The plastic tank came out of my 89.

    Front tank sending unit.

Discovered one bonus to the front plastic tank. Old metal tank = 18 gallons. Plastic tank = 23 gallons. Didn't say new plastic tank, because the plastic tank is probably a decade older than the metal tank was.

7.3 idi Wont run after installing electric pump

Yes I did. As I said the first time, I'm afraid that I can't help you. I don't have a timing meter. I'd have to learn how to use it if I did. I don't know anything about the "drip method" you mentioned. My own truck could be wildly out of time for all I know. I just adjusted the IP until I...

7.3 idi Wont run after installing electric pump

Gotta say, @Cubey, I've always liked that setup of yours. You did good!

So what did you do with your truck today?

Even if all you had up there was a spare tire and/or that jerry can full of fuel, that WILL bend. You wouldn't believe the forces put on that when you hit bumps going down the road. Even with only the weight of the rack itself. You need to at the very least brace it like this: Even that will...

Rear Fuel Tank Cleaning - Dear God

Why would you put a pickup back into a tank that has pieces of old showerhead still in it? Good thing, too! Otherwise we'd have people making posts asking about how to clean up their fuel tank! Wait... LOL

Rear Fuel Tank Cleaning - Dear God

I stuck a brass tee and hose on my uptake tube. Have a perfectly good showerhead. Just chose to go with the tee because the showerheads are so prone to breaking up. Set the sender/uptake/return in the tank loosely. Looked through the filler neck, and shined a flashlight through the vent hole...

Newer injections pump going bad? Weird symptoms. Just creeping along

Put a couple gallons of water in the truck cab. Just normal room temp. Not ice cold. When it is in 5mph mode... Pop the hood, with it still running, and slowly pour those jugs of water over the IP. If it improves right there, it's the IP. Needs replaced.

    1992 rear axle

Thank you. Mine doesn't have all the ridges like the one in your pic. That face is smooth. But it seemed to go back on "normally". I put it on at 55 ft-lbs. Then backed it off 4 clicks. If I had re-used the bearings, it would have been 8 clicks. Glad I did this. The bearings and races were...

    1992 rear axle

Nope. I pushed in with the socket. You do have to push those clips in, or it won't turn. It's just when you turn it over, upside down, the inner part looks close to falling out. I would have thought though, that just pushing in with the socket, and turning the socket with only my fingertips...

    1992 rear axle

Ok, today was the day. Got started on the rear end. Already changed the fluid. Cleaned the cover and diff, and installed a Lube-Locker gasket. Then refilled with 75-140 synthetic. Got the driver's side spindle off... I swear these bearings look brand new. They are Timken brand. Does anyone...

Re: flowcooler water pump: Start at about 1:30... Looks like they need to replace that plastic impeller with a metal one.

    Synthetic oil as fuel?

I'm talking about a way to add some lubricity, and to use up old oil, rather than just tossing it. Something with the old oil, some diesel kleen, and some diesel, that I can just add a little bit each time I fill the tank.

    Synthetic oil as fuel?

Good point. Thank you. Now I am thinking about using a small gas can to make up my own "mix" can. Some diesel kleen, some used gear oil, and some diesel.

RABS valve bypass. A completely different take.

Franklin, The lines we have are 3/16" lines. You obviously know that, since you said so. LOL The line size inside the flare fittings is just as important as the size of the fitting itself. If the fitting is for a 1/4" or 3/8" or larger line, the connection will leak, because the smaller line...

    Synthetic oil as fuel?

I changed the oil in the front diff. It's normal 80-90 weight stuff. Saved the old oil. I'll let it settle. Then I'll use it as clean as I can, to add to the fuel tank a bit at a time, just to add some lubricity. I'm about to change the oil in the rear now. It is synthetic. I am wondering...
