RLDSL uses a 5000 series Brownie box and Gary uses a GV. To the best of my knowledge both report more gains in useability than losses due to extra driveline components being added. These are not triple countershaft units like some of the crash boxes that big rigs use, the parasitic loss is minimal.
I believe its more than just a ratio and how many rpm's you are turning at a certain mph. The higher the axle ratio, the more work your engine will have to do in each gear it pulls. Diesels in general have a narrow efficiency range, that's why over the road tractors have so many gears, the...
I had to pick up my sister's '08 Wrangler and drop it off to our tranny guy for a new clutch. 9,000lbs between the Jeep and the trailer, the truck didn't even break a sweat. When people complain about their IDI not towing well I often wonder what their expectations are or what is wrong with...
The Goose crew made it home without incident. Thank you to everyone that made the rally, I made some new friends and got to know some others much better. I hope those of you that were unable to attend enjoyed the thread here and on FB. I had a great time and am not enjoying "the back to reality"...
It will be a sacrifice, highway drive vs. towing grunt. I am contemplating 315-75-16's with either 4;56 or 4;88's and a Gear Vendors. I pretty much do not think 4:10's and 35's go together well for towing heavy. These engines were designed and built to run on the governor, not to be lugged...
The Moose fleet has hit the highway, Subway is due to check out today, Danielle left late last night, things are winding down. It will be me and the Fowlers for one more night.

The visit to the Aviation Museum was resceduled for yesterday. This gave us a nice outing on a rainy Friday morning, much better than just seeking shelter at camp all day. There were planes, Jeeps, boats and many other artifacts of historical significance. Planes, helicopters and the like were...
In addition to that, Corey, Brad, and the Fowlers showed up, Dainelle came BACK for a few more days and 3 or 4 day visitors showed for the events today. The hustle and bustle of the IDI rally is very apparant. The rather long 9 day duration provided a large window of opportunity for people to...
The IDI camper made a visit and is now headed towards New Hampshire on its way back to Canada. It was a great surprise to see John and Diane at the rally. Safe travels on your way back north. Subway is due in this evening. Hope to see Jared and Jill at the campfire tonight.

Camp is set up, our first rallygoers have arrived. Hint: he has a VERY cool black crew cab dually with a custom flat bed and I pack box that is grafted into the rear of the cab. A couple of kids are in the pool, idigal is running some errands,a pallet of fire wood is prepped for the evening...
I welcomed our first rallygoer at the campground today. The truck got a new 7 pin socket and an A, B, C type fire extinguisher was mounted on the floor right inside the rear left door. Not a huge amount of work but something to pass a small amount of time.
