That is the plan. This is a Jasper reman motor and the rods all have STD written on them. I am holding out hope that since the crank hasn't been turned it may have enough meat on it to be salvaged. This will be a slow budget build for daily driver. I don't really need the motor, but my kids...
I took 9 years for me to get around to it, but I did really want to see what had happened to this motor. That would be what was left of the #8 connecting rod. No issues with valvetrain.
It looks like the PO ran it low on oil which is why it quit on the side of the road. He left that detail...
Thanks Cubey. You solved it inadvertently.
I searched yesterday for my old posts, but 20 pages in only went to 2013. I redid it this morning and noticed a little button labeled "search older posts" 60 pages in I found it from fall of 2011. Now I need to take a few photos and update it.
I tore into a motor tonight that I promised to report back on in a post from sometime between 2010 and 2012. When I search my posts it only goes back to 2013. I guess I have been on here a while and there are probably not many who saw the original post, but I did say I would post pics of...
They were still offering the oilburners discount too last time I called. They had me a pump in three days that I had been looking all over the country for.
If your radiator is original, see if you can find a place to get it rodded. Those original brass radiators are better quality than anything you find today.
Where in GA are you? I just had a guy rod one of mine in Flat Rock Alabama. Its not far from the north GA line.
The only time I get the -20 reading is when the probe is not inserted far enough. It is a PITA to get it in far enough, but it sounds like you have won that battle. You didn't damage it getting it in did you?
Try holding it next to the flywheel with vice grips and see if you can get a reading
I open the box and if it says made in the USA I buy it. Never had an issue with that method. I bought a murray most recently that way, but it looked just like a hayden I had bought a couple years before.
I would check your u joints and make sure they are free and greased. A dry u joint will go for years running errands, but will cause major problems quickly on a long road trip.
I just put a generic parallel flow condenser in my Mercedes diesel. I had to fabricate brackets, but the condenser was only $40 bucks on ebay. It was brand new and shipped pressurized so it was definitely solid.
A parallel flow condenser will work better with modern refrigerants anyway.
I took my IDI east to the NC coast last year then went south to Key West and back again. 2800 miles round trip. Only averaged 15.5 mpg because the fan clutch was freezing up and locking completely randomly. Otherwise good trip.
Headed out in a couple weeks to northern Minnesota to canoe the...
That could be a cool build, but I don't enjoy picking up someone else's half finished project. In my experience they generally do all the easy stuff and each time they hit a roadblock they move to something else. I always end up with projects that are a never ending series of dead ends due to...
If you are still having the same issue after two fan clutches, odds are its a different issue. That radiator looks original. How do the fins look on the inside and out? It may be time for a good rod job or replacement.
If your radiator is clogged up and not dumping the heat out of the...
