I've posted mine on here a time or two in the past. Its a Tuffy Console, setup for installing a single DIN stereo. I originally had a Galaxy CB installed, but have since upgraded to 75W Ham radio for desert race chase truck duty.
While we're talking belts and tensioners:
I picked up a shock absorber tensioner for my truck, but it looks like it won't work on my bracket. I can drill the holes along the AC compressor no problem, but it looks like it will not bolt onto the bracket (open spring old style tensioner) due to a...
I've used copper coat spray with good results on metal head gaskets and on timing cover gaskets on old Toyota 22R/7MGTE engines. I'd think a thin coat would be fine. I was taught to allow it to dry completely before installation...YMMV
There is a plastic pin kit in the motor that acts as a jam protection. The pins likely broke and are your issue. I *THINK* this is the kit that works...
I rolled the dice on a new DB Electric starter from Amazon. I took a few minutes to install it last night. Holy crap! I either didn't realize how slow the old one had become or this new one is badass. No core charge, so someday I'll rebuild the original maybe. Either way for $100 I'm happy...
Disc conversion on a Sterling 10.25, Russ? And I'm not looking forward to those temperatures this summer. Here in Las Vegas, its miserably hot from May- October
Can't mount the CDR on a pressurized tube after the turbo. It must be on the "suction" side between the turbo and the filter in order to work properly. I'd love to keep the oil out of the IC, but it doesn't seem to hurt it any.
Nice write up. Hope it provides years of good service. I talked with the boys at Griffin radiator at SEMA about making a good aluminum radiator for these old trucks. They will custom make anything, but it won't be cheap. Sounds like this is a nice compromise.
Many years ago I had an ATS 088 Turbo system and mocked up this intake, using a power stroke downpipe and an AEM Dryflow filter. I welded a plate to the tube and mounted the CDR and ran it to a banks adapter on the IP cover. Worked great for the time I had it. It all got changed in favor of...
You just getting the one from Amazon that's under $100? I like that option as there's no core so I can keep the original around and rebuild at my leisure.
I've got healthy batteries and brand new cables, and still am experiencing intermittent slow cranking. I guess it's time to either service or replace the original starter on my truck.
There's a local place that claims to be able to rebuild and service the original Mitsubishi starter. I've...
Finished off my battery cable upgrade with a new auxiliary fuse panel for my accessories. It's attached to the factory fuse panel cover with some HD velcro, and there's enough slack in the wires to easily move it out of the way to access the factory fuses.
Installed a new lift pump, with new rubber fuel hose from the hard line to the pump and a new olive on the hard line at the filter head. Got a good pump from the local IH Dealer. No autozone junk here!
Also installed new 2/0 and 3/0 battery cables from custombatterycables.com. Had to shape the...
I've done tons of gear setups on Toyota 4x4s, this truck was supposed be the one I DIDN'T have to regear
You'll know what to look for when you disassemble. You'll likely find pitted or damaged bearings that will require replacement. Really, you should replace them anyhow since you're taking it...
So I finally got back on this today. I was due for a rear diff oil change anyway, and wanted a closer look at things before I had Towcat ship me a cluster.
I have a PML diff cover that has a drain and fill plug and allows for an extra quart or so of capacity. I drained the oil and heard chunks...
I fought the same issues with mine before I figured out that it was all in the disc. I'd just pull it and see which disc you have. Seriously.
If you look at the pics I posted earlier, the 10 spring disc is the standard duty that is currently in the truck and working well.
The 8 spring disc is...
I'm tied up with xmas/New Years and family but should be available the first week of the Year. Let's shoot for that if you want to compare timing from my Snap-On setup against yours.
While not as affordable as the Parts stores, I've found PSC Steering parts to be hard to beat. I will like call on them when it's time for a new pump and PS box.
