Bolt down system for truck canopy

Leak tested it today. No water coming through at the bed rails but some of the windows will leak, if enough water overwhelms the tiny drain holes in the extruded window frames. I might be able to seal them up better but I'm pretty sure normal rain should be no problem as is. Rainy season is...

Bolt down system for truck canopy

Here's the canopy base plate getting prepped and drilled to fit. I'll get some more photos later to show the end result.

Bolt down system for truck canopy

Here's what they look like installed. The only bad news here is I don't think this will work on trucks later than 1986, since the latching system was changed.

Bolt down system for truck canopy

It took a long time to find the exact canopy I wanted. Cab height, neutral white color, and aluminum base plate, instead of wood-core fiberglass. The roof is also cored with something that makes it stiff enough for me to walk on it. Not bad. Unfortunately, that aluminum base plate proved flimsy...

Correct bilstein shock part # for 1986 F350 4X4 front.

Hmm. That's the same part number I used on mine and the only reason they didn't work is I found them too harsh. Although, I was using hardware and front suspension parts from a 1995 donor truck.

    Eccentric issues.

Mine looked the same when I replaced it. I was actually relieved, because it seems to explain where the metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug are coming from.

1986 F250 C6 Torque Converter Drain Plug Location

For what it's worth, when I rebuild my E4OD a couple years ago, the new billet torque converter didn't come with a drain plug. When I called the shop, he told me the billet front covers don't come predrilled with a drain plug anymore. Most modern fluid changes are done using the cooler lines to...

    Anyone recognize this turbo setup?

Honestly, the only thing I might be interested in is the 6.9 engine. I'm looking for core to keep as a spare.

    Anyone recognize this turbo setup?

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/971450567242611/ I'm thinking it was custom build but hard to tell.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I fabricated a bug screen insert for the rear window of my truck. The bottom edge uses oversize washers to lock it in place, but I'll probably have to add some tabs to make it easier to unlatch. The plan is to do some camping, if I can ever get some time off this summer. I gave it a "test run"...

Well, The Ford Aerostar did come with cupholders:

    Cup holders

This discussion suddenly has me thinking about Wrath of Khan. It makes me imagine being chased by a menacing K-car named, "Reliant". Good movie, but I still get a chuckle out of the subliminal advertising for a Chrysler K-car in a Star Trek move. Kelsey Grammer would later prove the durability...

    Cup holders

I thought maybe a T-bird or Crown-vic but none of the image searches matched your photo, so I had to ask. Dodge or no dodge, they look like they could have been an option. The only way I knew for sure, was the adjustable headrests. None of our trucks ever came with them. Oh, and I used to have...

Those seats don't look stock. What did those seats come out of? Very nice.

"Tank" my 91 Crew Cab Dually

Kopr shield is nice stuff. Expensive, but nice. We used it at our industrial site for crimping safety grounds on electrical panels and junction boxes. Aside from corrosion protection, I suspect it also helps the copper strands "flow" better during the crimping process by adding some lubrication...

    E4OD won't move from stop in D

Brittle valve body gasket can be an indicator that the transmission has overheated at some point.

    An A/C question

The single most expensive part on your A/C system is the compressor. Everything else is just cheap insurance to make sure the new compressor doesn't eat dirt from the old compressor. I replaced everything in mine several years ago and it still blows cold. Only complaint is lackluster performance...

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

Just checked the max boost again today and seems to be maxing at 13 PSI. It was a hot summer day today, so that probably didn't help. I'm probably also due for a filter servicing after all the dusty roads I've been exploring over the last few months. When I first put everything together, I was...

    I'M BACK!!!! Rehabilitation of Benny

So it looks like the R&D is capable of easily reaching 20 PSI. What was the smoke like? Just curious, because I haven't been following the aftermarket turbo kits too closely for the last couple years. Congrats on the new truck BTW.

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

I think I did use some silver anti-seize but can't remember. I still have the CAD file so it wouldn't take much to make more. The only thing I might do differently is thicken the female side of the coupling to reduce the risk of weld distortion. Someone can always grind it down after it's...

ATS 093 leaky slip joint repair

So far so good. I haven't tried to max out my 15 PSI gauge for a while but I'm confident it would still do it. The only real problem so far is that the slip coupling galled on my when I installed the setup, so I'm not sure I'd be able to separate them now.

    Knocking engine

The engines are interference, but the valve points down directly at the piston (perpendicular), not at an angle like some other interference engines. This means that if the valve was hit by the piston, there is a chance it may not have bent the valve and simply been slammed straight up against...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I'm pretty sure the title alone will be enough to go "viral". Don't forget about us plebs when you're chillin' at your Florida estate a few years from now.

I know I'm not the only one wondering this, but...Why does the Caddilac have a winch? Cool car, btw.

    C6 to E4OD ?

Converting to an E4OD will be a big enough job as is. Hold off until you get a proper 4wd diesel transmission for your project. If the gas E4OD is dirt cheap ($50-100), then it might come in handy since some of the internal hard parts will interchange with the HD diesel unit. But you still have...
