    7.3 IDI Noise

It sounds normal to me as well. From what you describe though, it almost sounds like the timing is too advanced. If it is too advanced, you will hear a slight knock very similar to injector knock. Rock

NJ to ID - Road trip time!

Hey Stu, Congratulations on the move. You seem to have most everything covered, but I will also recommend a tow strap, fuses,Jerry can of fuel, and some fuel line with clamps just for kicks. Also, between me and you, bring some............ :yell:ether:popcorn........ Just in case. It has gotten...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Yup, it is insane. As it is now, I don't really joy ride anymore because it costs 30 bucks just to cruise around town. I go down to MD to fill up the transfer tank with off-road diesel, but I may have to get more fuel storage, because even getting bulk fuel is ridiculously expensive right now...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I totally understand that. Diesel is 4.15 here, so I have to drive down to MD to fill up. It's only 3.25 down there............... ...........no thanks Mr. Governor. Rock

So what did you do with your truck today?

Thanks, I appreciate that. You were right, and this truck will definitely be more practical for me than the beagle pup was. I am looking forward to driving it home next weekend :Thumbs Up , and hopefully that goes without surprise. Rock

So what did you do with your truck today?

I went down to VA today, and made a deal on this 93 f350 7.3 NA,zf5, Dana 60,3.55s. I am super excited about the truck, and will be driving it home next weekend after I get temp tags. It's already got a GN hitch and has a custom rear drop bumper. It was originally a Texas truck, and the only...

    Fuel Pump Woes

I'm gonna go ahead and pickup that mic here. To be perfectly frank, you get what you pay for. Speaking from experience, those cheap little inline pumps are not big enough, and a lot of folks assume it don't make a difference, then badmouth e pumps. The same can be said about mechanical pumps...

    Fuel Pump Woes

@Big Bart , I was able to "PROPERLY" install my Holley red using factory drilled holes in the frame like I said, a constant duty solenoid, fuse block, wire loom and heat shrink connectors, as well as a weather proof connector on the pump like @Cubey showed. Only took me about 2 hours to do and...

    Fuel Pump Woes

I wasn't trying to imply mechanical pumps are bad in any way, in fact I run dozens of pieces of heavy equipment that use mechanical pumps and haven't been a problem, however, to even the scales here, when the mechanical pumps go the diaphragm fails and pumps all that fuel into the oil pan and...

    Fuel Pump Woes

I completely disagree. It's really a matter of opinion more than anything when it comes to which is best. I'll say this, if you gotta prime the lines you would eat those words, lol. To be clear, I never use an E pump to mask air intrusion, however as I have previously said, when air intrusion...

    Fuel Pump Woes

It's nowhere near as low as it looks. And my truck spends quite a bit of time off-road in in fields, so I wouldn't have bothered if it was too low. Eventually I will make a skid plate for it, but just to give an idea, it only hangs downs about 3 inches lower than the transfer case skid plate, so...

Fuel heater wire to activate electric lift pump relay?

That's were I tapped into it as well Rock

    Extended Idle Time.....

I am old school, and was brought up being taught that the single hardest thing on a diesel is starting it up. I regularly high idle the engines for excessive periods of time, so they burn a little cleaner, and don't wet stack from all that unburnt fuel. If you idle a diesel for say an hour, on...

Fuel heater wire to activate electric lift pump relay?

I learned the hard way, DO NOT USE starter solenoids. The are NOT constant duty rated. I was having a lot of trouble with starter solenoids, then I just went and bought a constant duty solenoid at napa, and has worked flawlessly since. The solenoid gets power straight off the passenger battery...

    Fuel Pump Woes

I bought that whole assembly for under $30 at rural and $5 for an extra cartridge. They are $5 at rural king, but they are a little more at other stores like TSC at least in my area. I welded up a very simple bracket out of 2 pieces of angle line back to back and drilled 4 holes for U bolts...

    Fuel Pump Woes

I used an aftermarket golden rod water separator made for diesel transfer tanks. The replacement cartridges are only $5 which is really nice. Rock

Holley red for life. My setup is basically the same as @Cubey showed, but I mounted my water separator before the pump in place of the inline filters. Rock

Trying to upgrade DD on a budget

I don't think I understand why you would lose 4x4.. the only flywheel/clutch issues would be swapping the single mass flywheel out of your truck for a dual mass or there are ways to reuse the single mass with the zf5 clutch. Rock

Trying to upgrade DD on a budget

You can also use a zf5 that came in a 460 truck. IIRC, you just have to drill out the correct holes for the IDI block, but it's an aluminum bellhousing, so that shouldn't be too hard at all. I just finished going from a 4 speed in my 6.9 4x4 to zf5 out of an f super duty/450. The f super duty...

Getting harder to start. Slow cranks then faster cranks.

I don't know how cold it is in your area this time of year, but after driving 40 miles, that truck should definitely start up immediately with no gps if it gets good cranking speed, and definitely if it's only like an hour. It does sound like your starter has been on it's way out from what you...

    Project Baby Blue

So, for those who think that IDIs chewing through shell rotella oil is a myth....... It ain't. She went through 4 quarts of rotella within 400 miles, and it's not really leaking anywhere. Back when I had my international, just puttin around hauling hay it went through 2 quarts of rotella in like...
