    Water separator cleanout and test

I have been using the same Racor F/W separator head for nearly 30 years, but mounted it near the stock filter. It has a small priming hand pump on top, similar to the old caterpillar tractors, and will pull from the tank just by itself. The filters are expensive but worth it. It pulls from the...

Yes, mods to the carb on a blow thru system, like diesels are a blow thru system, are necessary, or it will blow fuel out every vent hole in the casting going to atmosphere pressure. However, a suck thru system does not require modification and will pressurize both fuel and air into a gas...

I saw that also. I assumed they were speaking in general terms to both gas and diesel engines, because of the entire context of the ad. The complete instructions describe in detail how to turn the pump up for this diesel application. They sold kits for carbureted cars as there was very few...

So I went to the file, and found the original paperwork for the turbo kit available from the early 80's. HP gains are stated as +80 to +155. I am assuming the 155 increase is with an Inter cooler. Considering stock HP around 185, this would put you between 265 and 340 on a 6.9. The Turbo in...

    Approximate estimate on turbo install

reasonable time is somewhere between 6 and 12 hours if no bolts break and it all fits properly. If you are doing an intercooler, a few more. I would shop around for some one that has done a few. Good luk!

    RE-TORQUEING ARP STUDS 6.9 TURBO-HELP

that was it. simple fix. I didn't have to re-torque the studs. They were good. it was the bottom bolt on the t stat housing; about 1/2 turn. Of course it's behind the filter support plate, so that had to move out of the way.... thanks

Understand that. I'm just agreeing you can assemble/make a kit yourself to meet that goal. Good luck. Happy to share info from past experiences. Did my conversion in early 90's before there were 7.3's from the factory.

No HP estimate, although I differ to your stated goal of more than stock. Way more. I can only compare to other trucks I have that have pulled the same trailers and loads up all the same hills, and the notes I made with subtle changes done in the name of improvement. I.E. boost, gear, and RPM...

I have swapped a few turbos into mine over the last 25 years. You can build it easily if you can weld cast iron. Use whatever flange fits the turbo you choose. Crossover from passenger side at the back bottom feeds the old outlet of the drivers side. These WERE originally designed for these...

    Valve clearance issue

Correct on all points, except about the rocker arms. A good shop can also adjust stem length and re cut for the keepers if necessary. The lifters will adjust for these minor differences; the rockers need to operate in the designed geometry. I have a similar cam to the R&D, and a decked block...

    Valve clearance issue

If you are sending your block out for one sleeve, they can measure deck height at that time and tell you how much is gone. Usually .010" will clean them up. Next, check everything in the cylinder with clay and light valve springs installed in a mock up assembly and rolling it through all cycles...

    Coolant leaking from...somewhere

IDIBRONCO I was referring to a post I tried to start for my own truck. It does not have a dot by it in the listings, so I must not have done it right. 70 views and one response. Going back to look at the truck again today. Looked thru the threads. Seems 80-85 lbs is the torque value for studs on...

    Coolant leaking from...somewhere

This is what it took to find it in mine. Block off plates. The machine shop that bored for me did not do this the first time, and after I assembled and installed, it still pressurized the system. The machine shop had also provided a new set of heads. I thought one might be cracked in the port...

    Coolant leaking from...somewhere

Since I'm dealing with a coolant issue I read thru this whole thread. I went thru a similar long term diagnosis I have not seen mentioned, even tho your symptoms point to a cylinder pinhole down low in the block. You will pressurize the cooling system even before warm up is complete as it...

    RE-TORQUEING ARP STUDS 6.9 TURBO-HELP

I have a question for those using studs on these antiques. After pulling a loaded 3 horse trailer on Saturday afternoon, when I started the truck Sunday afternoon, there was coolant dripping from the passenger side at front of head. No apparent hose leaks I could identify. I parked it, and took...

    Air-water CAC/intercooler on an IDI?

Back then it was leaded gas and flat tappet cams. If you were good about oil changes, 100,000 was good life before a rebuild. Metals and machine work have advanced tremendously since then. 360 was a good engine, but 390 was a better choice. And of course, there is no replacement for...

    IDI SWAP

Do u already have an engine? what transmission are you going to use? I have a 7.3 available with turbo and C6 flywheel. One wire to make run. I used old coil wire for that. Manual glow control is best. New glow harness and some motor mount parts as well.

    Air-water CAC/intercooler on an IDI?

It surprised me as well when I went to look at it. The guy was a logger from Stayton Ore. Into the Cascade mountains everyday, and back home. It was in good shape and the price was good for a kid out of hi school. The 360 was gutless to begin with. Imagine it with hi mileage!!

    Crewcab 4X4 conversion.

I have had a Dana Trac Lok in the front axle since 1995. No issues, 3:54 gear sets. Huge difference in 4WD with the weight on the front. Stock limited slip in back.

    Air-water CAC/intercooler on an IDI?

Thanx! I bought it in 1974 with 140000 on the odo. 360 was stock gasser, but soon replaced with 390GT spec'd engine. Then along came a 460 and trans... and in 93 it got the current 6.9 with a turbo system without the intercooler. I designed it to fit with very little mods to the front end. Over...

    Air-water CAC/intercooler on an IDI?

I did that to add coolant capacity to slow the gradual increase on a hard pull under load. Usually reach the top of the grade before max temp is reached now. Air to air intercooler drops temps from 160 to 80 on a hard pull.

    Electric fuel pump

I have been using this carter in combination with the factory lift pump for 29 years with no issues. Powered by the old coil wire when the key is on. Allows easy priming of the fuel system thru the Schrader valve. FWIW

Gear Vendors Install on 7.3 C6 with 4.10s

So I did something similar many years ago. A turbo'd intercooled 6.9 / C6 with the gear vendor unit at the rear of the trans, but in front of the remote NP205 T case. I had to move the case back about 2 1/2 inches, eliminate the jackshaft completely, and use the u joint for a common connection...

    Custom 60G glow plugs

I have an electric lift pump in line with the stock lift pump. If the lift pump fails, the electric one will keep the engine running but at reduced power, probably cuz I power it from the old coil wire at about 8 volts. It's good for priming to the factory filter schrader valve, which is the...
