I like the idea of using the jumper cables as a temporary ground. (Thanks franklin2). I will keep that in mind for future troubleshoots.
I tried it but it did not solve this problem.
So I slid under and checked the wire to the starter. (Thanks IDIBRONCO). I could swivel the wire a bit so I did...
Same here. Mighty Vac. It worked well the one time I needed it after replacing the clogged fuel filter. I took the needle out of the Schrader valve at the filter head and shoved the vac hose over it and squeezed until I got fuel. I put the needle back in and started the engine.
I change the fuel...
I should have installed battery warmers while I had them out. Not that it's the current problem, but it could help in the future. I'm just trying to get her blood flowing again after 3? weeks of sitting. I think she's mad at me. ;-)
Dunno. It was getting dark and starting to get cold so I called it a night.
And it's supposed to go back to very cold and windy for this weekend so now just trying to formulate a plan of action/troubleshooting for when the weather permits. No hurry.
Been there, done that. Track bikes used to (still do?) have a way to lean the mix out near the end of the race for more power. If you didn't melt the piston(s) down at the finish line then you didn't give it everything you had. ;-)
Fwiw, I have the OEM water filter on my firewall with the...
All was fine 3? weeks ago when I parked it. It's been cold. Below 0 at night and teens during the day.
Went to start it and it was turning over slow. Not surprised. I charged the batteries to full. Then it wouldn't even turn over. Just a click.
I figured the (2 yrs. old) 850CCA batteries went...
This one has been listed for a while. It's an hour drive from here. But I feel like I should save it.
I guess I should assume it's "cavitated" and worthless?

My idea of perfect would be a fold-forward bench (to access ext. cab) with fold-up center console (for 3rd. passenger up front) with decent cup holders instead of my captain's chairs with fixed center console and worthless cup holders. Seems like the Broncos had something like this at one point?
Yeah. Just not sure that this is gonna be my "forever" truck. If it was, then I probably would. But I'm not hauling my dirtbikes to races anymore so I really don't need a bed. Still wondering if I should try to trade for something like a 4-door Wagoneer or Land Rover (from the same era).
This is near me so if anyone here is interested I can try to help as needed.
Or should I grab it myself for the engine and ZF5 to put in my truck some day? (prob. never happen)...
I've never seen one of these. So simple yet so effective. I'm thinking I wish I had one when I replaced my starter? I'm trying to think of other uses but I guess I'll have to just get one so that I'll never need it (like so many of my other spare parts and tools that I bought for "some day I'll...
The hood and roof paint is toast from the sun. Just hoping to pretty up and save the rest for as long as I can.
Or I guess I may just have to give in and have it all painted. I just think that would take away so much of the flavor of it.
I like old stuff. ;-)
I like having the original, honest, paint. But it is kinda dull/faded. Is there something I could I do/use to brighten it up a bit or is it likely too far gone? (from 1987)
Here's one to grab and store for when you're old and there's no more IDIs left.

I got it all set up before going under the truck. You need to have the right length socket extensions so the ratchet ends up just behind the starter. Extensions with wobble heads are best. I got it all set up with the bolt in the hole and the socket on the bolt and I taped the extension(s) to...
I'm in the same boat. When I turn the key I get a solid noise like you'd get with a low battery but no start. Same in Park or Neutral. I replaced the contacts board in the column. No luck. I gave up and rigged a push button start.
When the cable coming from my 1987 C6 (or maybe the transfer case?) broke then both the odo. and speedo. stopped working.
The nylon gear was fine. The end of the cable near the gear was twisted and frayed.
Be careful that the new cable comes up through the dash at the correct angle. My new one...
