Come to think of it I’m not positive the wheel cylinders I put in are the 3” variety. It’s possible one or both are 2.5” since replaced them separately.
Pricing out brake components last night and rock auto is quite a good site, their variety is unmatched and have a wide range of price points. I...
Quick background is I ordered and received these parts back in March. Checked the order contained the correct parts when they arrived but didn’t look in extreme detail.
Wasn’t able to R and R until this past week but needed to get it done.
Ended up getting replacements from Oreilly over the...
My truck came from an Idaho farmer. The clutch pedal/bracket was pretty beat up and the pedal needed to be pushed in really deep to engage. The truck also had captains chairs added in, so even with the driver seat all the way forward it was still a bit of a reach to engage the clutch pedal...
What is all this crud? This is a new out of packaging left tie rod from Bronco Graveyard. This boot looks plastic and there’s all this cracked red waxy stuff everywhere. Can I use this part?
Thanks Goat very helpful.
Did a test where you apply the parking brake halfway and see how that adjusts the brake pedal feel. That made the brakes feel better. Am likely gonna replace rear shoes and hardware. Went down to adjust rear brakes and couldn’t get the driver side shoes to rub on the...
Yeah, you're not wrong. Kind of grasping at straws here to figure what else can be done or tweaked. Obviously the vac pump is a high failure part but I've no vac numbers to suggest that's the problem here. I've elongated the booster pushrod by 4 quarter turns so far and will see how it does.
May...
all the original symptoms persist: pedal starts out “normal” in the morning and gradually gets more firm, firm pedal after sitting overnight.
I’m now looking into rear brake adjustments and master cylinder/booster pushrod adjustments.
The brakes have always been much better on the second push...
Did exactly what Goat mentioned. Didn’t see anything irregular with he vac numbers while driving, inHg never dropped below about 19-20 and the pedal did firm up a bit.
Letting the truck sit for a bit now to see how vac numbers do with the engine off.
Will do some gravity bleeding to the brakes...
Roger that @Cubey. That’s the one I got and think at this point the only sustainable way to diagnosis thing further is to run the vac gauge into the cab while driving.
The pedal changes feel throughout the day and will be “normal” in the morning and get more firm as it gets warmer. So maybe...
@IDIBRONCO I was actually mistaken when checking for vac at that line. There is suction coming from it but it’s quite faint, since I was comparing it to the bigger line going to the booster.
I’ve since plugged it up but hasn’t really changed the pedal much if at all. So still assuming there’s a...
4.10 NA never failed me yet.
Looking around to fix vacuum leaks and an old 1.9 tdi glow plug laying around was the only thing that’d readily fit into this open line. It’s only “temporary”
Very possible since cruise doesn’t work on this truck. From what I’ve read the vac system is only used for hvac, brakes, and cruise.
The dash blower only really works on the defroster which is another possible symptom of vac leak so things may be starting to add up here
Here’s that line that looks like it was plugged but is no longer plugged. Anyone k ow what it’s for?
It’s the middle, left line at the vacuum junction.
It appears the middle, right side of this junction goes into the coffee can at the driver side fender well area
Okay so haven't done anything really on the truck/brake system but have just been researching how to test the vacuum system.
Regarding testing the vacuum booster check valve, is it most common to use a tee fitting at the brake booster, to allowing hooking it up to the vacuum gauge? From what I...
Removed the AC belt last week without any problems. Was just looking at Josh Bear's thread about compression testing and saw the ac belt was removed on that engine too haha
Plus I’ve a habit of forgetting chocks around and driving off but that’s purely operator error. Have considered putting a long lanyard or rope around them to be able to remove them from the cab but..
Yeah wasn’t worried about the firm pedal initially and was just keeping an eye on things. The parking brake works OK but not perfectly and one time the truck rolled back a few feet and into a tree while I was starting the engine with clutch in… so it is a safety concern. Usually chock the tires...
Thanks for the suggestions this morning. I swapped the booster last night and it didn’t really change anything. So… will keep looking into things.
Brake is still firm at startup after sitting overnight. Not sure if there’s some environmental thing happening now it’s hot out, but just driving on...
The AC doesn’t blow cold and I don’t care enough to fix it. Seems the belt is loose too, and want to trouble shoot some engine/belt clattering, and I don’t care enough to fix it. Can one just chop off the belt without worrying or will this impact other belts? It seems kind of non intuitive to...
That’s a great idea and I understand the importance of that now.
Was able to fish up the receipt at the store and turns out the booster is reman so less a surprise it’s going out now.
The brake quality has deteriorated dramatically in the last 20 or so miles driven. Was starting to double guess...
