Yes, I wouldn't go crazy with a high $$$ converter. You don't want to put a really good converter on a used tranny. Get a basic multi disk converter.
Even with a 5.floored I would use a multi disk converter.
You can use the upper assembly too. E4 and 4R share the same lower tube. You can mix and match the upper parts. Be sure the dipstick is correct for the tube that you are using.

Check the wire hardness to the tach sensor. Make sure there is no damaged wires. Check the sensor too.
