So what did you do with your truck today?

I’m just hopping on to say how well this site is run, thank you staff members. I clicked on ford-trucks forum to try and read an article on bed mounted spares and good lord it took twenty minutes to clear the adds and I’m pretty sure my phone got a virus. Thank you oil burners!!

    6.9 & 7.3 IDI Commandment Lists - IDI Do’s and Don’ts

Hell yeah. I think I need a new cowl seal lol there is water on top the air intake sometimes after a good rain. In fact, I imagine this old 86 could use a lot of new weather stripping everywhere...

    6.9 & 7.3 IDI Commandment Lists - IDI Do’s and Don’ts

What’s a cowl seal? Also, I searched 38 gallon tank in the forums (that’s what led me here) to see if I can find any information on getting a bed mounted spare tire after installing the 38. Any recommendations?

I love it when these classic ford trucks drive across the damn country, makes me so proud! I had bought mine aight unseen and drove it across with just new tires and batteries. Fluids and filters of course.

    A word about dieselkleen

I’ve been running Renewable lubricants as an injector lubricant for about 3 years and it definitely made a difference. Improved my mpg by about 2 and the truck sounds smooth. It was recommended to me by an old timer before I knew an injector from a spark plug...

    6.9 cranking but no start

When I had my truck in Alaska I used to leave it plugged in for 12 hours or so. I had no idea what I was doing, hurting the truck or anything like that, but the truck ran great every day and even took me across the country to jersey hauling around a ton with no problems. Now I have a timer and I...

Leaks and All That Fun Stuff

is there a specific retailer for Vitons that is preferable? Im sure there is plenty. I bought mine from McMaster-Carr and they were delivered within two days. $10 for shipping, $7 for 50 o rings. I think I listed the part number in one of my above posts. Get some petroleum jelly from the...

Leaks and All That Fun Stuff

@Zion So I did them all even though I only had leaks on two caps. The others were only a few weeks old but I am a firm believer in the superiority of Vitons now. I could actually feel the difference when installing the caps between the two o rings. The vitons were superior. And like Rock said...

Leaks and All That Fun Stuff

If you are still getting leaks from your return lines and didn’t use vitons then I would recommend buying some from McMaster-Carr Part# 9464K24. A few weeks ago I did my return lines and had leaks coming from two caps when all done. After screwing around with those two for days I finally got...

Another 7.3 idi won't start thread... I'm sorry...

Yes, one of the many perks of a classic diesel! I do remember now you mentioning the wiring and what the PO had done. I’ll be looking forward to the post when you’ve got it all done! :peelout

Another 7.3 idi won't start thread... I'm sorry...

Whenever you do find the problem post an update with a summary. I know plenty of people like me will appreciate it and I’ll probably come back to it one day when my truck won’t fire. It sounds like you’ve done a lot already so I’m hoping you’re up and on the road for the New Year!

gonna try my hand at return line repair

Hahah that they do. I remember slinging a couple quite a ways my first time doing the lines. That’s back when I was bruising my knees trying to reach for the lines in the back. I was just about finished with the job when the old man in the shop came by and gave me an orange step that hooks on...

gonna try my hand at return line repair

Shoot, that's probably the reason I have a leak right now. The pick could have nicked at one during the install. I have to admit though, having the snap on pick was really nice getting the old ones off and then ringing the new ones on. Made things go quick. But yes, the hook pick does pose a...

gonna try my hand at return line repair

As others have said it’s pretty straight forward. I am new to diesels and these trucks and have done the return lines twice with the help of this site and other interwebs sites. I’d recommend spending the extra cash and buying Viton O-rings in your return kit. I believe there are a couple guys...

Any new fuel sending unit suppliers?

I’ve been looking at these same units too. I’ve been running one tank for a year now and it’s only a matter of time until this one poops out as well. I haven’t heard anything bad about them, I’ll probably buy a new tank from them as well with tax return and finally get my front tank back up and...
