    Possibly cavitated engine?

Let is sit for a few days and crack the plug again and see what you find. This is if you have the coolant full.

    Possibly cavitated engine?

Pull the oil drain plug and see what comes out. You can unthread it and hold it against the pan. You should not loose that much oil and water will come out first if there.

    Dead 7.3 IDI Diagnosis

Keep in mind that even a new filter can already be plugged depending on the condition of the fuel that is in the tanks. Should be easy enough to test both the flow and pressure the lift pump is producing.

    Dead 7.3 IDI Diagnosis

Couple of things you can do. Disconnect the wire at the sender for the filter light and go for a spin around the block, if no light at that point you should be able to rule out a wire issue. When was the last time the filter was changed? May be as simple as a filter at the end of it's life. My...

85 6.9 IDI Will not run

When testing hydraulic pumps with flow rators if you do not have it restricted you will have flow but little pressure. As you start restricting the flow the pressure will rise. You determine if the pump is good or bad by how many gallons/liters per minute it will flow at what ever pressure the...

    Dead 7.3 IDI Diagnosis

Think I got mine from a Federated Auto parts store. I replaced with the cable for a 95 power stroke as they were just a couple inches longer. I needed the extra length as I had replaced the starter and the battery terminal was in a bit different location. Makiing your own is also a good way to go.

    Dead 7.3 IDI Diagnosis

12.4 volts is a battery that is around 50% charged. 12.7-12.8 is full charge. First place I would start is getting the batteries charged back up. If you still have issues at that point since it appears you have a volt meter I would do some voltage drop test on cables and connections. How old are...

Strange Looped fuel feed lines and E- Fuel upgrade

If you do away with the OEM fuel filter be sure that the replacement is the same micron rating or you may run into more costly issues.

While the truck sits unused.. can I/should I soak the cylinders?

Are you having any issues that you are hoping to fix by doing this? If not I would leave it alone. If it is not broke don't fix it is the old saying. I have several diesel engines around this place many with thousands of hours on them. Many sits months over the winter without starting. I just do...

Lip of sleeve at bottom of cylinder

Often on repair sleeves the block is not bored all the way to the bottom before the sleeve is installed. The shoulder makes a positive stop so the sleeve can not drop. However usually you can not detect a difference like you are seeing. By chance was the block bore .020 oversize and is now back...

How to measure valve stem to rocker arm pad clearance?

Also if you reface the rocker arm where it contacts the valve stem you will gain just a bit of clearance too. If you have not started anything on the valve job yet mearsure the stem height and you will have a reference point to work with going back together. Another thing that can change all...

How to measure valve stem to rocker arm pad clearance?

I think what they were trying to tell you is to make sure the push rod is not bottomed in the lifter. You would not want to be so tight as to hold the valve open.

New 3g alternator--High voltage and then low voltage, bad regulator?

That was the reason I asked about grounds as many assume that the ground system is good when often it is not. Easy enough to run some voltage drop test to determind what may or may not be an issue.

What about the ground side of the circuit?

New 6.9 IDI - Deciding if worth resurrecting or not

Did he have a cap on that line or is it open. Just thinking of all the dirt that the engine could have injested over the years if it has been open. Which side of the air filter out at the engine?

Can I install a kill switch on my truck?

Several ways this can be done. You could install a switch that would open the start circuit at the starter relay on the right fender. You could install a switch that would open the circuit to the fuel shut off solenoid on the fuel injection pump. Both easy to do, both easy to bypass if someone...

Clinking( metal clicking) noise when rolling

How are you checking the u-joints? If you have the truck in park or gear so there no way to releave the load on the drive shaft you will not as a rule be able to find loose joints. Not saying that is your issue but just a thought. Depends on which rear axle is in your 250 if full floating the...

    sticking valve

The 6.9 that I drove years ago like to go through a fair amount of oil. Once in awhile I would forget to check it and it would start missing and blowing back through the intake. Stop and put in oil and it would clear back up with about a minute idle time. Lifters would bleed down and valves were...

    Brake issue after pulling engine

What comes to mind is yes you have vacuum but not the volume of vacuum that you actually need. I would be looking at the jb weld fix I am wondering is you don't have the port mostly blocked off and it needs to be a much larger hole. You may need to find a better manifold for a replacement...

    Brake issue after pulling engine

The impression I get is before the engine work that the brakes worked with no issues is that correct? If that is correct then start thinking what you did with an engine R-R. You probably had the vacuum hoses off from the pump and maybe to the brake booster. Any chance you plugged the hoses to...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Yes that works, I also have a freon leak detector and an ultrasound detector. Not that I do not know how to do it, just had other items on the plate yesterday.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Had to make a parts run today. Temp finally hit low 70's so turned on A/C. No cold air so when I got home connected gauges to find system was sitting at 0 pressure. Connect vacuum pump pulled it down and it held for 20 minutes without dropping so pulled vacuum for hour plus and recharged...
