Uh huh :D Eric thinks I'm dumb and don't use a gasket because it's not shown in the photo with the magnet out of the plug. And said to use an o-ring o_O- Cubey

C6 Break In
The sheild on the RVs c6 dipstick got lost somehow, but it got replaced when it got rebuilt. It still had the rubber bushing meant to seal somewhat, but it was shrunken from age. So the shield can come loose for some reason.- Cubey

C6 Break In
I finally dug up a picture of the C6 dipstick handle, as it was on the 85 E350: Now, it could be different on a later C6 dipstick. My 89 has much better dipstick access to the E4OD than the RV did for C6. The oil dipstick is also better to reach on the 89. and the shield piece is sitting...- Cubey

Beware of crappy magnetic oil drain plugs
Doing an oil change today, I had a look at the magnetic oil drain plug. It had a few big pieces of metal. :eek:So it was doing it's job. BUT ..... I started wiping it off roughly with a paper towel... and the magnet pulled out. So um yeah... that's not good. I don't have a regular drain plug...- Cubey

Finally done. The zerk went in much better and didn't strip out. Got the 3 ends with zerks greased up. One was partly full filled from the factory I went ahead and greased the king pins and driveshaft u-joints too while I was all grimy. Oh and engine oil change. I should be all done...- Cubey

C6 Break In
It wouldn't be difficult with a flexible tape measure, with the doghouse removed. You might need an assistant though, unless you tape down one end of it. The round metal on the far right is the C6 dipstick tube on the RV. The turbo downpipe is a bit in the way in the picture.- Cubey

Unfortunately, I never measured the C6 dipstick on the RV. My 89 has E4OD, so that's probably no help. I checked the MPC and grabbed these part number sections for you. They're all in reference to C6: Tube: Dipstick: (For those who don't know, 6.9 is 420, 7.3 is 445)- Cubey

the dimple on the dipstick near the handle is where a little metal shield rests, so that should give you a pretty close idea of where it should stop. easiest thing would be to buy one of those aftermarket ones I linked. you'll just have to pull back the doghouse to check the ATF, which...- Cubey

C6 Break In
Fresh ATF can be very hard to see on the dipstick because it's so clean and not darkened from use. Plus a 35 year old dipstick isn't silver and shiney anymore unless you scour it. I find that fresh engine oil is hard to see too.- Cubey

1200 is the max you want to do on egt. 1000 on grades is normal. 600-800 at highway speeds is normal too it's a c6. there would be a separate factory button for overdrive to the left side of the steering column, plus E4OD didn't come out until 1989 The c6 itself has no wires at all, except...- Cubey

The saga continues! .... I took back the tie rod with the stripped zerk and the clerk yesterday ordered the more expensive brand (Precision) and the clerk today did an equal exchange. I decided to open the kinda beat up and taped up box before I went out the door ... and it's missing the zerk...- Cubey

There's a big round hole on the firewall on the driver side that someone cut and already had wires running through, so I just keep using that same hole to run more. I need to eventually block up the hole some, because mice were coming in from the engine bay in early summer. I finally got rid of...- Cubey

They must have bought out a storage unit/warehouse of NOS Ford stuff and made the account just for that. All that's listed is 60s-early 90s Ford parts. It's possible, but it looked like it was going into the factory harness. There's a lot of leftover wires from past extra equipment around in here. I guess I'll just wrap it in electrical tape and leave it alone. I have the batteries unhooked right now (neg), because I'm running 10 gauge wires...- Cubey

I have no clue what this is. It's been dangling loose on the driver side between the battery and firewall, but I only just noticed. It's nowhere near glow plug wiring, so being yellow and heavier gauge is a coincidence. I don't see anything around it could go to. It was hiding behind the big...- Cubey

Sounds like low fluid, frankly. Oil expands as it gets hot, could explain why it doesn't work right when cold.- Cubey

Yeah but I'd rather just warranty it, since I didn't even install it yet. If the next one has the same zerk, I guess I'll just be more careful screwing it in. The other two had zerks with 7mm hex (7mm 1/4" drive socket on a hand driver) and they went in fine, and that one was 8mm and stripped.- Cubey

Well the 13/14 issue was an online order, just from a company with retail presence so it made it easier to correct. And I'd be in worse shape if the left inner had this zerk stripping problem with something ordered online without a retail store. I'd have to ship this back and wait a week for...- Cubey

Sometimes you have to look at both sides of the dipstick, depending on which way it dipped in. A properly rebuilt c6 with a proper level of ATF shouldn't be slipping or having a 30 second delay. The 27ft RV pulling a small box trailer full of stuff didn't have any such problems being a freshly...- Cubey

I got the O'Reilly clerk to equal exchange the 13 for the 14 after showing her on her screen why I got the wrong one. She didn't really want to at first, but did after I pushed the issue. I mean it's not my fault they have an error. They're both exactly the same price normally, so they aren't...- Cubey

I just tossed $43 at this. Dunno if my van has a 16 or 19 gallon front tank, but IDI van parts are so hard to get. The front sender is wonky on the van, so figured I better grab this, just in case.
