I remote mounted one on my truck, I also have a bypass filter. Up to 17qt capacity overall and oil was still really good at 8000 miles when I sent a sample to blackstone. I've still been changing it every 5k miles, but it certainly helps keep the oil cleaner looking so can't hurt the engine...
Could be something smacking ever so slightly into inspection plate area on trans. When I put my new clutch and flywheel on my 7.3, the new stuff ever so slightly kissed the inspection plate. Yet only under torque. Coasting didn't hit it, but when the engine was under load it must have pushed...
For the noise and engine speed part, I can't hear in any IDI I've ever rode in. I've had a zf5 with 3.55s and a 6.9 c6 with 4.10s, either way talking to others or listening to the radio is pretty much impossible. You need sound deadening foam bs in the firewall and floorboards under the carpet...
I had an old 300 straight 6 with 350k miles, when the clutch exploded I decided it was best to just part it out. There's pics on here somewhere. I found 2 places in the frame where the previous owner had bondo'd the frame rails and stuck little sheets of plate steel in so it could pass the...
Took the kiddo to the local theme park today, AC blew cold the whole way. I re-did the AC recently so that made me happy. Some really nice hills to drive on and downshift on, this engine got re-built by an old timer at only 80k miles after the guy got worried driving it a few miles after a...
I've had a drip here and there from the old 7.3, I was initially expecting it to be valve cover on the passenger side or possibly oil pan seeping. Turns out, I don't know what it is.
First this random bolt isnt in if you look between the alternator and water pump. I had the entire front of this...
I've had a mechanical water temp gauge in my IDI for going on a decade now. I put it in the overtemp port, I drove the truck yesterday morning and it only read 120. I wondered if my thermostat stuck open, I couldn't check my heat because I have two three way ball valves installed to isolate the...
It's not much at all. 120-150 rpms I'd guess. You can make it as much as you want by extending the solenoid on the side of the pump. All it does is shoot out when the throttle isn't resting on it, it doesn't have the strength to push the throttle. When I still had my winter "beater" idi, I jb...
For what it's worth, I don't think any of us actually floor the things when we're cold starting them. I'm more of a 1/4 or 1/3 throttle person. I'm not sure how many PSI of oil it will take to blow the seals in my oil cooler or shoot off my oil filter gasket, but I'm not really interested in...
Definitely way too slow cranking speed. Idle noise sounds good me they are always loud if it's cold out and the timing is good. Might be idling a bit slow too.
I got annoyed with one of my idi starters when it got stuck on I couldn't get the battery cables off and rather than melting things for some reason I just stuck the truck in 4th gear, let the clutch out, and held the brakes and broke it. I'm not sure why I did that to this day. It did work though.
Leds in the factory housings are generally bad. Light doesn't reflect where it needs to go since the diodes aren't in the same spot as the filaments on a halogen. It will look brighter until you are driving and realize your lighting up everything and the light isn't focused where you look when...
Here's the writeup I did on here for the dremel and led method:
https://www.oilburners.net/threads/another-bricknose-lighting-option.87233/
For the hid one I'm struggling to find it but I swear I made one.
Headlight retrofits on these bricks are something I've done a ton. 2 best options imo are to buy the new headlights on ebay that have a clear housing and bake it in the oven. You can pry the plastic off and get the projector threads shoved through the bulb hole and put the locking nut on the...
Also just saw this. He went out of his way to get me an injector once when I went to my first idi rally in Bedford. Had one leaking at the threads internally a week before the rally. Sent him a video of it to verify because that's not super common and 2 days later I had a new one. I didn't even...
Everything is permanently done now. I have to say these straight through mufflers are useless. We got an 18" long one and I think it's technically more of a resonator [but probably keeps the cops from a ticket if you are loud and can point at it]. That being said it does absolutely nothing when...
Went for a drive today with nothing more than about 6ft of 3" pipe after a 2.5 to 3" adapter added about 8" from the factory Y pipe and his egts were down about 100* on any sort of incline while accelerating. He's gonna get an 18" straight through resonator style muffler
Yeah, I guess this was nothing more than verifying my sanity.
Comparing apples to oranges sometimes even though two trucks have the same engine. I've tried explaining that to him but he'll cherry pick 1 factor and ignore 5 others. My pump is cranked up because of my bigger exhaust and the fact...
Yeah, basically we're just trying to do anything we can to see if we can get the EGT's down while we re-do this. I'm pretty sure cutting the clogged and bent factory muffler off will probably make more of a difference than half of what we are considering doing. If it were me alone I'd just...
Exhaust on dad's idi is all but rusted off in several spots. We're just going to rig something 3" back as I have a ton of 3" pipe laying around from a buddies exhaust system he didn't need and gave me that we can at worst make a side exit in front of passenger tire and depending on muffler might...
Ended up just bolting the glow plug relay to where the controller was bolted. Feed wires to one big lug. Output to glow plugs and my own dash led on other big lug. Keyed power to small. Ground push button and wts from harness to other small lug. Works fine. Less wires always makes me happy.
