    Got me some tire chains

I thought the chains instead of “max tracks” move was my signature move! Didn’t realize others knew about I thought I was creative. I have already done that twice this week it’s a lifesaver.

    Trade trucks?

I also support the 300 cid, although if you want it to sit awhile you can’t beat an idi. Mine sat for over 10 years in the ground and fired. If you switch to gas you will likely find you have to “tweak” it after it sits every time. But a happy wife is very important to. On the diesel side...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I almost filled up my truck bed! (Don’t worry it did not go on the road like that only on private property).

    Got me some tire chains

I am on the fence about the V bars, they give excellent grip but they tear up everything I have them on my truck chains and they work extremely well. With no 4wd currently though they are mostly just my “oops I’m stuck get out of jail free card” you just lay them out in front of the tires and...

    7.3 idi knock

If it’s important it will get worse :)

    Classic looking brush guard

No usually it’s the vehicle that has it, the thin cheesy ones spread the damage out across a wider area and destroy more body panels as they bend too easy.

    Classic looking brush guard

We call these type “damage multipliers” because generally speaking they make any kind of damage worse but they look nice. I really wish I could go for the classic look but I generally like some protection as well.

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

According to my local Ford dealer it’s a ZD9 but they sell them in pairs hence the ZD”2”9 and they look like the exact same product.

Merry Christmas as well and a happy new year

Merry Christmas! Thanks for all the help and encouragement from everyone on here. Here’s to another year of diesel operation and functionality!

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

I have the factory controller in manual mode, I have CDDs controller but I haven’t set it up yet. If I cycle 3 times for 10 seconds she usually lights right off between 0-32 no problem. That’s 8 new motorcraft ZD29s

Wow thanks for sharing! Appreciate the info.

Here is my unplugged -7 F cold start.

    6.9 7.3 oil consumption?

It is my personal theory that could be totally wrong that the IDI uses the head design to achieve complete fuel burn whereas the DI uses the turbo to achieve complete fuel burn.

Crank no start with ignition key, with ignition key on and jumping the starter relay truck starts

A lot of rigs cut accessory power when cranking, I accidentally used a accessory wire to run a solonoid that was powering my HEI once and my 350 would start as soon as I stopped cranking, maybe your IP wires are somehow on an accessory circuit?

Crank no start with ignition key, with ignition key on and jumping the starter relay truck starts

I don’t label any of my push buttons or switches, I call it a security feature.

Crank no start with ignition key, with ignition key on and jumping the starter relay truck starts

So the truck only starts with key on fender solonoid jump? But the key to “crank” will turn it over but it can’t start? When you are cranking it over with the key does it crank slower or intermittently relative to when you crank it from the fender?

So what did you do with your truck today?

I fired off at -7 farenheight with no block heat, battery blankets, tender, nothing and we have about 3 feet of snow where I work. Also I have no power outlet access I’m not just torturing mechanical parts unnecessarily.

    6.9 7.3 oil consumption?

Is this unimaginable for you? I imagine it would be with your “special” fuel. That could play into it quite a bit

So what did you do with your truck today?

Yeah they have been having trouble keeping winter power service in stock locally.

    New R&D injectors

I called Justin once and he answered immediately and helped me with the parts I was working on, he ships quickly, and delivers a good product so as long as he’s busy doing IDI things more power to him! I just hope when I do need injectors he’s got them but we’ll see what happens!

    One rear brake locks up

This is EXACT your are on the money. However older ones pose a risk of “delaminating” which is very not cool so if they are old it’s worth replacing almost every brake part on these trucks when you get them.

    Oil additive for injector lubrication?

Either rotella or delo and everything will be fantastic.

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

Oh yes, it had been sitting so I don’t really have fuel drain back either. And depending on where you looked it was as low as 7 degrees. Thanks! The cranking speed is simply incredible it was extremely slow when I got it so I put a bunch of work into getting it to where it is, two 850 CCA...

    96 First Powerstroke

Well it was powerstroke day here at captains_garage so I swapped the two 750 AGMs for two 850 lead acids and she cranks like it’s the end of time. One of the AGMs had 80 CCA and the other 700 CCA. I have a myriad of fuel issues to sort out the first was the fuel pressure sensor leaking so I...
