    6.9 block work

Please DO NOT use this shop. The guy is clearly a fool and unknowing of the proper way of the idi engine. Sure you or anyone else "can" install the plugs with a socket but you will NEVER know if done correctly. Or plugs require the special tool so the ark in the plug is compressed enough to cut...

Can't find the "chirp" in my 7.3...

On the front of the tensioner is the belt guide scale. Its a pointer that moves telling you your in the right area for correct fit. Sadly most have no idea what this scale is or how to use it. My guess now is the belt is the wrong length but will see later...

    E40D help please!

Welcome to the forum. My guess is this has to be electrical feed back somehow. Or you are testing the TPS on the wrong wire. You MUST test from the center wire that goes into the TPS. You MUST have the engine warmed up so the fast idle is off and the cold advance is off. .96 to 1.2 volts at the...

    "93 f250 7.3 n/a help

That looks like diesel mixing with oil on the engine. Best check the top of the engine around the injectors. Usually thats where diesel leaks from on these engines.

    Fuel system mystery

Welcome to the forum. My guess is your fuel change valve is sticking because some of the old suction screens are getting sucked in and trapped internally. you can open this valve by drilling out the rivets but will need self tapping screws to put it back together

    1988 7.3 idi DEAD

Welcome to the forum. Any idi engine either a 6.9 or 7.3 will fit but.. You need to know what the replacement engine came from. If it came from a heavy truck or buss then it needs different external parts like oil cooler heads, exhaust manifolds and bell housing adapter plates. May need a...

    changing the block... again

porting the exhaust... The wrong direction.. Best idea I have is bad valve seals and that carbon from burning oil coking up the port..Never have I ever seen anything that bad.

how to go on with my E4OD

The E4OD trans is heavy at around 300 pounds.Just be careful. Also you will need about 30 inches on ground clearance to get the trans out from under the lowest parts of the truck or van.

    Money Pit #2 Won't run.

For my best wild ass guess is the return fuel system is blocked and no return will keep any idi engine from running.

Ferret timing meter or comparable timing apparatus

This forum has had great luck using the Kent Moore J33300 or the newer J33300-A meters. They are a simple to use meter. You clean two places. Connect. Start engine. Press one rocker switch. The hand rev to 2000 rpm and read timing and rpm on meter digital display. Its just that simple. the meter...

    Money Pit #2 Won't run.

Welcome to the forum. Can you explain why it was a non runner when you purchased it? Could the previous owner changed the injection pump and it would not start so they gave up on it? No matter what, you must have something coming out the exhaust when cranking. As a suggestion why not pull or...

New engine but low power. 7.3 IDI

Please do not buy from any auto parts stores. Way too many reasons to AVOID these cut rate places. Now about driving with the meter connected to check advance.. Nope... You can run the meter as if you are timing the engine and watch the timing change from idle to 2000 rpm. We have to rev these...

    High strength head bolts

Before you change the lengths please measure the lenght of what is standard. Reason I tell you to do this is ALL the head bolt holes drilled in the block are the blind hole type. None of them enter any water passages like many gas engines do. Buying one new bolt and comparing it to the standard...

New engine but low power. 7.3 IDI

Both the j33300 and the j33300-A meters work great on our engines. I prefer the "A" model because its in a smaller case and its all digital solid state. Ask if the display is red. If it is than that is a no longer repairable meter because the parts are no longer made for the display. It has a...

    Electrical issues

Mine melted at the power to the glow plug controller. So I ran a direct line from controller to the fender mounted solenoid. I removed the two yellow feed lines that are the way ford engineers ran power to the controller. Two lines are cheaper than one large line in the electrical industry. I...

    Idi crank no start

If your looking for lots of fuel to squirt out of the injector hard lines you wont see that. Very little fuel is sent to injectors during engine cranking. Best way to purge air from injector lines is leave them tight and crank for 10 to 15 seconds. Stop cranking and crack open every hard line at...

New engine but low power. 7.3 IDI

From reading this post from the beginning my guess is timing of lack of fuel. Lack of fuel can be anywhere from the tanks to the filter or weak lift pump. Even a crushed fuel hard line somewhere or that short rubber hose from the frame to the lift pump. Timing is the best way to know for sure...

New engine but low power. 7.3 IDI

Throttle cable checking. Fuel filter and as always.. Timing. Many are real surprised when they finally time with a meter. Correct timing wakes up a low hp engine. Also please tell this forum what rig the replacement engine came from. Reason for the question is if the replacement engine was from...

    BB > G

In my engine I found I got lower mileage and less power with the G codes. I purchased 2 new sets of G codes and tried both sets. Even pop tested both sets. the BB codes I got from Russ were like adding 2 more cylinders to my mill. This was my experience. you you "feel or get" is just that...
