    Newbie here!

What kind of work do you do? If you work that much, and you need reliable transportation, then I'd look more at a car (something like a late-90's early 2000's VW TDI), rather than an 80's IDI truck. Especially a truck that is already suspicious. You don't want to break down on your way to work.

ARP stud install and engine tear down

A little late now, but I would have left my injector lines attached to my IP. Just makes it easier to keep them in order, and also, one less thing to have to reattach when you put it all back together. :Thumbs Up When you remove your Injector Pump, DON'T remove the gear house cover. Just...

ARP stud install and engine tear down

You should update your first post with the year and other pertinent info of your truck and engine.

Did I get a good deal?

You are right about chasing. You MUST chase them. If not, your stud won't go in all the way, and then when you put your rocker arm/valve levers in, they will clash with the stud. If there is any gunk on your stud threads in the block, you'll be SOL.

Did I get a good deal?

Here's my latest write up when I did the heads on my engine stand. I don't have a write up for the process in a truck, but this might be helpful regardless. http://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/turbo/7-3-idi-cylinder-head-head-gasket-and-arp-stud-installation/

    Oil Pressure Port?

That port was where my stock oil pressure sensor was located on my '88. When I installed my hypermax kit, that same port was used by their oil feed line AND the stock oil pressure sensor. You can see the oil feed line in the middle of the turbo kit, and there is a bend to the drivers side to...

Did I get a good deal?

If I could do the head gaskets and head studs with the engine in my van, you can definitely figure out a way to do it in a truck. I think 4 or 5 of the studs were so close to the sides of the engine bay, that I had to tilt the engine just to get them to fit. Also, torquing them down to...

    Turboing a n/a 7.3idi

Nostrokes advice is spot on. Use the valley pan hole to drain back turbo oil. Here's a write up about how I punctured my valley pan baffles to increase flow, as Hypermax insisted in their manual.

    Turboing a n/a 7.3idi

Since you hijacked the thread with your unsolicited post, I'm going to give you some unsolicited advice. First, don't hijack someone else's post. Second, that truck is maybe worth $1800 at best. It's a non-turbo, 2wd, 2-door, with almost a quarter million miles.

    Newbie here!

When I lived in Wisconsin, it didn't matter how many miles were on it and how much rust it had, but if a truck has 4x4, that meant it was a minimum of $1000. Factor in the running diesel and manual tranny and that puts you close to his minimum. I'd say $1000 would be a good buy, $1500 would be...

Did I get a good deal?

While you have the clamps off, you should clean them up and do my retaining nut hack. Makes it so much easier to put them back on. http://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/fuel-system/injector-line-retainer-hack-to-keep-the-nut-in-place/

    Newbie here!

How much is he asking? If he's desperate to get rid of it, for like $400, then maybe it'll be worth all the parts you got to put into it. But if he's asking $3500 and you still need to drop $1500 or so just to get it up to speed, then you might want to pass.

Did I get a good deal?

You'll love IDI's more than PS. Mechanical, simple, cheap to work on, etc. Get yourself a turbo kit and you'll wake that engine up.

    ENGINE SWAP

It took me 3 days in a van to swap the blocks and reinstall all the accessories (cables, hoses, exhaust, radiator, condenser, tranny cooler, bumper, grill, and etc). But I wasted probably 12 hours with wrapping pipes, painting, and other luxury tasks that could have been cut out if I wanted to...

6.9 van having some issues with smoke and power

NO! When you are cracking injectors, DO NOT do it while driving. As convenient it is to remove the doghouse and try this while driving, just do it while you are idling in park. Here's an article explaining how to crack injector lines (for purging air), but the logic is still the same for...

Did I get a good deal?

:wtf: Yeahhhhh... That smells like bullsh*t. PO's will say anything to get their vehicles out the door. I'm fairly confident he rear ended someone, and he combined body panels from a different truck. You should have someone check the frame, just to make sure it ain't tweaked. How does the...

6.9 van having some issues with smoke and power

I'd say that you aren't getting enough fuel at higher RPM's. LIke IDIBRONCO said, it could be the lift pump, but I think it could also be that fuel filter. Sounds like it's starving for fuel a bit after a certain threshold. When I bought my '84 E350 6.9 IDI, it too had an issue that wouldn't...

    1000hp hypermax idi

This kind of makes me sad. I wasn't a member of OB until a few years ago. I didn't know Justin's antics until I read the posts. Frankly, I don't get all the fuss. A few jibber jabbers from 7 years ago and people still can't get over it? Seems petty. He's clearly moved on, and grown up...

I just read the posts and if some people can't get over that pathetic bravado spectacle from 7 years ago, then they shouldn't be on the internet. Banning those two from this forum hurt the collective intelligence of Oilburners.

My C6 return light didn't work well either. I found that if I wiggled the shifter arm, I could find a sweet spot where the rear lights would turn on.

farm diesel and used motor oil make fuel???????

Not necessarily. I run WVO in California, and I had to fill out a "personal use" form to transport it. Interesting backstory: Apparently 6 years ago, some douche tried hauling 6 barrels of WVO on a CA highway, and got into a wreck. His oil spilled all over the highway, causing a massive...
