    Trans fluid question

FWIW, routing the fluid through the radiator in really cold environments does nothing to heat it up unless the radiator is equipped with shutters or a winter front. The ambient air temps keeps the fluid at the bottom of the radiator tank too cold. Blocking it off is the only way to get it warm...

Rotor and pad suggestions to improve braking

I'll have to look for the actual tsb number. I only remember the truck because it was an odd duck. Customer came in complaining about the brakes squeaking and not working well when loaded. Old pads, and shoes were well worn and rotors/drums were below machining spec, so another tech installed...

Can anybody tell me what this noise is?

It sounds like it corroborates more with wheel speed and tire rotation, over driveline/engine. I'd double and triple check your brakes, wheels, and tires for anything broken or rubbing.

Rotor and pad suggestions to improve braking

We use wagner pads in the shop, mainly the thermoquiet line, but I've also used their severe duty line as well. We install the cheapest coated rotors, as most are junk steel and rust easily. I don't like drilled rotors, as they seem to crack over time. We have a customer who had a 93 f250 with...

What's a good aftermarket gauge cluster?

Disclaimer: must have money. Isspros are great gauges, but aren't cheap. I'd guess there's 1000 bucks in just gauges shown there.

    DB2 vs DB4 pump

That's all you needed to say. That you don't know it and the paperwork is long gone. Nobody thinks less of you for not knowing that. No hands need to be held. I've spent over an hour looking and reading forum posts all over the web. The 370 nozzle seems to be a generic term used by the cummins...

Is that a splitter knob of some sort I see on the shifter?

    DB2 vs DB4 pump

Your link literally has not one spec on it. Not one. Even the part number they listed is for the copper crush washer, not a nozzle..... The only steps I see is where you state to machine the nozzle diameter down. Nothing else. For instance, what psi did you set the crack pressure at? Did you...

    DB2 vs DB4 pump

Wait, you put a DI nozzle into an IDI? What was your hole angle and how many holes/diameter of the holes?

    DB2 vs DB4 pump

Every rear engine powered school bus uses a hydraulic fan like that, as well as most pusher rv/motorhomes. I'd consider them semi-reliable. Less reliable then a mechanical fan in a front engine vehicle, but that's because in a rear engine setting the fan is used a lot more because of no natural...

    Gear oil as fuel

I'm not sure if I'd use gear oil as fuel in a piston engine. Not only is it much thicker then diesel fuel, gear oil has a lot of additives in it for anti-wear on sliding metal on metal surfaces. IIRC the military found out the hard way that burning waste oil in a piston engine isn't all peaches...

    E4OD post-mortem, rebuild and upgrades

Have you tested the controller? If the shuttle valve is moving freely, the clutch engages with an air test, and the solenoid swap didn't work(assuming one of the solenoids was good), I'd make sure the controller is functioning correctly next.

    Timing Question---Procedure

Ground it to the same fuel line you're clamped to. Sand a whole inch of paint off if you have to. It doesn't need grounded to the truck per say, the "ground" clip needs to have a good connection to the inner ring of the transducer, so that the voltage spike produced can be read by the machine...

    Timing Question---Procedure

What equipment are you using? Some have an offset input that you have to set or the meter won't be reading accurately. I've found when the line isn't clean enough, or a bad ground, I'll get a low and varying rpm reading and the timing indicated will jump around a lot. If it's okay, the rpm and...

    1990 F-350 4x4 Ambulance Revival/Long Term Build - "Betty"

That gauge panel sure is a nice improvement. I'm impressed with it and somewhat envious.

    6.9 head studs?

Plan was to use a spiral bottoming tap, with a tap extension, and vacuuming/blowing the hole out with compressed air after. The extension OD measures a hair over 7/16, so I felt I wouldn't have fitment issues doing that. I've got all that in the shop already, so the cost is nothing. Yes, you're...

    “Partial” Glow Plug Controller Bypass

Now I see what you're doing. Your plugs are manual, but your using the controller to power lights to give you pointers as to when to turn them on or off. You can run them more or less however you see fit. Still overcomplicated in my books, but if it's works for you and is how you want it...

    6.9 head studs?

I'm in the same boat. I'll be turboing my 6.9 soon as well, and have mixed thoughts about studs. Don't get me wrong, I think studs are a good improvement over the bolts. My original plan was a 1-1 swap of bolts to studs when I install the turbo, leaving the heads and gaskets intact. The...

    “Partial” Glow Plug Controller Bypass

I think all of this is just extra steps to what should be a simple process. I don't know how long you can hold a zd9 on without it having issues. Everything that I've read is that it is a 6 volt plug and is NOT self-limiting. If that's all the case, I don't think they should be lit for minutes...

Sludge/water and oil seperator for ibc tote

Looks good. I'd also suggest keeping the 2 inch out of the tee, then going to the half inch ball valve. You mentioned something about a conical tank, but then it looks like your pickup is a foot off the bottom of the tote? Or would you still have a pickup off the bottom of the tank even if it...

    The building of Beagle Pup.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. You know your needs, and this truck just doesn't fit them. I'm actually looking for something similar, but in crew cab form. I already have 2 single cab trucks, so I don't want a 3rd, otherwise I'd be all over yours. I had a CC IH truck spotted last week...

Which antifreeze? Changing to Aluminum radiator

Regular green. Everyone seems to hate it because it require maintenance with test strips and additives. But unless you're using an egr cooler with super high temps, regular green is what I recommend. Champion also recommends regular green with their aluminum radiators...

    6.9idi head retorqueing.

What if you're turboing a 6.9 truck? Leave the bolts and chance gasket failure or would you try and remove the bolts to swap for studs?

    E4OD post-mortem, rebuild and upgrades

I love the work bench too. What kind of paper did you use to cover it though? Looks coated of some sort, almost like butcher paper.

    Somebody better buy this truck!

Could someone explain to me why a seller puts 1234 in the price of the item but then specifies a price in the description? I've seen it a lot lately. That last one for instance put 1234 in the price, and then asked 7500obo. Then in the ad they admit "could use glow plugs". Why wouldn't you put...
