    1984 F350 - No idea what i'm doing

I would change the oil & filter if oil is black & thick. Use a Motorcraft oil filter & Delo oil. Will not be expensive for a start.

I want to finally get Gear Vendors unit, have questions though.

I would leave as is with the 3.55 gears if you are not towing much. Remember, the horses here are not ponies but Clydesdales.

6.9/ 7.3 Motorcraft glow plug life expectancy?

Starter speeds get slower as they age and we get used to engine just starting. The newer Denso type starters, mfr up to you, spin the engine really fast to start quickly. Don't know if this is your problem or not. I changed from the old Mitsubishi starter and was amazed at the fast start...

Brand new to the fourm...Have a question

I have had no need for the anti-gel formula. The EDT is only a couple of ounces per tank, Extreme is every now & then. I use Extreme in -0 temps WHEN we have them which is rare. Anti-gel, for me, is not a need. Not sure how cold your area gets.

Brand new to the fourm...Have a question

https://www.hotshotsecret.com/diesel-extreme/ https://www.hotshotsecret.com/everyday-diesel-treatment/ No problem with any pumps, electric or manual. Electric just makes it so much easier to trouble shoot air intrusion problems. Turn power on, instant fuel pressure before starting or checking...

    Yet another cold start problem..

Fortunately my 86 had the upgraded GPR & I've never had a problem with it. My other 85 & 86 had the older controllers that were problematic to me. I changed those to push button systems which helped greatly. Best improvement was the DB Electric Denso type starter (or whatever brand you want to...

What can you figure out about your truck, with the VIN

This is for the 85+ but not sure how far ahead it can be applied: http://www.thedieselfiles.com/Ford/1985/VIN%20Codes.pdf

Brand new to the fourm...Have a question

You will love the Hot Shot products. I run the EDT & the Hotshot Secret. If you do not run an electric fuel pump, put that on your list. Much easier to run down air intrusion problems also.

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Pull the oil pan & reseal if not already done. No gaskets, just good silicone gasket sealer.

Maybe you can find a 2 speed rear axle to get you there. Should be plenty out there.

    Turning over 6.9 by hand

Yeah, mine runs good too but still knocks lightly. Hydrolock on 1 cylinder. Have the parts, not the time right now.

A cautionary tale about the use or rather mis-use of ether to start a IDI motor.

Had it been raining hard before this happened? Looks like some broken glowplug damages over time on top of the piston. I have a rod that matches that one from hydrolock after rainstorm. Blown head gasket will send coolant to oil passage.

    PSD vs IDI fuel economy

It will cost you more $$ than the extra mileage is worth + extra unwanted heat in the cylinders.

    Glowplug removal

The 'nut' and threads are made together from one piece of metal. Sounds like glowplug may be swollen. Can you read the name on them like BERU, BOSCH or Autolite. If you have the others out, try this: Put a large folded towel over the 1 stuck glow plug, close the hood & crank the engine over...

    Glowplug removal

I've never seen one that spins like you say. Are you using a 3/8 or 10mm 6 point deep socket? I use 1/4" drive myself & 3/8 socket is tighter.
