    Bilstiens...not liking them.

I've got bilsteins on mine and it made a big improvement on the ancient monroes that were on there. I am running almost always with a camper on the back for a load.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Working our way down from Portland to Redding to meet up with some friends. This will be the first long road trip with the little one so we'll see how he likes it. Taking some extra stops.

So what did you do with your truck today?

By the time starbucks opens up here, I've made my own coffee and gone to work. Work has a brown liquid that resembles coffee, at least it seems to be slightly caffeinated brown water for cup 2 of the day.

    Whats this?

Those are for the water in fuel light. I believe they are power signal and ground but haven't checked the wiring diagram yet. I recently replace my water seperator with a racor unit so its not in my truck. Racor offers a sensor as an add on and I have considered seeing if I could hook that to...

Here is the one out of my recently decommisioned water seperator for reference.

It looks like the water probe out of the water separator.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Pulled the steering wheel to clean up up the contacts to try and get my 4 way flashers working and then finishing up a cupholder enhancement for the center console. I'll have to see if I need to add more of an ancor to hold it in place but it seems to have worked in a test drive to the gas station.

    Truetrak and Elocks Oh My!

I have that style rearend in a AWD Toyota Rav4 and its great. I want to put one in the truck, but we'll see if I ever do.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I've always just used a strap wrench, same one dad used when he owned the truck. I never let anybody else change the oil on my rigs though, seems those that do run into this problem with somewhat greater frequency.

    New head gaskets worth it?

How reliable are the guides on these? I just had to do them on my Toyota, and seems like they struggled a few years. The '01 Toyota was burning a lot more than the '86 Ford prior to that even with oil pouring out the Ford valve cover gasket.

    Recommendations for AC coolant.

It would be possible for a shadetree mechanic to do a conversion without swapping fittings or leaving the conversion fittings in place. Though I'm not sure I understand why one would suspect a conversion with no conversion parts.

Electrical problem on start (with engine temp?)

Here's the wiring diagrams http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/wiring-diagrams.html but I agree with everbody else that the lights coming on are unrelated to your failure to start. It is however possible that it didn't work before due to some electrical gremlin.

    Recommendations for AC coolant.

I know you said you don't want to buy a bunch of tools for it, but if you change your mind, the vacuum pumps and A/C manifolds are actually decent. I used them when I converted my long dead R12 system over and again for a buddy's class B RV. As for refrigerant, the cheapest cans are probably...

    Replacing valve cover gasket tips?

I just did it this week. It sounds like some people use RTV on the cover side, I gather mostly to hold the gasket on for install, but I didn't and found the tabs on the gasket worked fine to hold it on while I installed it. We'll see if I end up with leaks.

    Much difference with steering stabilizer?

What condition is the front end in? Steering stabilizers get thrown on an awful lot to bandaid wornout front end components. I'm not convinced a well maintained TTB is bad, but the decades old ones on these trucks are all due for some service if they haven't been. That said if you are RWD you...
