    Worth fixing.

Cost to own an IDI is going up, but it's still the cheapest mass produced workhorse diesel you can get, relative to the overall displacement of the engine. I've had my truck for over 15 years now and have driven the newer ones. I still like mine, even though maintenance is non-stop. Besides...

    Cheap way to Intercool?

My first-hand experience with intercooling is limited to a diesel ranger but I agree with this. The difference in power was noticeable, with no additional fuel needed. Lag? I couldn't tell if there was any more after all the added piping. Some day when I get my 6.9 intercooled I'll know for sure.

I Bought These Wire Connectors for Engine Harness

There's the inline fuel heater. Which apparently still works on my truck because that's what ended up smoking the fusible link. EDIT: Although, I think 87 and up has the heater integrated into the fuel filter head...not sure if it's powered through the connector, or by some other means.

I Bought These Wire Connectors for Engine Harness

Shows $21. Did I miss something? I just soldered all the wires for my engine harness connector, but that one does look nice. I might have to revisit the repair later on.

2nd blown oil filter gasket and coolant mixing with oil? Help with isolating the causes?

Wish I found this thread sooner. I went through a similar struggle a couple years ago. In my case, oil was getting into the coolant, so not exactly the same thing. Cleanliness of the oil cooler header bores proved critical in my case. See photos in this thread for more...

New to me f350 what to do

I see an open fuel hose there. Was it like this when you found it, or is this just you working on it? Either way, it needs to be connected either to the separator (which is likely leaking by now), or simply bypass the separator entirely and upgrade to a newer style as others have said.

New to me f350 what to do

Battery connections will get hot if they are loose. Don't forget to check the engine block grounds as well. There will be one on each front, bottom corner of the engine block.

    OD worth the $ ?

It's sort of a mix and match. The mechanical diodes they tried in the 4R100 should be avoided at all cost. Even ford recommends not reusing them (even though they brought them back in the later torqueshift transmission!). The stamped metal shells are often tossed in favor of the cast iron shells...

    Swap in 2011 axle

The superduty E-Locker will bolt into any sterling 10.25" differential going all the way back to 1984. All you have to do is route the wires to power the solenoid actuator. If you know how to set up gears, you can have an E-locker in your existing axle...

    What caused this electrical carnage?

I'm 99% sure it was the plug. The only corrosion protection the plug has, is some kind of grease that's applied at the factory. It works surprisingly well but after 30 years, it will eventually get corroded. These plastic, unsealed connectors will all fail eventually, unless you do something...

    OD worth the $ ?

60 MPH is enough to wish you had overdrive. That's how fast I would cruise with my truck before I re-geared from 4.10 to 3.08. If 3.08 was possible in a dana 60 front axle, I'd still have 3.08s even with the E4OD, because it gave me the option of 2 comfortable cruising gears. Here's some...

    OD worth the $ ?

One question is how often do you drive on the highway? Taller gears won't help your MPG if you seldom go over 40MPH. Lower gears actually help you get off the line in stop and go traffic.

    OD worth the $ ?

They all have problems. You just have to pick the one's you're willing to put up with. I'm willing to put up with the E4OD but I did the rebuild (now on the 2nd build after 13 years) and programmed the controller myself. ZF5 isn't actually the strongest transmission option (though I realize I...

    What size O rings

I second the O-Ring size. But I think I got Viton rings from Amazon. It's been a while though: https://www.amazon.ca/111-Viton-Ring-Durometer-Round/dp/B0051Y1734/ref=sr_1_9?crid=22N271JDR0ER&keywords=%22111%22+O-ring&qid=1680478848&sprefix=0111+o-ring%2Caps%2C177&sr=8-9 EDIT: You're other...

    Stuck lifter help???

That's one I haven't seen before. Thanks for sharing. I have slight tick in my engine right now (at 1000-1500 RPM) but not sure if it's injectors or lifters. New injectors are going in so I'll find out for shortly.

    Broke down

Have you gone through the engine harness connectors yet? I wonder if it was just a corroded contact somewhere on the FSS circuit. The main connector near the oil dipstick is known for corroding around the 10ga glow plug wires, but other wires go through that connector too. I would also refresh...

    Broke down

Try cranking the engine while under the hood with the schrader valve at the filter open. That will tell you right away if you have a fuel delivery problem or not. Or better yet, disconnect the line that feeds the filter and connect a hose into a cup. I had a lift pump fail a few years ago. One...

    Oil leak at Lift pump?

Looks like its confirmed that the pump was bad. I bought a "Spectra Premium" pump, simply because that's what was one the shelf but will keep an eye out for something better as a spare. See attached for what the old one looked like. The weep hole had some oil around it but because of how hidden...

Risk running a used up pipe?

The Up-pipe is completely different between the 088 and 093 setups and does not interchange. The crossover pipe from the 088 to 093 are supposedly the same. I was able to reuse my home-made crossover pipe from a 088 to the 093, after "gently" bending it by 1/4". The downpipe didn't fit (also...

    Oil leak at Lift pump?

Agree 100%. I'm starting to stock spares in my shop as well. Might just follow Tizzy's lead and get a Carter pump then try to source a ford OEM pump. I'm now regretting ever replacing my original lift pump. At the time I thought it was a good idea as a preventive measure. Since then, I've now...

    Oil leak at Lift pump?

I've been reading threads elsewhere that there should be two seals on these; one is the diaphragm and the other seals the arm from the crank case. Then there is a weep hole in the housing in between to prevent cross contamination of fluids if either seal fails. However, I can't confirm if this...

    Oil leak at Lift pump?

At first, I thought it might have been the oil pan gasket or main seal, but after checking and cleaning a few spots on the engine over the last few days, I think the lift pump is leaking engine oil. So before digging in, maybe someone can give me a sanity check: 1. Is this a common problem? 2...

Zd29s vs Zd9s...for the inquiring mind...

To get accurate readings <1ohm, you need a milli-ohm meter, sometimes called a ductor. We use them to measure generator winding resistance for maintenance records at my work. Never had use for one at home and they are usually very expensive compared to a regular multimeter (even when compared to...

Zd29s vs Zd9s...for the inquiring mind...

Open circuit would be infinite ohms, which is the opposite of zero ohms. It might show zero on an open circuit, but it's actually infinite (depending on the meter).
