So what did you do with your truck today?

Yeah. Stationed here in Jersey but home of record is Washington. No state income tax there! @Selahdoor

So what did you do with your truck today?

Not much but drive my son around and enjoy having my truck back on the road!

    86 reg cab weight

My 86 F250 Long bed Regular cab 2wd ran 5,200lbs at the scale two years ago. I had both fuel tanks running on fumes and I even stepped out the truck when I weighed it. The tag on the door says something a bit more than that but I weighed it twice and got the same weight.

Oil on dipstick doesn't look right

Drained the oil today and ran the coolant pressure test on the system. She held steady! I had a loose hose clamp on the upper radiator hose but that was it. I had just installed that so I just needed a couple more turns. Filled it back up with oil and then drove it home. Dipstick looked good...

    Coolant Flush Procedure

@RSchanz I replaced the coolant and flushed the whole system. I had to replace my water pump so I figured I would just service the whole system while I was at it. Put new hoses on as well

    Coolant Flush Procedure

Yes! In hindsight I would have just sent it the first time and it would have opened and I would have been done with my flush way sooner than I was!

    Coolant Flush Procedure

The idea of a petcock on the block sounds pretty good to me. I just did a flush for my first time as well last weekend. I have the 9/16" plug on the block and it came out pretty easy. I didn't bother removing the block heater, that thing can be a pain in the arse getting back in with the starter...

Oil on dipstick doesn't look right

I'm probably going to drain the oil tomorrow after work. Then I'll let it sit for a day or so until I can get back underneath it and pull the plug and see if anything else leaked in there. This all really bummed me out, but the truck has been so reliable for the last 3 years that I have serious...

Oil on dipstick doesn't look right

Thanks gents. I thought I was going to be in the clear and driving my truck again, but looks like I'll be stuck with the wife's minivan for a little bit longer. I can change the oil this week. I imagine once it's changed just drive it around for a little while and then check to make sure the...

What kind of problems are we talking about?

    What oil do you use?

So at work we have jugs of Renewable Lubricants Biosynthetic oil. I just tried it out on my truck a few weeks back. I've heard good things about it from the other guys who do most of the maintenance on the fuel trucks and other diesel rigs. I use this companies injector cleaner as well and have...

Oil on dipstick doesn't look right

So after finally driving the truck back home from installing the new water pump I shut it off and waited a bit before checking the oil. It didn't look right, looked a bit thin, possibly watery? I attached a photo of the dipstick. If this is water on the dipstick, I'm thinking it got in there...

Formally Introducing... Red Fred the Rusty ol Flatbed

You know @nitroguy I'm a pretty new IDI owner and I want to say I went through a similar phase as you. And I agree, there is something uniquely special about driving these trucks. I love mine and wouldn’t trade it for much of anything. Would love to hear an update about your rig, I just read the...

    New water pump/Happy Thanksgiving!

I want to say that I am starting to believe they are. I came across zip ties and bias plies YouTube channel along all my frantic search for help and damn he beats the hell out of slave lake (7.3 idi) and it still turns over for him. I’m a fairly new mechanic and diesel owner so I’m learning as I...

After some hilarious tube rigging she opened up at 215 degrees! Saw the gauge drop all the way down to 180 it was the best thing ever

    New water pump/Happy Thanksgiving!

I have a temp gun and it says 199 below the driver side valve cover but only 150 just below the tstat housing. It would have to hit 195 at the tstat to open right?

    New water pump/Happy Thanksgiving!

So I jacked up the front end and bought this over priced funnel to help burp some of the air. It didn’t seem to want to burp.. if I squeezed the upper rad hose then yeah I got some air out of it. Truck went to 200 degrees too. I just installed a new motorcraft thermostat about 6 months ago and...

    New water pump/Happy Thanksgiving!

I pulled the block drain plug as well, and flushed the whole system. Made sure to make a big mess in the process too haha. About to head over to the shop and give this all a try. I’ll post back with the results!

@chillman88 that reply was exactly what I needed! Thanks partner, I’m going to do exactly that in the morning. I knew 4 gallons wasn’t right either, considering the manual says something like 24 quarts for capacity. If I could buy you all a beer I would

    New water pump/Happy Thanksgiving!

@IDIBRONCO Would you say 200 degrees is pretty standard driving around not towing? I have a stock temp gauge and an aftermarket one with numbers. It read 200 but the stock one read near the cool end of normal.
