    Head units

+1 on the wired remote mic. With the background noise in our trucks, that is a must for hands free calls. I’ve had a couple of head units with remote mics, and they work well. The ones with built in mics are garbage in a truck.

    Easy Fuel Additive system

Sounds like a whole lot of doing for what could be solved with a good funnel. That being said, how about mounting an additive tank in a tool box under the bed, and using an outboard primer bulb. You could tie it in to the vent directly, and you wouldn’t need any valves. Being mounted lower than...

Where is the "low point dimple" on a wheel?

I buy all my tires at discount tire. I’ve been getting Corsa all terrain XL’s from them for years now. They aren’t available in every size, but have pretty good coverage in popular sizes. I’ve been reliably getting 50k miles out of them usually with only a couple of rotations. That’s pretty good...

    6.9/7.3 turbo compatibility

The only “block off” that I know of would be the turbo pedestal on the factory turbo that blocks off the port in the intake manifold where the CDR valve would be on an NA motor.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Looks good without the running boards, but I think it probably needs hub caps.

    Alignment Help.

+1 on this. Jack one tire up at a time and set a solid object like a cinder block, etc. next to it. Spin the tire by hand and look for it being out of round, or possibly a broken belt in it. Shocks may be worth replacing as well.

1994 7.3 turbo IDI exit part to tie exhaust to

This is the last bend. It looks to be 16” from the second bend and 150 or 30 degrees. You can ignore the the welded on v band flange, that’s just for connecting to the rest of my exhaust. This is the link that connects the down pipe to the one of the studs between the crossover pipe and the...

1994 7.3 turbo IDI exit part to tie exhaust to

Ok. So here it is. It’s still wrapped in insulation, so take all of these measurements as estimates. This should be enough to build a suitable replacement. Best I can tell, there are actually 3 bends. The first two closest to the turbo appear to be in the same plane, the last one seems rotated...

1994 7.3 turbo IDI exit part to tie exhaust to

What’s the diameter of the down pipe you have? Maybe you can just cut the flange off and insert it. Mine is still out of the truck, if I get home a little earlier tomorrow I can take some pictures with a tape measure and angle finder. It shouldn’t be too difficult to re-create.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I’ve got the same bumper, minus the brush guard. I’ve got a rough idea on doing some sort of cut out, but a little different than the factory ones. Maybe with some expanded metal or some woven wire mesh. It’s pretty low on the list of projects right now.

is this 1993 F350 7.3 IDI turbo a good deal?

There’s a lot to talk about here. First thing is price. That truck is what I would consider to be the most desirable configuration for an OBS & IDI. It’s got a lot of miles, but I don’t think the seller is far off the mark on price. Next, your requirements are that it can pull your boat, and...

Damage inside differential, what to do next?

Looks like the differential cross pin walked out at some point. PO probably “fixed” it. If it’s not making and abnormal sounds, I’d say run it. Change the gear oil again in 5-10k miles and reassess. In the mean while keep your eyes open for a decent deal on another rear end. That will probably...

    Starting procedure

It’s also worth noting that it’s possible for the cold idle speed solenoid to be working, but be adjusted in such a way that it isn’t doing anything.

    Starting procedure

The glow plug controller is not necessary for either of the cold idle solenoids. It’s a very simple circuit, keyed power is supplied to the 2 prong temperature switch and then to the two solenoids. One advances the timing, and the other increases the idle speed. The idle speed solenoid was never...

    Factory running boards poll

They look better on your truck than this one though.

    Factory running boards poll

I don’t believe those are “factory” running boards. IIRC they were made by Lund. They were super common back in the day on conversion packages. I always preferred a more rugged looking “off road” type step like a nerf bar etc.

    Electric pump conversion question

Here’s a sample wiring diagram. You could add a momentary switch to bypass the pressure switch for priming use.

    Electric pump conversion question

There are also 3 pin oil pressure switches. The center pin closes to ground without oil pressure, and the other two pins are connected when there is pressure.

Saw this at an auction today.

The auction phenomenon can be a blessing in some cases too. There is a young family down the road from me whose house burned down back in January or February. Some ladies from one of the local churches organized a charity auction. The same auction company donated their time and several tents...

6.9 idi sputtering, surging and loss of power

That looks like a copper line. That should be steel. I’m guessing someone replaced the original with soft copper plumbing line. There are a few guys selling replacements that use hose instead of a steel hard line. I would do that, or bend yourself up a new line using steel. The copper will...

    Cavitation or head gasket

I picked up a set of reman heads from allied cylinder heads. My machine shop sourced them for me. The pair with shipping and tax ended up costing me just over $800. https://www.alliedmotorparts.com/products/88-94-international-ford-diesel-7-3l-v8-exc-direct-injection-030c1-cylinder-head

Fuel heater wire to activate electric lift pump relay?

Fuel shut-off solenoid. It’s like so many things, you mention it enough, you just assume everyone else knows what you’re talking about. Maybe someday we need to make a shorthand and acronym glossary.

    Glowshift Gauges?

It’s a Jensen Car910x. I wanted something with a bigger screen where I didn’t have to cut up the dash for a double Din. I also wanted SiriusXM and a external microphone for hands free phone calls. I’m pretty happy with it.

It’s an $8 ABS project box I got off Amazon.
