    Scared to buy "reman" ZF5

No clue, but reman units are completely hit and miss if you ask me. I'd rather have a trusted local place rebuild one VS buying a reman. If you do a reman I'd make sure I got a decent warranty and would have installed in a timely manner so I had most of the warranty to use.

Local tire shop does the hole repair deals also. So i think they are legit. Problem is by the time you repair 8 holes might be better off to just buy the new rim.

Barn Find! - Liquid Cooled ATS Turbo

That's a very interesting turbo system. Never seen the ATS turbo intake like that. It reminds me of a hypermax, but clearly is ATS with the big ATS cast into it. Very cool in deed. US gear also that's awesome. I have a US gear and love it.

    P9106 Getting AC...part list?

TO puncture the can you need a can tap. They make ones that screw on the can and connect to the Yellow hose. They also make ones that wrap around the can and basically stab the side of it. I've always used the screw on the can type. Now I pull from a 30lb keg of freon and it has a threaded...

    Joinng the Cool Kids Saturday!

Nice looking truck! Hope you have a good trip. That shit knob is for a NP205 out of a 70's truck. It's a big cast iron transfercase. So if you look at the transfercase and it appears to be aluminum/magnesium it's not the 205 and has a different shift pattern. It's almost exactly reverse of...

89 CC build thread Frame off resto!! - Bad Idea

Used the truck to go camping this last weekend. Pulled our 8' x 30' work and play camper around 100 miles each way. Truck did good. Trailer is bumper pull, but similar height to a 5th wheel so it catches a lot of air. Trailer also weighs around 8K so it's plenty heavy. We ran 60-65 in 4th or...

    P9106 Getting AC...part list?

Procedure sounds good to me. Connect gages, open valves, pull vacuum, make sure it holds vacuum, turn off gages, connect can of refridgerant, open low side to fill. You can jumper the compressor to run if you want. I typically don't. I just fill refrigerant until it starts cycling on it's...

    Project Big Red

Lazer - Looking great as always. What you use to polish that intake? Right angle and a bunch of different size sanding discs? One word of caution. Watch hanging the engine using the adapter plate on an engine stand. Local guy had his adapter plate brake across the top and dropped his engine...

    P9106 Getting AC...part list?

I get 40 degree air from my R-12 system running R134. My system is 100% new aftermarket parts. I do have a remanufactured compressor on it. This is in my 89 ford. Only original part was the pressure switch on the drier. I did adjust the cycling point lower for R134, but that was years ago no...

10.25 SRW rear axle swap. Input appreciated.

99-2004 I thought have similar backset to our trucks. 2005-up have a lot of back set I believe.

10.25 SRW rear axle swap. Input appreciated.

So the new axle would mount the wheels out wider? Seems like a winner to me. The factory tucks the rear wheels under there pretty good. A good set of adapters will cost you a couple bucks. And put the wheels out even further. Not sure I'd want the added width from the adapters or even want...

Bubbles in coolant reservoir, blown head gasket? Cavitation? Something else?

I'll add another vote for going through your engine. Last rebuilt I did was crap. (gas engine) Ended up getting a replacement, but after we had to fight for warranty because we self installed VS a shop. Also cost us about $600 at the shop in labor that wasn't covered. Engine had a cracked...

It's weird to me you had a semi floating rear in your 1-ton. Maybe you said, but I'd assume it's swapped. Nice work getting that axle home! Nothing like breakage forcing an upgrade before a planned trip. -cuss

Starter solenoid on Starter anyone replace?

Hey I've got a starter that spins great, but doesn't work. It will click. It's not the fender solenoid, because the backup starter works flawless. Does anyone change just the solenoid on the starter? It appears to be the SS331 solenoid. Solenoids like 38bucks. New starter is like $110. so...

    guide coats for the rookie

I know I'm late to the party here. But I'll put in my .02 which is probably worth .00 being late. I started buying the SEM guild coat in a spray can. I'd used generic spray bombs in a contrasting color for years. But I've had a couple that seemed to stay tacky a long time and gummed up sand...
