    Voltage regulator?

Mine does the exact same thing, and expected. That glow plug relay is switching a heavy electrical load, 200 amp or so, on and off. You expect to see that on your battery buss. Get used to how much it perturbs a good set of batteries. Now you are more prepared to know if your batteries are...

    Best oil

That's also my biggest retro-wish for my van. Keep the front the same as the truck. The van design is a pain in the service bay. But I need the van cargo design. Why the hell did Ford not use their F front end for the van?

Stupid question of the day. Parasitic draw.

You didn't forget to unplug any new high tech add-on goodies? Any heavy loads on, but powered through a bad connection that keeps you from seeing it? I'm thinking something like a bad brake switch that's not going completely open. Or maybe some conductive crud around a terminal somewhere...

Why did my 7.3 not like ether today.

Thanks! I was considering what gaseous fuels I have around that might work in lieu of ether for coaxing a cold engine to start. Oh, well...

Why did my 7.3 not like ether today.

Does propane, dispensed from an unlit torch, into the air intake of a diesel help start it?

Can you guys tell me about my new 6.9

What's a good port to plug into to measure oil pressure on a 7.3L IDI? I have a few industrial 60 PSI pressure transducers laying around, they are 1/8 inch NPT. What's on the engine? 1/4 NPT? ( I have to use a special gauge unit for them as well, but that's in my ballpark )

    Bumper tow?

Will the older bumpers bolt on to an OBS 1994 E350 van? I am about to get my older bumpers powdered black...but having an older bumper with a level top would be nice...especially for leaving bolt holes for mounting of vise.

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Anyone know any reason why Mike can't safely attempt a start if he wires the hots of all his glow plugs together, then powers the group for 10 seconds or so using a jumpstart cable? Then engage starter motor immediately after disconnecting the power to the plugs? He's posted his glow plug...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I live in Southern Commiefornia. It gets hot here. But I can tell you my 7.3L IDI is hard to start without the glow plugs. With them, it starts damn near immediately. Even in the summer. I would go after those glow plugs....all they do is trip off combustion. Once the engine catches, now...

    Over heating and E4Od issues

Agreed. I lost the engine in my Toyota due to stuck shut theromstat. All the time my coolant temperature sensor, mounted in the radiator, kept telling me everything was hunky dory while my engine was literally running dry. By the time I sensed something was amiss, I already had irreparable...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Maybe the IP is worn and not developing sufficient pressure for proper atomization? Any easy way to test for that? I hate shotgunning like that...too much work. They may spray fine into 1 bar ambient, but are they spraying into 18 bar or so in the cylinder? Anyway, all I'm doing is saying...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Geez...grasping at straws here...weak starter motor? Weak battery? A seasoned ear would have detected that before I got the first three letters typed. If compression isn't fast enough, it won't hit temperature to ignite. I'm puzzled. Compression good, fuel good, yet no ignite. Could the...

If he's getting fuel, glow plugs hot, and compression, why isn't he at least getting smoke? Timing that far off?

This is kinda obvious, but I have overlooked stuff like this way too many times... You are getting power to the fuel shutoff solenoid? I feel almost insulting to post, but I can't tell you how many time I have spent enormous amounts of time and resources, barking up the wrong tree. I mean, by...

    FIPL fun

I like to take a 0.1 uf or so capacitor, in series with an old pair of headphones, listen between wiper and ground. Listen for crackles and pops. The engine is not running, but the power is on. Move the lever manually. A bad one will sound like the old style volume control in bad need of a...

Stupid question of the day. Parasitic draw.

Yuppers...Both negatives. Usually, the negatives are much easier to remove as well. Not as much wiring clutter than typically found on the positive hot side. And a wrench slip to frame is not a disaster when disconnecting negative from frame. Leave the positive terminals alone. No need to...

    Walbro FRB-13-2 6-8 psi 43 gph

I'd just like to thank GM for starting this thread. The thing I value most in my stuff is resilience and robustness. If I can't count on it to be there when I need it, I have no use for it. I was flat ignorant about the Wallbro pump. The more I research this thing, the more I like it. All...

    Design for a 3,000 W inverter install.

I guess those are 6 volt batteries you are connecting in series. Amp Hours does not add for series connected cells, but voltage ( and watt-hours ) do. That is two 6V 100AH batteries in series will net you 12V, 100AH. Or, in parallel you will get 6V, 200 AH. 1200 Watt Hours either way. Be...

    Vinyl tubing and diesel fuel?

I used some coolant hose by mistake once. Within days, it was leaking. Drip, drip, drip, all over the floor. Try to find the bad connection. Couldn't find any. The diesel was coming right through the hose, and the hose had become quite soft. Needless to say, I replaced it post-haste before...

Carter P4070 Electric fuel pump failures.

Its gonna be decades before the crappy pumps are taken out of inventory, now that the word is out and their old customers have retrofitted to other pumps. No telling how long those pumps will languish on retailers shelves. Booyah, thanks for the link. I'll probably build my own PWM from...

    Twin Pyrometers?

Well, if one seems to be off, you can quickly check it against the other one. I always like redundancy on critical systems. Redundancy sure cuts the probability of SOL. (S#!7 Outta Luck)
