    ZF5 reverse - repair time!

I had the same issue as pictured above on 460 ZF5 I swapped into the 6.9 crew cab. Had to replace the 5/R synchro and slider. No issues since. Heath

    SMF kits

Valeo is a quality clutch. No experience with Perfection or AMS. You will get more rollover noise with the SMF, but I've never read/seen where SMF's are a root cause for trans failure. If you're gonna haul with the truck, I'd worry about slipping if the clutch quality isn't there. What...

    Increased Oil Consumption

Large amount of oil in the valley pan makes me wonder if the oil return for the turbo or if it's center section is leaking. There are only so many things that will leak significant volume in the valley pan. Heath

A cautionary tale about the use or rather mis-use of ether to start a IDI motor.

Dang man! That was a mess. Glad its all back together and running well. Thanks for the pictures. Wondering if the pinhole leaked coolant into the cylinder to cause the bend rod? Don't recall seeing a 6.9 with pinholes or cracked cylinders before yours. Heath

    best rpm to shift zf5?

ZF5 or T19 - I usually shift around 2000-2500 depending on the situation. Merging into traffic... rev's will be higher. Same when hauling.... usually kiss 3000+ when pulling the camper. Heath

    SMF kits

Have never used a kit from RockAuto. Who makes those kits? I have clutches from South Bend Clutch on both my IDI's. I used their SMF 13 inch kit on the 6.9 crew cab when I did the 460 ZF5 swap. It's worked well. So you aren't planning on keeping the IDI in the truck for long? How much do...

    2020 Oilburners Rally Location Voting

Attendee's coming and going isn't new. The difference is new attendees aren't coming. We get lots of new members here every year. They likely have no clue the rally even exists, much less where to find info on it. I'm not personally OK with it dying off. We'll have to agree to disagree on...

    2020 Oilburners Rally Location Voting

Scott, I'm afraid this post is not getting much traffic here. Only 9 votes in a week. I don't think the move to events section is a good thing for the rally threads and it's hurting participation. If just nine people are interested in going, the rally will die off soon. Please consider...

    Spring gathering

Mike that campground looks awesome! Still looking at my schedule to see if we can make it. I really hope we can. Man, I think that place would be great for a full on OB summer rally! Not that I'm volunteering you or anything.... LOL:angel: Heath

    Camshaft possibilities?

I have Russ' cam in my 6.9. Certainly help it become a usable haul rig. Unless you don't plan on using your truck as a truck.... meaning if its just a toy/hot rod......... then for me there is only one choice.... typ4's torque cam. It simply makes your IDI truck better at being a truck. My...

    Oilburners 2019 Gatlinburg Rally

There were a few mentions of Ohio and West Virginia as well. Nothing solid, but thinking out loud kind of things. It was said several times that we could return to this campground again if nothing else surfaces. We could spend three weeks there and still have plenty of things to do in the...

    Oilburners 2019 Gatlinburg Rally

Missy, Myself, Heidi, and Winston had a great time. We enjoyed seeing everyone again. Got to meet a few new faces, but didn't get a lot of time to hang out around the campfire with them. Hopefully the test of the waters so to speak was good and we'll see them every summer. Couldn't be...

Had our potluck dinner today. Jared has a shirt for Russ (typ4) that we all have signed. It is with towcat’s favorite drink combo. Just a little “miss you buddy” for Calvin. Heath

    Oilburners 2019 Gatlinburg Rally

Been meaning to post this for a while, but just keep forgetting to.... Bring an inner tube or float of some kind. The river flows around the campground and floating from one end to the other is a great way to cool off and enjoy the water. Well, if the weather cooperates. Heath

Our site is full on the 5th, so we'll be coming in on the 6th as originally scheduled. I'm getting excited! Going to be a great week with some great folks. Still don't have a camper........ it "should" be ready on Friday though. Got to get it loaded and set up this weekend. Not gonna have...
