Yep! The bimetallic spring in the 6.9L controller is notorious for sticking to the electric contact point, resulting in the plugs staying on long past their failure point.
I think a 4BT would fit perfectly in that engine compartment ;Poke -Drool ;burnout
Ooh, even better...a 4-71! That would be closer to period-correct :bail :smoke:
I didn't realize two valves counted as "all this valving" -Lame
As to why I put them there...I was told at the time that it was a good idea to have shutoff valves on both sides of the filter to minimize coolant loss when changing filters. Filter location was not factored into that discussion...
It doesn't matter how the thermostat's clocked, as long as it's oriented correctly relative to coolant flow. The arrow's only to indicate which direction the thermostat should be pointing relative to coolant flow.
My apologies for not addressing that earlier; I didn't realize what you were...
I just went out and looked...based on the markings, it looks like the fittings on the filter head are 3/8"; so are the ball valves and everything between the filter head and the T-fitting. The T-fitting has the one 3/8" port and the other two ports (the two that lead to the hose nipples) are...
Take a look at this diagram:
Coolant flows up from the block, through the thermostat housing, through the upper hose, and into the radiator.
As you're looking at it, the arrow should point away from the engine block and towards the thermostat housing/upper hose nipple assembly.
Unless you put a hotter thermostat in, the stock thermostat opens at 192 degrees. My 6.9L sits between 190 and 195 unless she's being worked hard or driving at low speed with the A/C on (i.e. stuck in traffic -cuss ). I've never seen the water temp go above 215 or so; usually at 210, the...
Is the donor truck also a slushbox? IIRC the transmission dipstick is different and needs to be swapped...I'm not sure about the Banks setup, but I know that ATS requires it.
I remember getting into an argument a couple of years back with someone on here who thought that coolant filters were a waste of time and money. IMHO here's a very good argument refuting that...wow!
That's one advantage (although it's a moot point if the replaceable ends aren't readily available off the shelf as Brian implied). The other advantage is a Delrin bushing integrated into the drag link (similar to the one described here...
That's a bit scary in and of itself...I had been under the impression that the tie rod ends are OEM equipment for a 1 ton GM truck (although I don't know what model year range), so I was hoping you could go into an auto parts store and say that you need TRE's for a 19XX GM K3500 and they'd get...
That's a bit scary...I guess I should ask. Since you've seen it firsthand, if you could do it over again and had a choice between the Carrick Customs stuff and the mblaney Delrin spacer, which direction would you go?
I've been planning to buy the Carrick Customs setup, but after that report...
For what it's worth, I have a FB account and tried to open the link and it didn't work for me; got the same "The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed" message.
Maybe the privacy settings are set up so that only friends/people invited are able to see the link?
Do you by chance have any links? I'd love to get my hands on a new plastic engine wiring harness connector for a brick-nose...
BTW, looks very good so far! ;Sweet
Gary raises a good point...it's also worth noting that the timing gear cover can warp a bit. I replaced my timing gear cover when I redid my head gaskets in '04 because the timing probe holder had broken off my old cover. The new one sealed to the block well enough, but I had an absolute bear of...
The BFH approach has a cathartic effect that shouldn't be ignored, but I like the "Peace Through Superior Firepower" approach offered by the mini-gun and the RPG :rotflmao
Then there's Billy-Bob's approach...this was actually filmed in the Antelope Valley north of L.A.; you can see the...
