    Project Big Red

Took the truck for a good test drive tonight. Some freeway. Some back roads. Runs great. One minor issue popped up. I’m having an issue with my timing meter though. It’s telling me the timing is advancing with rpm. That’s not right (I think...) I suspect my line clamp is bad but I’ll have...

It’s a solid 20 footer. LOL It’s amazing what a little filler, seam sealer and flat black paint can do. LOL Considering I’ve never done anything like this before really, other than one big screw-up I’m pretty pleased.

While I was at it, I ordered up a pump upgrade from Wes. hopefully that solves some problems I’ve been having. And how cool is this.... I don’t even care if it runs better! LOL it runs good but I’ll know more and report after my upcoming trip. I fixed my water temp gauge problem...

    Project Big Red

After a lot of head scratching, cutting, welding, grinding, cussing and bleeding... I came up with this 2 piece design. It just would not fit in one piece and servicing it would have been a nightmare. Here it is installed. I had to reroute the one charge pipe. The one thing I...

    Project Big Red

Well, I know this thread has been dormant for a while. Honestly I haven’t had a lot of ambition to work on the truck. Haven’t been able to go anywhere so what was the point. Well, I’ve got some trips planned for this year so I decided it was time to attack my biggest issue. Cooling. I had...

Stay tuned.... I’ve got another update coming hopefully this week that I think is pretty cool and I’ve never seen before. Will it be worth the pain and suffering?? Time will tell.

This is the right way to do it. I’m trying to remember what I did. I think I actually bought some clips and didn’t end up using them. I think I just used some washers against the lip to pull them in. The studs litterally are right up against the window opening metal. The butyl tape stuff really...

"Tank" my 91 Crew Cab Dually

I’m liking my powermaster. Brian May have converted me.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I tell my brother this all the time when he complains about rebuilding the front end every 15k miles.

Been busy trying to get the truck back together. Here’s a teaser.

Help!! Injector seized and came apart

I know this is a little old and hope the OP got his injector out. Here is another method of extracting them. It sacrifices an injector but it’s pretty effective. Grind the mounting threads off the top half of the body. the top of the injector is M12. I tapped half of a long nut that goes...

    Electric fuel pump

The only time I really see issues with mine is WOT pulling from the rear tank. That may change soon as I believe my fuel demand is about to increase. [emoji16]

Saw that truck for sale. Glad it found a good home.

    2021 Mid-Atlantic Events

We usually have a get together late summer in Mount Airy MD. There’s a pretty decent size cruise night that happens at the Jimmy Cone ice cream shop. If it looks like it can happen, I may try to “organize” it. We have several folks that usually try to make it when we can do it. Of course nothing...

    Regulator on the return side???

I have considered that as well. I think I have a plan. Updates coming soon. [emoji16]

    Regulator on the return side???

This was my general thought as well. Interesting thought restricting it at the filter. An orifice there carefully selected might be interesting. At the end of the day it’s a hydraulic system. There are ways to manipulate flows. Does it make sense to try??? Who knows. Just wanted to have a...

    Regulator on the return side???

Okay. I’m going toss this out there. I know there’s been a lot of hate on the Facet pumps of late. I totally understand why. Not trying to debate the merits of the different pumps. We’ve beat that horse to death 50 different ways. The fundamental problem is not enough flow. To maintain steady...

2021 Rally "Throw your hat in"

I’ll be honest, I had a bid ready that I was going to pitch this year but with all the uncertainty around what May or may not be open, I just can’t pitch it. Until the Covid thing is under control it’s going to be really tough to schedule things that far in advance. I guess I said all that to...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I put a couple 6x9”s under the back seat. The open space in the center is possibly for a sub and amp but honestly, I don’t need as much bass as I used to. LOL

I want to say it was actually for an F superduty. I think it was for 92-97 as well. I looked for a picture but I don’t think I’ve got one of the part number handy.

Tonight I did something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I added some auxiliary power. I had previously added a high current solenoid solenoid to be able to turn the power on and off for the aux as well as the spare tire winch. I didn’t take a ton of pictures but I ran the cable up through...

Ignition Switch RUN terminal wire R/LG always hot

That’s a common issue with the connector. A maxi type fuse (150 or 175 amp) and a single 4 AWG will probably do it just fine. I actually relocated to my controller to my fender and ran an Anderson style connector over to the harness.

    Project Big Red

I plasma cut out a mount plate for the head rest pad and welded that all up. Then I added a seat belt guid to improve the shoulder belt angle just a bit. and test fit the pad. Duplicated it for the other side and welded it all together. With that all done I gave it a shot of primer...

Trying to be optimistic and getting ready for camping season. One major problem was that the little one is about to outgrow his boosters. I put shoulder belts in the back a long while back. The problem now is that with no headrest, if we got rear ended hard, he might break the back glass with...

    Project Big Red

It’s been said these heads actually flow pretty well. The design of the pre-cup is what causes the heat shed in the head. Most direct injected engines have the combustion happening mainly in the cylinder and top of the piston. The other thing is that unless the heads are horrendous, boost will...
