I was parked slightly downhill last night at a rest area. I saw no moisture on the ground this morning, no seepage from the lower hose, and no spray on the engine presumably, I heard no squealing when I promptly got on I-10. So hopefully that's solved.
Ok yeah it's gonna need a bigger cooler for sure. Today when I entered Arizona, a mild but steady climb upwards on I-10 from New Mexico got it up around 190° at 55-60mph on a 70° day, not even towing. If it gets to 190°, it seems to take forever to cool back down. A 3/4" thick pipe/fin cooler...
Well i tightened the lower clamp a bit. And it sprayed again.during a slow 1mi drive to a park
It might have been the upper hose at the radiator, since that side seemed to be more soaked when I looked. I got out the hand driver again and it did tighten up a bit (worm gear clamp).
So maybe...
Yeah I'm thinking it's the lower hose at the radiator. The RV's always dripped a little, even though it was replaced and the clamp was tight.
I replaced this hose too and it has been more leaky than the RV's. I found it starting to drip this evening despite the radiator still being pretty warm...
Could be the lower hose. I'll look into that.
I hope it's not the water pump. I replaced it in January. It seems like its coming from further forward but who knows. Either the lower hose or the radiator.
Two days ago, I cranked up the van and got going. I heard squealing like a belt or empty power steering pump. I pulled over and found everything soaked in coolant. It wasn't very warned up yet but was from a few miles on the highway.
I shut it off and looked around good. Back driver side of the...
Drop the leading 1 and that's about accurate.
I haven't had a 454 or Ford 460, but people say the 460 in motorhomes isn't terrible for power. But also people buying old RVs aren't too worried about keeping up with traffic.
I wouldn't mind having a tach, but it would have to be some kind of...
I dunno for sure but I saw someone on a forum say it: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/24752-governor-setting-on-6-9-a.html
But this (#3) says 3300:

The oil looked like it was from 1985 when i changed it in 2019, and it still had the 4.10 tag under a bolt. You'd think someone would have removed the tag if it was changed.
According to this, 3500rpm could get it to 77mph.

Without turbo, I'm guessing you mean. The turbo RV was up to 75-80 once or twice, where I had to speed up to get around a merging semi or something like that. Can't remember if it was towing anything or not. Stock tires for 3rd gen dually Econolines are 215s.
Yeah, that's my thought. It's still pretty cheap on RockAuto, $99ish. It was $90ish in 2022, before the crazy inflation. O'Reilly charges $176 for it. It needs $24 (2x $12) in extra fittings to attach 5/16" hose, plus extra hose to point the barbs upward like you're supposed to installation...
Yeah, I suspect it'll need a better transmission cooler. I think it might be doing better than the condenser was, but it probably won't be enough if it's 80-100 degrees and towing.
I'm not towing the bug right because I will be fetching my cargo trailer from Yuma. It was 71 degrees for the high...
Good to know. I'd probably not want GV then, at least not for my current use. I'm often off road, in pretty rough places occasionally.
The C6 RV had a LONG 2 piece driveshaft, 176" wheelbase. The van I have now has a very long 1 piece driveshaft with E4OD, 138" wheelbase.
You need to come to a complete stop before moving in reverse. No sloppy quick shifting while still in motion. It seems like the instructions mention that?
It's good advice in general, because it's h.ard the transmission if you don't.
You wil destroy a GV also in reverse if enabled. GV will sell you the electrics if you call and order.
I bought a c6 new old stock one made in the late 80s that was missing the electric stuff and a few other parts, and GV sold new stuff to go with it.
then i never installed it on the RV so...
I made a junkyard run. A 1990 E150 got put out shortly after I went a bit over a month ago.
Spent $88. Not bad for what I got.
I grabbed:
1) ac condenser
2) overdrive switch
3) wiper switch with intermittent computer/relay
4) complete grill, no broken screw down tabs
The overdrive switch...
I might cave and buy another Hayden 779. It's big and thick for the price: about $115 shipped from RockAuto. 11x13x1.7 inches.
That's what I put on the RV after the C6 rebuild and it did well for the RV's size and the C6 TC slippage.
At least it won't be too messy to change the cooler in the...
Hmm. I drove out to get the front alignment this afternoon, about 80-82 degrees.
The transmission got up to 180-190 when I got back, with stop and go and backing into the driveway. The cooler pipe near the exit was pretty freaking hot to the touch.
Checked the fluid and found it not even on...
Re: the new $35 transmission cooler, I left 1* reviews for the seller and the item for it being 3/8 not 5/16 as advertised. Seller messaged me with a typical long "sorry" message and refunded it.
re: the $43 sending unit, they usually go for $120 shipped! it is missing the shower head but...
