    2022 Rally

@hesutton Joe @pafixitman and I have had a quick look around. Availability is nil. Prices are high. If you don’t mind me asking, what were you considering too expensive? Seems like the KOA’s around here are $70-80 a night. Most of the others I’ve looked at are in that same range for full...

So yes, people have done that. I’ve tried it. I finally came to the conclusion that there’s not enough air going through the stack to heat the spring and get it to engage. I’ve done IDI clutch with big fan and it doesn’t come on until way too late. It’s all about the air flow as a wise man told...

@homelessduck Soooo... How much ?? PayPal ready :) I’ve considered having them made once I have enough test mileage to feel good about it. If there is interest, I would consider it. Unfortunately, the prototype places that do small runs have gotten really pricey of late. From the use I first...

It’s been a while… again… LOL I’ve been suspecting my batteries were going south on me for a while. I noticed that the volt gage wasn’t recovering at all after the glow plugs then it was really struggling to turn over. I tried charging them. Nada. So out they come. Who was the ******* that...

    How hot is too hot?

Just to catch this thread up, I did fit the 6.4 fan and fan clutch with adapter bushing. I have one trip on it and that combination seems to work pretty well. I haven’t put it to the max stress yet (I-68 with the AC on) but on the trip to Michigan last fall, kicking the fan on kept it cool...

Yes there is a shroud. If you go back a few posts, you’ll see it. I just left the top off to watch and make sure it’s running true. As for the bushing, I drew it up and had it machined so now I have a CAD model.

It runs good and true. As far as I know, this is the first 6.4 PSD fan on an IDI with 6.4 PSD fan clutch. The clutch has been done with a stock fan. I believe that was @ifrythings if not I apologize. I went with a basic on/off control just to try it out. When it comes on it sounds like a...

Wow. Haven’t updated this thread since May. Time really flies. After spending a lot of time scratching my head over the cooling problem, I decided to try a couple things. First thing was to bypass part of the water flow around the thermostat. I pulled the heater hose line that goes into the...

    A Post I Don't Want To Make

I know I’m late to the party, but had it rained since you last parked it? Water in #7 and #8 can happen with a questionable cowl seal. Migh have got just enough to bend it but not hydrolock it. Sorry to hear you’re having issues. These trucks will make us do stupid things.

I never even thought of that. I would think the meter would show a negative symbol though right?? But I think when I moved the pump it went the right way...

    After years of idi ownership...

Okay. I’ve read through this thread. I’ve had one of these meters for a while. I have had a bit of an issue lately. The last couple times I’ve used it, it’s showing me that the timing is increasing as the rpm increases. I realize that’s not right. I have seen correct behavior in the past with...

    Why are posts not editable?

@adrianspeeder FWIW, an admin went through and did “something” to pull my build thread pictures in from photobucket. I don’t remember which one or have any clue what they did but it got the bulk of them.

"Tank" my 91 Crew Cab Dually

I had my truck frame done for about $250 I think. The wanted another 200 to epoxy prime it. That was a mistake on my part. Should have let them do it. Sand blasting place here in MD.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I know I’m late to the party but here is my custom IDI oil filter removal tool. @pafixitman

    How hot is too hot?

I think your last point is key here. The cooling system was designed for a little over half the horsepower we can make now easily. There has to be a wholistic approach. If you want to make “modern” power you need “modern” cooling to be able to utilize it. That means modifying the cooling system...

    How hot is too hot?

I think the fan clutch is fine. It is a new motorcraft unit and it is coming on. I think the heat is not getting to the radiator fast enough to bring it on when I need it to. Remember it’s the radiator temp that brings the fan in not the temp in the block. At least for now....

Well, trip was great other than the truck still running hot. Discussion of that is here: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/how-hot-is-too-hot.89648/ Before all that, I had fun with this. Yep. Trying to pack and hitch the camper. Truck wouldn’t start. I was really close to wiring in a...

    How hot is too hot?

Good thoughts guys. Most of the answers are in my build thread. Down shifting to 3rd really does not help that much. I think it’s pretty much hosed by then. I made it to the top but the water temp really did not drop. Top of the list is timing. My meter is a dti tech time. It has worked...

    How hot is too hot?

Lots of good thoughts here guys. Let me answer some questions and toss out some observations. Yes it is a champion radiator. Having just cut a big hole in the tank I don’t think there is any manufacturing defect. However, I think your flow comment could be on the money but not a fault with...

    How hot is too hot?

Alright. It’s been pretty well documented that I’ve been struggling with water temp issues on my truck to the point that I did this. I took my first trip today loaded down through the mountains and I think it was a mixed bag. I’ve got plenty of fuel now. Truck runs good. It just runs really...
