    Maxtow gauges

I see. Is there a way to test the probe with a hair dryer or heat gun ?

    Maxtow gauges

looked up the gauge on their website and the dial portion has single digit numbers so that’s probably only what the x100 is for. The digital says “quick glance” reading so seems it just gives you the first two digits. Kind of cool I suppose once you get used to it? But I agree it’s slightly odd...

    Joined the IDI crowd again

Right on welcome back. How do you handle the cross threaded injector - just clean up the threads with a tap or..?

    Maxtow gauges

Is it the one saying “16”? Kinda tough to make out the pic for me on a phone maybe another pic will help. The dial gauge seems to be at that bottom though… I’m not familiar with these gauges personally

6.9 IDI valve train questions + head gasket job

Is a weld nut a specialty part or just a nut that’s welded to allow bolt to thread? I did an idi water pump this past winter but never removed the cover so not sure what the interior looks like. I’m curious what the bolts thread into from the factory and how your situation arose. Figured it was...

    Pre combustion chamber crack advice

Godspeed, makes sense and for a truck you’ll have forever it’s the right call IMO. Love how these trucks are the opposite of disposable

6.9 IDI valve train questions + head gasket job

Does that mean your springs are “heavier” than spec? I’m not familiar but possibly recall reading about different spring weights

New 6.9 IDI - Deciding if worth resurrecting or not

not sure on that and hopefully someone else will chime in. My assumption as a non-pro (replaced injectors a few months ago on a tdi but never 7.3) is it’s fine for cleaning threads and engine/head surfaces (think these have threaded injector) but possibly worthless for anything else. They pop at...

New 6.9 IDI - Deciding if worth resurrecting or not

forget the specifics but it’s year-dependent and this is the “older style?”. If I understand your issue correct I recall running into the same problem when I redid mine (on an 88) and had to reuse that single cap bc my kit from Napa didn’t have the proper one. haven’t had issues… The custom...

    Recycle oil

Sorry I’m sure this is talked about in other threads but gonna ask it here again for continuity - can we run synth oil for WMO or is must be conventional?

sticky equus gauge needle + gauge talk

Checked out some of the different options mentioned and VDO seems to be reasonably priced (under $80ish shipped) and available from summit racing, they have a classic look too which is nice nothing fancy. Auber has some very interesting product offerings, for other industrial/manufacturing...

sticky equus gauge needle + gauge talk

Thanks on the replies, I’m not opposed to getting better gauges Are the “better” or more expensive dial gauges more resistant to sticking though? And it worth going to digital - surely digital will be prone to other problems

sticky equus gauge needle + gauge talk

Have cheap equus aftermarket dial gauges for voltage, oil pressure, and water temp on an aluminum dash cluster, they work fine for the most part. I replaced the water temp sender and gauge 4-5 years ago with the same that was there since sender was dead. The oil gauge works fine but has started...

    Recycle oil

BD and WVO don’t handle low temps as well as Dino diesel. BD you can just add more anti-gel but wvo basically always necessitates some sort of pre heating Mentioning bc @Olds64 is in OKc

    Anyone else?

You get this when following a link from the forum email? I tried on an iPhone with Firefox as default browser and it works.. I confirmed the email link first starts out as an “insecure http” link but then redirects into a “secure https” link. It’s just annoying modern internet stuff that will...

New 6.9 IDI - Deciding if worth resurrecting or not

Yeah for me it definitely is, on both the ‘88 idi and ‘02 tdi. Both engines are strong runners, never have issues starting up on functional glowplug systems and don’t smoke more than a second or two on startup. Idi goes through maybe a qt of oil every 500-700 miles, probably a mix of leak and...

New 6.9 IDI - Deciding if worth resurrecting or not

That’s about how much oil I put in… more than I’d like but… any oil consumption below 1 qt per ~600 mile is within ford/IH spec. I’m usually running Oreilly or Walmart 15/40 fwiw

    Pre combustion chamber crack advice

I’m not an expert but other comments on here say it’s not an issue unless the cracking goes beyond the fire ring. Check this thread for starters. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/cracked-valve-seats-and-pre-cups.84025/
