Currently my choices for a daily at the moment are a 1987 F250 6.9 4x4 or the 1997 F250 7.3 OBS PSD 4x4.
Both are high mileage worked hard trucks and I love them both. The 6.9 is likely my favorite but it started off in the ground and the last owner took it skydiving twice. I use them both...
It’s my in laws and I can use it only on weekends so last weekend was a 25+ work hour marathon to get it done. It is very nice and I am very thankful for getting to use it but sometimes I get in way over my head on weekend projects.
I am not planning to spend money to buy a new radiator for the ac brick nose and I will stick with what I have. That would be nice but that’s a lot of bucks.
Does the core support on the right look like a bull or brick nose? The one on the left is what came out and the one on the right is what I got to replace it but it’s much different.
I always get a little confused by the whole priming the fuel system thing, I can change my filter, change my lines, change my manual lift pump, and still fire off in a few cranks with fuel only in the tanks and maybe a little hanging around inside the IP. What’s the need for it? Maybe I have...
So for $200 I was expecting a pretty nice core support but that was not exactly the case, it’s quite cancered out below the battery trays so it will be a fabrication operation.
I think I will likely use normal green coolant and Napa Kool nitrate based sca as that’s what I am running in my other truck and I’m happy with it plus I already have the stuff.
I think the main challenge is as far as I know no one has bought two brand new IDIs and ran one on WMO and one in diesel through the exact same use cases and seen how they compared. Most of us are running high/unknown mileage components until they pop and nobody really knows anything for sure...
I finally actually drove the thing to work without any major huge issues! Although I have discovered that the “coolant” that’s in the thing is quite nasty.
It has been wrecked at some point, not a major deal but I can tell the last owner did weird things to put it back together and the whole core support is bent and it messes up the hood alignment and the headlight mounts so a new part is on order.
Should I reinforce the new one before putting it in?
What you need is a system that lets you switch to e pump when the psi on your manual gets low. Gets you home with redundancy. Every system will be unreliable what you need is redundancy, manuals fail and electrics fail.
When I got the truck the radiator core support was sketchily welded back together by a previous owner, well it finally let go yesterday. I quickly glued it back together so I could get home from work yesterday without my radiator hitting my fan but I ordered a new one from wrecking yard. The...
Sometimes I get thrown out of second gear and the 4 speed does tend to make creative noises. Is there a reputable source for entire new transmission or is a rebuild myself in the future? I am mostly looking to price things out as I know it’s a repair I need to be saving for.
It actually starts now! The new glow plugs were the last thing I needed to make it start without extreme effort. Now it fired right off. Now I just need a rack I like, 4wd, and a toolbox
I replaced the glow plugs, valve cover gaskets with doorman ones, and one of the truck side wiring plugs. It only had 2 functional glow plugs. Now it is closer to being a functional vehicle.
