    Project Stress Test

I haven’t had an IP apart yet, I need to do that soon. But I was messaging with Justin and he explained to me how activating the cold advance opens the regulators check valve / drops all housing pressure. If the check valve gets stuck it won’t let housing volume out so it would affect the...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Do you do Rausch or AOAA?

I definitely recommend removing your windshield, it allows you to have the timing unit right in the vehicle

I’ve had glow shift before. I didn’t have any accuracy issues. The only issue they would have is “dying” and you need to reboot them. I could see people not realizing that you have to reset them tho and RMA’ing them which would be annoying. I would have to pull them out and pull and reconnect...

Yep I hear you and remember, this is also a brand new R&D pump and injectors. I’ve had maybe four R&D pumps, this was the first one I had in the box for a couple months before running it because I was fabricating. Maybe something was just sticking with the metering valve. Audio doesn’t do it...

    Project Stress Test

here’s what I did: 1. Changed return setup (I ran the pump return to a bucket but made no difference) 2. Ran it on a heavy hot shots blend 3. Jumped the cold advance and fuel shutoff solenoid 4. Ran it longer and gave it the American ring seating 5. Noticed the idle screw was backed out (this...

It’s fixed - I did a bunch of things at once though so I can’t tell you which it was.

Even though it’s behaving like 180 out here’s my logic why it’s not. Adding some simple background for people getting into engines too. It’s a four stroke engine. Intake stroke The piston moves down the cylinder, opening the inlet valve and drawing in a fuel and air mixture. Compression stroke...

Yea what Nero said but you need to crank longer intervals.

    Power Steering Pump

Here’s my write up from the tech section https://www.oilburners.net/threads/how-to-convert-a-vacuum-brake-pedal-to-hydroboost-pedal.89057/

    Power Steering Pump

Ditto, only thing I would add is I modify the pedal pin and swap to a red head box or similar rebuilt box. Not required regarding box, you can use factory box.

Could be lol I’ve been going down the diagnostic list today and you never know. That was my next step to triple check after lunch. It has that kind of feel. Either way the cam needed to be adjusted so that was good.

    Project Stress Test

Yes, thanks for response though. I’ve tested IDIs from 0 degrees to in the teens and they still idle like you said. This one will not idle. Almost like metering valve sticking or something. Justin set’s the idle twice, initially via the internal adjustment with the cover off, and then after all...

It’s back together, started it, same issue doesn’t idle and appears to be unburned diesel. Compression tested it, every cylinder is over 400 psi. Next stop may be IP/injector.

Cam re-adjusted. Back together we go.

    Re-adjusting a cam installed incorrectly

I started the car for the first time. I didn’t install the cam in this and could tell something was off timing wise. It wouldn’t even start without the IP max advanced. The PO had installed the cam one tooth retarded. This is a PSA that the R&D cam needs to be degreed in to 111*/112* +/- 2*...

    Expected boost

It’s not directly in response to your question but some things for your consideration. I had a T04Z truck, Wastegate delete, CDD intercooler, R&D 130 IP. It was supposed to see mid 30s and it was seeing 26 psi at the cold side pipe going into the intake. I pressure tested the system and no...

    Cold timing advance problem

That doesn’t sound right but I don’t run cold advance so I can’t say 100%. Cold advance is like 3 degrees. That won’t cause those symptoms unless you think there’s something downstream funny happening in the pump? Do you know it’s clicking off or guessing it’s clicking off right when it happens?

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

there’s different style relays but all the same concept. You’re going to have highlighted red below the always hot from the battery. In the purple highlighted area you’ll have S and I. S is energized when you turn the key to start. It then allows the electricity to flow from Red to Orange below...

My '89 is dead, what's happened?

Chances are it’s the ignition switch, rod, etc along those lines in the column. It’s a bricknose thing. Jump the starter relay. If you don’t know how send pic of your solenoid.
