    She just... died....

I found a video where this guy attached clear fuel lines from the lift pump to the fuel filter and the return line from the injectors so he could see if there were air bubbles. I like this idea and will probably do it. Can't seem to figure out where or why this suddenly started happening.

    She just... died....

Reviving this because: 1.I hate to leave things without an answer/solution (sorry) 2.The problem came back I drove it quite a bit after bypassing the water separator and everything was fine but it sat for several weeks maybe a month and I drove it yesterday and it died again. Last time it died...

    She just... died....

Update: I couldn't find a coupler at the parts store or west marine (odd) near me that was 7/16 to 7/16 so I just removed the "in" fuel line and looped the "out" fuel line from the metal line to the "in" metal line. Fired it up, started pretty good, used some pliers to push the schrader valve...

    She just... died....

So I bought a 3/8 adaptor thinking that would work especially based off this from another thread Mine appears to be 7/16in. though. I'm wondering why it's bigger and if this is a problem too like someone put fuel line on the metal lines that was too big...

    She just... died....

Despite the small changes I made it didn't help. It still idles a little rough and on the first start fires up for a sec then dies. Based on my knowledge it's an air intrusion happening somewhere. What are some of the main causes of this? I'm going to try bypassing the water separator with a...

    She just... died....

I went back into it and noticed a small leak on the return line from the last injector back up the fuel filter. I replaced this and also replaced the fuel filter. So far it seems good, drove it around just for like 10 mins. Seems like it must be some kind of air intrusion or issue with fuel...

Truck died when switching gears, can’t figure out why!

Reviving this semi-old thread. On page one you said you left ATF in it over night but this didn't end up fixing the problem. Sounds like you did a very similar thing here but instead of ATF used Diesel Klean and replaced the filter and then this seemed to fix it. Right?

    She just... died....

I figured this thing couldn’t be that complex. I’ve taken it apart and cleaned it before. So in order to find out if it was water I should have captured what first came out, haha. Good news I guess is that there didn’t appear to be water in the fuel that I did capture.

    She just... died....

But I thought the purpose in the plunger was that the water would come out not just the fuel

    She just... died....

I knew that was an issue and the idle did seem a little rough so bypassing it is a good idea. Still curious how it works and why it seems like fuel just flows out when I pull the plunger.

    She just... died....

Alright, was out of town for work sorry for the delay on this one and thanks for the feedback.\ I turned it on tonight and everything was fine until I pulled the water separator plunger and lots of fluid came out the line and then the truck shut off. Assuming two things, air in the system or an...

    She just... died....

I was driving home on Saturday evening and at a red light thought the truck seemed like it was idling kind of low and rough but didn't think too much of it. 10 minutes later I was driving downhill put the clutch in getting ready to stop at a stop sign. I rode with the clutch in for like 30...

    A/C belt removed. Thank you!

    Whats this leaking now?

Replaced the water pump, thermostat, and v belts and no more leaking! I found this guys video very helpful just in case anyone reads through this and needs to swap the water pump: For Thermostat it's pretty straightforward anyways but if you need help this is good...

    Whats this leaking now?

It's funny how they say that right? My assumption is that it's because they can't plug something into it that tells them exactly whats wrong. I would have thought this truck was easier to work on than a new one. I know my guy up here doesn't really do the work himself anymore because of age and...

    Whats this leaking now?

Yeah, could be but I remember it pooling there on the frame too. I think I’m just a little salty because he pawned the work off on someone and didn’t do it himself and then just used the magic in a bottle. No offense to mechanics out there. If you’re a mechanic and on this forum you’re probably...

    Whats this leaking now?

I ordered a motorcraft thermostat and gasket from Rockauto arriving Monday and I'm picking up a new water pump and gasket from Napa tomorrow. I'll report back sometime next week! Hoping this solves my issues. Idk how the magic in a bottle stuff solved the problem last time. I continue to be...

    Whats this leaking now?

Got an update here. Turned the truck on and let it warm up for like 20 minutes. I'm not sure if there are multiple leaks or what but the worst definitely appears to be in the front and coming down the crankshaft pulley(?). The main hose from the radiator is not the source. I'm thinking I'll...

    Whats this leaking now?

I'm not sure. It's so hard to see certain areas. Oil cooler is on the drivers side though isn't it? You can see the shape the head gaskets were in back in 2021 when I made this video: Its a little hard to tell but the angles show both the back corners of the engine block

    Whats this leaking now?

I'm not sure what other specs to add. I had a coolant leak issue awhile back https://www.oilburners.net/threads/coolant-leaking-from-somewhere.89333/ I wouldn't say it's worth reading all of that but I think this is the same issue I had back then. Around me no diesel mechanic wants to work on...

I got down there and looked closer, it's definitely coolant

    Whats this leaking now?

I was just re-reading that long thread from years back, haha. I don't recall ever actually re-torquing them but maybe I did so I'm going to try again. I just ran the truck and let it heat up then gassed it for a minute and it started visibly dripping again. Still only seems to leak when under...

    Coolant leak

What was the relevancy of the slight vacuum sound heard when removing the cap? Can you elaborate on this?

    Whats this leaking now?

I think I'll turn it on and see if it just starts leaking again. At the moment it's not leaking it just kinda about to drip there but I'm assuming that if I get the engine running and warm and it just starts leaking its obviously coolant.

    Whats this leaking now?

It doesn't really have a smell. Its not dark enough for oil. I actually think it's coolant... so now this whole situation with the head gaskets needing to be replaced is back and the magic stuff in a bottle won't cut it this time
