e4od and how much to toughen it up?

X2 for Racer X Nothing wrong with a little overkill on a converter. :D

e4od and how much to toughen it up?

Actually nothing, except the forward clutch. 4R isn't fully splined like the E4. So it's common to replace the 4R part with the early E4 part.

e4od and how much to toughen it up?

If you're not going to do any heavy towing. You will not have to go crazy with a rebuild. To make the E4 more dependable. Get a better tranny cooler. TrueCool or a cooler from a 6.0. Upgrade the accumulator body with a Trans Go Tugger kit, or Sonnax Sure Cure kit. Both kits address the sloppy...

The truck will start because the converter is unlocked. There is no pressure on the clutch. Once running the engine will bog down or stall.

    e4od help needed

If the converter is locked all the time you have low fluid or a bad converter. PWM is used to dampen the converter clutch lock up. It was a factory fix for a harsh lock up. My opinion it made it to mushy.

    e4od help needed

All E4OD trannys and early 99 R4100 were non PWM. Late 99 to 03 were PWM. Is the PCM commanding TC lock up. If it is you have a bad wire, solenoid, or stuck valve. If it is not commanding TC lock up. Something is up with the PCM or related sensors.

    Transmission issues

TC lock up doesn't have anything to do with your issue. Because the batteries were disconnected any trouble codes (if any) are lost. You could fiddle with or replace TPS.

It's much easier to scan for codes first. See what it says and go from there.

    460 vs IDI E4OD

This trick only works with the ZF tranny. There isn't enough material to drill on the automatics.

yet another E4od issue...trans shop stumped!

Try another TPS. There should be no fluctuations what so ever. Any fluctuations will give a false signal to the TCM causing erratic shifts.

    1990 E-350 will not shift

Something broke internally. The tranny should have reverse and M2 with no power. If you don't have either, then it's dead.

What update/upgrades available for 7.3 transmission cooler

I haven't found anything bad about the Dorman part yet. What ever cooler you use. Be sure to use a stacked plate cooler. Not a tube and fin type cooler. True Cool by Long is a very good part. They are the Ford coolers without the Ford brackets. They come with universal mounting brackets.

    Proposed setup and stock E4OD

A good local tranny shop could set you up. Try a local guy first. If not you could go Ford reman route. A Ford reman will need the accumulator body tuned up a little. This goes back to a TransGo or Sonnax kit.

    Proposed setup and stock E4OD

90 model year. I would replace the pump to start with. Early units have the E9 pump. This is ok for a stock tranny. 95 and up use a F5 pump. The F5 will handle higher clutch pressures when you do a shift kit. Toss the stock torque converter. The converter is the weak link. This sucker should...

Help with E4OD shift issues and FIPL replacement

You have assumed correctly. The TCM is getting a faulty signal from the TPS (FIPL) or VSS. Another cause for your problem is a failing Transmission Range Sensor. (MLPS) Something else to look at.

What update/upgrades available for 7.3 transmission cooler

You have this backwards. First the radiator never heats the tranny fluid. It cools the fluid.even in extreme cold the tranny will heat up faster than the radiator. Remember O/W coolers are the most efficient type of cooler. This is why it is a primary cooler and never should be bypassed. Now...
