    86 Diesel Tach needle

I would look for a tach instrument panel at the junk yard. The individual gauges are removable, so you could swap the complete panel or just the gauge to keep the odometer reading correct. I buy panels if I come across one to have as a spare.

    Pulling engine and trans together?

I'm impressed that you got it out with the starter motor in place.

Am I dead in the water

It would be a PITA to clean the mating surface of the block and not get debris down the hole with the gear sitting there. I would lay a straightedge across the block and c-clamp it to the gear before removing the gear. As stated before, rotate to TDC on compression stroke prior to removing the...

Weird issue 700 miles from home

The water pump has a weep hole that drains coolant that gets past the seal. I have had two Motorcraft pumps fail that way. With no fan it should be easy to check. With my block heater plugged in the coolant pressurizes enough to eventually start showing at the weep hole.

    6.9 IDI Build

Nice looking engine. I painted my parts separately before assembly and regret that I didn't paint my valley pan.

    Newbie intro and radiator questions

I purchased a copper radiator from NAPA with a lifetime warranty. It wasn't cheap. I used the warranty three times in two years as the top tank seam kept failing. After replacing the 13# CAP WITH A 7# I haven't had a leak in four years.

    86 F250 6.9 IDI Smoking!!

With the bed off you could check the condition of the fuel tank pickups. The "shower head" sometimes breaks apart and you run out of fuel at 1/4 tank.

Solidstate GP controler, cold start system

Should be plug and play. The new controller will replace the existing one and the wiring harness fits the same. You may loose some coolant when you remove the controller. The cold advance is controlled by a sensor in the head just behind the thermostat so it should continue to work as it did before.

    Adding photos from attachment files

My problem is when I click add attachments I don't see my attachments on file here. I am sent to choices from my computer. My old computer had all the photos and scanned documents but my new computer does not. Before the site change I got a drop down menu of previously posted attachments to...

    1986 Stock Gauges or Autometer

https://www.oilburners.net/threads/86-f350-a-pillar-guages.75255/#post-883154 This thread has some pictures of my gauge install. I cut 2" abs pipe on an angle for a better view.

    Adding photos from attachment files

I see I have a file of attachments from prior posts. Is there a way to attach one to a new post? Before the site change when I clicked add attachments I got a menu of previously posted attachments. I guess these still exist, I just need a way to add them to a post. Thanks.

    1986 Stock Gauges or Autometer

I believe the '86 gauges actually are better then the later ones. There are no numbers, but they change with increased temp, pressure, etc. I have aftermarket Isspro water temp, oil pressure, boost, and pyrometer, and my factory gauges are hooked up also. The fuel gauge is not too reliable...

    Water Leak Into Cab

+1 what riphip said. The bullnose trucks have the large louvered cowl that lets lots of debris in and it eventually blocks the drains.

    Obliterated a deer..

I hit a deer in my '67 VW bus. I was only going 45mph or so on a back road. I thought it was coming through the windshield. There isn't much between the driver and the outside in these things, just the front sheet metal. Drivers side was pushed back and headlight pointed whacky.

    Replacing front leaf springs

The shackle has a bushing that is probably clapped out. I drilled out the rubber then cut the sleeve with a Sawzall and bent it in to remove. I did the same with pivot bushings. I pressed them in with a large bolt and washers. A ball joint press would be handy.

Converting to Electronic glow plug control

I would stick to the spade connectors if that is what you have now. You would need to change all the ends on your harness. As was mentioned by Mcrobb the spade are rated for the '86 and earlier systems. If your current controller is still working and not coming on after your engine is warmed up...

Converting to Electronic glow plug control

Since you have a push button option you could run the "improved" version and if it died you could still start your truck. I assume in fail mode it wouldn't be in the on mode.

Converting to Electronic glow plug control

The 6.9 used this type of controller. It threads into the drivers side head at the firewall using a 1/2" npt hole that is plugged on 7.3s. The base of the controller is in contact with the coolant and is only supposed to energize if the coolant is cold. The glow plug harness plugs into the top...

    Brake trouble

You may have to clean up the anchor plate grooves if they are rusty and apply some disc brake grease or anti-seize so the caliper is free to slide on the pins. The pins have a wide side and a narrow side. I believe the wide side goes toward the caliper.

That's the wrench I used. I had to file it down to fit. I cut a slot in the 5/8 side to fit over the fuel line to R&R injector lines.

    I need Ford tooling P/Ns

My kit is Rotunda TKIT-1983-D6.9. This must be the first kit for 6.9. The numbers may be updated for later years and 7.3 IDI, but the tools would be the same I assume. Somewhere I have a photo of the contents.
