Running a little hotter and maybe slight stumble

Bang on the muffler and see if it sounds solid. The one I took off my parts truck weighed a ton. It was a ford oem. May have been original to the truck.

    boost related ticking?

It’s odd. Could be an exhaust leak but it’s weird that it really only makes the noise when the engine is under load. Seems like when it downshifts it quiets way down. Could it be a fuel knock? You don’t hear anything out the intake or exhaust do you? Hell I thought mine was going to blow...

    2019 Rally Convoy

I hear you. This is on the edge of what I consider a 1 day trip. As long as things go okay, it won’t be too bad. We did KY back in a day. This is pretty similar for us. It was a long day but doable. If the wife goes separate it alleviates a lot of stress for us. It’s not so much that she likes...

    2019 Rally Convoy

I’m coming up 70 to hagarstown. The trip through harpers ferry sucks towing. I’ve done that twice now. It’s no slower towing to go to hagarstown and turn south. Looks like there is a big flying J just as you cross into Va from WV. Right now they are $3.10 a gallon. That’s 88 miles for me...

    2019 Rally Convoy

That’s my general route as well. I think fuel is generally cheaper in VA than MD and WV so that may influence your decisions on stops. @tjsea what is your fuel window? At 300 miles I start looking. Assuming my usual 10 mpg. I won’t necessarily be looking for fuel in hagarstown if we want to...

    Wire harness hell

I separated mine when I did it and moved the gp controller to the fender. Anderson style connector for the GP power. I used metripak connectors for the rest but I added some stuff. You might be able to use weatherpack. Here’s the plug diagram. You don’t have to “good at electrical”. The...

Borgesson Steering Shaft... Just Do IT!!!!

His motto is also die like a man. LOL LOL LOL Seriously though, I was going to do that but it was worth the extra money to me to be able to collapse the damn thing to install it easier. By the time you cut it down, there’s not a ton of room for it to collapse anyway. The inner and outer...

Borgesson Steering Shaft... Just Do IT!!!!

Holy crap. Changed the worn steering shaft out of my truck. Borgesson 980 is the replacement. Cut to size and paint it up. Truck drives like new now with the Red Head steering gear and all fresh steering parts. Totally recommend. It took the last slop out of the system.

Got the shaft installed. OMG. Totally worth every penny. My daily has more slop in it. I have a hard time with it because I’m used to having to anticipate. Borgesson steering shaft. Just do it!!

    2019 Rally Pot Luck

I haven’t been paying close attention to the main site. May want to say something over in the rally thread so people get notifications. [emoji16] We can help with whatever, be it filling in the holes or providing main staples. Let me know if you need cooking surface. I have both the flat...

    Project Big Red

Finally starting to turn my sights toward the truck for the rally. There’s a few little things I want to do and one big one if I have time. Started on this today. Picked up a Borgesson 980 steering shaft this spring to get rid of the sloppy intermediate shaft. Cut it to size and just...

"Tank" my 91 Crew Cab Dually

The pressure switch you had will work. The retrofit comes with a new one though. The good news is I’m 99-% sure you can change the pressure switch without venting the system.

    Carrier/facet pump observations

The level in the fuel bowl is a common observation on the facet pumps. I personally think it’s more indicative of suction side restriction. I think there is always some air gap in the bowl. When you pull more fuel you change the pressure of the liquid and the air gap expands but the pressure of...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

My concern is not so much cutting the fan down but the fact that by the time you take 2” off the blades, there’s not a lot of blade left. Look close at that picture of the two fans on top of each other. The hub center on the 6.4 fan is huge. The blades are only about 6.5” stock. Take 2” off...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

You are running the IDI fan? I’ve wondered if the weight difference of the metal vs plastic fan would make a difference. I know the 6.4 fan is to big as is. You showed that and I’ve confirmed it for myself.

    Let’s talk fan clutch

I’ve been fighting water temp issues as well. Seems like replacement clutches are extremely hit and miss. If you have a good one hang on for dear life. Need to come up with a suitable aftermarket solution. @ifrythings is about as close as I’ve seen.

    replacing front crankshaft seal

Make sure it’s the seal and not leaking around the bolt in the balancer. That bolt/washer gets a big dab of RTV as it goes into the oil galley. If the balancer has a groove in it, you may need to speedi sleeve it. I’ve got PN’s for the correct sleeve somewhere.

Trip report time. Took the truck across the mountains. No issues. Got about 16-16.5 mpg. Hauled a load of drywall. Nothing too crazy. Just trying to get some miles on her. I think we have officially made it to 10k miles since recommissioning. Still have some bugs to work out but I’m trying to...
