Injector line replacement (without removing injector pump)

I find a 5/8” crows foot flare nut wrench to be very handy for this. But also a standard 5/8” flare nut wrench and a regular 5/8 open end wrench. Sometimes it’s faster with a regular wrench, just don’t use it to break it loose, or snug it up. Also, be sure to hold the timing adapter on the #1...

Looks a little rough around the edges to me, just with a fresh coat of paint.

    7.3 IDI injector problems

No, I never checked individual cylinder temps. Thats a good idea though. I did the cylinder contribution test several times and got about close to a 100 rpm drop with each injector. My egt's never got out of line, but I was mostly just idling in the shop. I've probably only got 15 minutes or...

    7.3 IDI injector problems

I think the issue is that pop pressure can affect the timing of the combustion event. So if there are one or two injectors opening 300 psi earlier or later than the rest, the timing for those cylinders will be different. I’m actually working through this right now with my rebuilt engine. I...

    2022 Rally

Well, my truck is a 2wd dually so I won't be hitting trails in it anytime soon, but I could bring some fourwheelers and play. I know several people who go out there a few times a year, but I haven't been since probably 2002. It was quite different then. I think a fair ground could probably...

    2022 Rally

I understand the need for camping, but I was thinking more along the lines of places that allow camping, rather than a commercial campground. For instance a county fairgrounds, or an off road park, or maybe a race track. One place that comes to mind is https://windrockpark.com/ It’s an off road...

Driveshaft and Carrier / Center Bearing issues. Ideas?

Everything that you drew in your sketch. The drive shaft shop puts the whole shaft in a lathe and cuts the solid machined part off of the tube. They then install the new stub, and weld it up.

    Outside wear both front tires.

Finding a good alignment shop is tough. It’s hard to find one that can even get the steering wheel straight on a newer vehicle. Start talking about 30+ year old trucks and it’s even harder. I wouldn’t be surprised if all they did was adjust the toe and send it. I also wouldn’t be surprised if...

NAPA Echlin Ignition vs Motorcraft Glow plug relay comparison - with pics

Since he hasn’t been around for quite a while I’ll share my interpretation. I believe he’s talking about moving the wires that supply voltage to the relay from the under hood fuse block. The black rectangular harness connector is notorious for burning out on those pins in particular. I believe...

Maybe it's a typo. I'd be pretty interested if it were close by and $5500.

    Safari TSR Blues

I run the copper AT3’s on several trucks. I love them. I would have chimed in earlier but I thought you were looking for a more aggressive mud tire. The AT3’s are smooth and quiet but provide pretty good traction for an all terrain. I run a 285/75r18 on my GMC it’s right about 35” tall. I know a...

What all do these get togethers usually involve? Just thinking if there’s another type of venue other than a campground that might work.

    Flickering battery light

Check connections at the alternator, voltage regulator, and the 4 pin connector near the regulator. Also verify a good ground to the case of the alternator and the regulator. I had similar issues with mine at one time, and had to do some repairs to a couple of wires at the 4 pin connector.

    285 75 16 1990 f250 stock?

You would be fine. The problem is that some tire stores won’t mount them if they’re not in spec. That’s usually the chain type places, but just be warned.

    This is a good one

I have a hard time believing that the ether washed the cylinder walls. It would have to have remained in a liquid state as it were pulled through the turbo and the intake, and long enough in the cylinders to wet out the oil on the cylinder walls. I don’t think that’s the case. If the cylinder...

    This is a good one

That truck is beyond rough. I can’t imagine putting as much money into it as they did unless they have another body to swap onto it. I think it’s worth noting that the ether did absolutely nothing when he didn’t have power to the FSS. It was a good demonstration that you have to have at least...

Help! I botched it! Oil overfill, coolant in oil after water pump r&r and oil cooler reseal.

The 4 that need to have RTV actually thread into nuts that are welded on to the back of the front cover. The rest of the bolts pass through the timing cover and thread into blind holes in the block and need no RTV. The reason the length of the bolts is critical, is that if they are too long...

Help! I botched it! Oil overfill, coolant in oil after water pump r&r and oil cooler reseal.

100% that sliced O-ring is your culprit. The gaskets look like they did fine to me. There would have to have been a failure between the oil passage and the coolant passage, but I don’t see any signs of that in your pics. I would do the gaskets the same way is time. FWIW I meant no insult by...

So what did you do with your truck today?

The bend is there to allow clearance for the load (engine) to not hit the arm when it’s at a higher angle. With a straight arm, it would basically be limited to about a 45deg up angle. That bend may allow 60 degrees thus higher overall.

Help! I botched it! Oil overfill, coolant in oil after water pump r&r and oil cooler reseal.

I think it’s highly unlikely that the issue is either the water pump bolts or the oil cooler gaskets. I personally have never seen an issue come from “Painting” a thin layer of RTV on either side of a paper gasket. I have used High Tack in the past, but I prefer to use Ultra Black RTV 99% of...

Cam Upgrade to 7.3idi NA diesel

I took a set of calipers to the two blocks I have a 92 n/a and a 93 factory turbo block stamped with a “T”. No difference what so ever in the thickness of the main bearing webs. The oil feed seems to be the only difference between the two blocks.

    Recirculating Return Line Fuel?

How big is the port in the Aux tank? Is it at the bottom, or at the top with a straw? If the fitting is say 1/2”npt at the bottom of the tank, I’d just put a tee there for the return. Any air would escape to the tank that way. If it’s in the top, I’d be hesitant because I’d be afraid any air...
