Sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. 77 miles from home.
Was driving along fine then the engine just shut off and I coasted to a stop. It won’t fire.
I pressed the Shraeder valve and fuel came out (I wasn’t cranking the engine).
I wiggled the connectors at FSS. Don’t know...
I think I'm gonna give one of these bracket-mounted type a shot in the upper rear cab corners.
Not expecting great sound but it's the best option I've found without having to hack up my plastics.
Maybe I can even use one of the factory screws to mount them...
Also check the switch near the pedal. I can't remember my exact symptoms but my wire there had worn and was intermittent connection that I was chasing for a while.
I didn't know my pump was weak until I started having problems with hot starts (and pouring water on it helped get it to start). And it was still running fine and making decent power then once running.
I'd check your FSS beyond just listening for the click.
Both additives mentioned claim to DEmulsify (separate) the water from the fuel. Not trap it in the fuel.
So it seems that it would be easier for the mechanical separator to catch it. Or at least for it to sit at the bottom of your tank.
So I'd have to agree with Booya that you probably just...
Disconnecting all your injector lines (at the injectors, you might not have to take them off the pump), and then pulling out the pump. I don't know how to get at the filter then but maybe it can be done without taking the lines off the pump.
If I didn't know the story on my pump and I was going...
I've been running Opti-Lube XPD additive. Among the other things that it claims to do is, "Improves water separation (demulsifies)". So I'd guess that makes it easier for the separator to catch the water? Or does it make it easier for the engine to digest water?
I just read up on the Stanadyne...
Not sure how it will play out. I don't even know how the current fuel lines are connected.
I assume it's all still OEM since the original separator is still there.
I received the parts but I don't plan to install it until warmer weather. Sorry.
The parts assembled are almost 10" long including the drain valve. Hopefully there's room for it.
I put the foam hats behind the front door speakers. I don't have any rear speakers and the truck never had any.
I have seen pictures with oem rear corner plastics with grilles for speakers. I don't know what year or cab configuration they were on or what the speakers mount to. I'm wondering...
The oem door speakers were pretty weak so I bought some aftermarket ones and added the foam "hats" behind them. Not much better. The (aftermarket) radio looks like a cheapo so that may be part of my problem too.
I have seen some of your trucks have 6x9? speakers in the rear cab corners. Is that...
Dang. It starts great. I can't imagine why it wouldn't stay running. Very frustrating, I'm sure.
Maybe the vibration is affecting a bad ground wire mount and causing the FSS to close? I'm grasping at straws.
