    Food for thought for whatever it's worth. Something like fluid film can be washed off if you have to work on something. Cosmoline dries and would take a lot more to get off if it's in the way. I'm thinking about wiring repairs and stuff that are inevitable on our old rigs.

    The ONLY purpose for THAT return line is to bleed excess air from the filter head before it reaches the IP. There was actually a TSB from Ford at some point to plug that line to prevent air intrusion and drainback, although I don't have the TSB number... I certainly understand your hesitation...

    I think the biggest concern would be the potential for the bolts to damage the main cap without the spacer. I know they have to be a certain length but that's really all I know. Maybe someone else can chime in? @typ4 maybe?

    They should have been grateful for you running the stress test for them! Better to weed out the weak spots! I've heard of people needing long spline driveshafts, but long travel steering shafts is definitely a new one!
