    drips from the unknown

Looks to be VC gasket to me. Old one looks kinda squeezed with that tab drooped down.

    Proper timing equipment?

I bought one of these way back when they were cheap. Seller was good for me, I bought quite a few tools from them. May want to contact them and ask for complete pictures to see what is included. Doesn't take much for a 6.9 https://www.ebay.com/p/20007203812?iid=383708214490

Why can't I adjust my timing while my engine is running?

Lot of torque at those gears.

    Quick question...

I think I did way back, just couldn't go back in the same way w/o bumping gaskets. I didn't need picker back then, more braun than brains at the time. Never again.

Why can't I adjust my timing while my engine is running?

Pump has been replaced no doubt. Mine has different marks because I replaced a couple of pumps but I know which marks are correct.

    Leak down test

While the heads are off, is easier to reseal the oil cooler also in the truck.

I'm cheap & that is excellent condition for '86. Good type AC compressor on it also. $3800 not a bad price at all

    Sudden Unexplained No-Start

How does the wiring harness look at the connection plug over passenger valve cover since it is an '86 Also check for burnt wires behind fuse panel forward of E-brake pedal

One more hard start after sitting, but this one's different

Also, change the olives on the hard lines. Probably dry-rotted.

    Dang Squeaky Noise

ANY new idlers I replace now, I pull a bearing cover seal and pack with anti-friction grease or equivalent and replace seal. Most have minimal grease in them from all the manufacturers it seems. Has made a difference for me.

    Dang Squeaky Noise

Get some belt dressing, or something similar, and put on belt back. If squeak stops, it is belt. If not, pull belt and slowly turn each idler pulley by hand. Should be no resistance turning the pulley. Bad VP would have been masking the noise earlier.

    Crew hauler build

Don't forget to freshen the oil cooler before the install. :Thumbs Up

    the tick

    Of course not :kick:
  22. R

    the tick

Use a 30" piece of hose & listen to exhaust manifolds (leak) and valve covers like a stethoscope for the tick.

    Sudden Unexplained No-Start

You could have a broken cam but I would think this would be rare. 6.0s break them quite a bit but that is a different animal.

    Sudden Unexplained No-Start

Do you still have the water separator on the truck? If so, have you pulled the ring lately?

    Issues with starting

Only other thing I would think is the starter not spinning fast enough. I changed to a DB Electrical Denso type/copy and spins much faster. My old 6.9 ''bump' starts especially when warm. Got away from the Mitsubishi style. I keep an extra on hand since 2 ship for same UPS charge. I think...
