    6.9 Head Work

Be very careful who you trust your IDI heads to. Most places I've tried in the past have treated these like SBC heads. You want a shop that knows diesel heads, and has experience with IDI heads. Not easy to find to be honest. I had to take my 6.9 heads to Haas Machine in Louisville, KY to...

    Permatex Copper Spray.

I've used the copper RTV on a bunch of sealing surfaces on my IDI's (oil pan, oil cooler gaskets, and what not), but never tried the spray. Never used anything on the head gaskets except hylomar. Problem is, I've never found hylomar anywhere locally. I've always had to order it online. If...

    Can't get injection pump out

Is the pump stuck to the drive gear cover? Or, are you having a hard time wiggling it out and off the top of the engine? Heath

    2017 Oilburners Rally

Yeah. Ordered it 2/6/17 (I think). F450 Lariat. Supposed to take roughly 12 weeks to build and deliver. I wanted to just pick it up at assembly plant, but apparently, that's a no no. LOL Heath.

    2017 Oilburners Rally

All this talk about riding has me thinking..... Might need to borrow Dad's Harley for the week and ride with you guys. Guess I could haul it behind the IDI. Wouldn't work in bed of F450. The camper would kind of get in the way. LOL Heath

    2017 Oilburners Rally

Good to hear from you BJ. It's been a while buddy. Last time I saw ya was at the 2009 rally here in Bowling Green. Hope you can make another rally. It'd be great to see you and catch up on what's new. Don't worry about the PSD, I have a funny feeling someone will be bringing a '17 to the...

Which is better to build and why?

Not really gaining power with the 7.3 over 6.9. I agree with what has been posted above. Open the 7.3 and see what shape it is in. Either way, make sure the heads on either IDI are in good shape (cracks, warps, guides, valves, seats, rockers,...). Most machine shops I've dealt with treat...

    Return line rail

I've changed the return lines on my F250 once in the last 10 years and that was only because I swapped in a new IP and injectors. Wouldn't make since for me (regardless of who sold them). In my experience, not necessary. Heath

    Oil cooler R&R question.

Make sure you have the surfaces of the tube and headers free of crude/corrosion before you try and put them together. I agree with the engine assembly lube on the new O-rings and on the headers. You want the header to slide/slip onto the tube without needing to beat on it or need a...

Return line at fuel filter delete?

I've deleted the fuel return to the filter on my F250. Have keep it on my F350. Not noticed a single change with anything what so ever. No benefit that I've seen. No loss that I've seen either. It's a wash in my experience. I wouldn't push fuel through the mechanical pump with an...

    Stolen IDI

Man John, I'm sorry to hear that buddy. Nothing worse than a man who is too lazy or worthless to earn for themselves, but rather steals from a man who works hard for what he has. I'm telling you, nothing worse. Hope they get caught and are repeatedly sodomized in prison! Most importantly, I...

Your feedback on this Vendor/ Diesel shop !

Not banned for product issues. This happened before he started selling stuff. It was because he was acting like a brat here. Cursing at folks, insults, just poor behavior all around. Also making fake accounts and trolling the site. It was ugly. I personally don't care what products he...

Your feedback on this Vendor/ Diesel shop !

X 2!!!! Mel is a good guy and I've been using his pumps/injectors for >10years. I just put a fresh Bull Moose and Moose injectors on my F250. Still very impressed with his work. Seems these parts get better with time. Wouldn't put anyone else's pump on my IDI. Anderson (R&D) has been...

Fuel pressure....but running out of fuel!

Fuel pressure gauge is fine where you had it. I have the senders for my in cab fuel pressure gauges on both my IDI's in the location you chose. Why that location? It is where the factory sender is for the fuel filter light. It is the same pressure in the supply line for the IP. In my...

    86 Turbo IDI Build

It was a '95 F-Superduty (F450) that had a PSD. The bed is from a '97. The IDI radiator dropped right into the PSD front clip like it was made for it. It doesn't look that nice 11 years (and winters) later. LOL I drive that truck everyday. Just put my second Moose pump and Moose...

Fuel pressure....but running out of fuel!

If you're reading fuel pressure after the filter (pressure the IP is seeing), then fuel pressure/supply isn't the problem. Heath

    86 Turbo IDI Build

Did the same on my '86 F250 about 11 years ago. Different cowl and different mount (vertical vs horizontal) on the fenders to bottom of the cab. But otherwise, it all bolts on. Heath
