    Rad options

The CU1166 seems like a decent price if the construction is quality, but the short and wide radiators are less common in my experience. Most folks seem to need the more square radiator style. FWIW I have had a 2-row aluminum Spectra plastic tank model for the last 8 years or so and no...

Dana 50 wheel bearing replacement, how in-depth should I get

D50 hubs will transfer to a D60 axle. I bought a dually D60 axle but kept the hubs from my D50 and 80k later no problems.

    E4OD, preferred stacked plate cooler?

Any fitment issues with a 6.0 cooler on a Bricknose? Are inlet/outlet adapters needed?

    E4OD, preferred stacked plate cooler?

Currently I have tube & fin cooler installed but would like to install something better, especially since I'm doing a full fluid change and want to keep fresh fluid as fresh as possible. Stacked plate coolers seem to be the preferred design, but how many rows of plates? I do not plan to tow...

    GP Operation Issue (1988 7.3)

The factory setup is great when everything is perfect and it will let you know when something is wrong by giving you a short glow and lotsa' clicking. But with a manual GP even if 2 or 3 plugs are burnt out or wiring is bad you can still get a good glow on whatever plugs do work and at least...

Newbie to Ford’s with questions on hauling

It's hard to argue against a traditional inline 6 cylinder diesel.

    steering gear job!

Well BlueTop sounds like a business I will definitely be avoiding.

    steering gear job!

I've had good luck with my NAPA steering gear for the last 40-50k miles. The bolts holding the steering gear to the frame want some blue or orange thread-locker. This is also a good time to flush the system so maybe some extra plastic hose and a barbed fitting to tap into the return line...

Need to replace drain plug on 1356 t-case. Galvanic corrosion?

I'm careful around zinc--welder's sickness I think I've heard it called. I did once make a smoker out of a galvanized garbage can, but I burned off most of the coating and seasoned it by smoking a bunch of greasy bacon.

Need to replace drain plug on 1356 t-case. Galvanic corrosion?

Locally I can't find a plain steel plug--only brass or galvanized. Any reason to not use the galvanized? Shouldn't the zinc coating slow any corrosion? I could always just burn off the coating with a torch. I'm trying to avoid ordering from McMaster-Carr because I'll end up ordering a bunch...

    7.3, no oil pressure

MPG is unlikely to mean anything here, but it could mean fuel was leaking into the crankcase and that would explain all your symptoms. It sounds like you may be one of the unlucky few who has had their fuel pump diaphragm rupture and leak fuel into the crankcase. Check if your oil smells like...

Need to replace drain plug on 1356 t-case. Galvanic corrosion?

Good call on the steel vs brass. I found a chart that explains the difference in compatibility and I can see how both brass and steel are far removed from magnesium but steel is closer and a better choice between two less than ideal options.

Best location for E4OD temp sensor?

All that alcohol actually made you smarter as it has made me smarter as well, too. The way I see it is if a chain is only as strong as its weakest link then drinking just removes all those weak links leaving only the most potent, virile, and durable brain cells unfettered by their inferior...

Need to replace drain plug on 1356 t-case. Galvanic corrosion?

Yeah I just went with some brass pipe plugs so at least there's more to grab onto should things get tight. I guess when I was first started teaching myself how to perform automotive repairs I learned early on that "tight enough" actually was tight enough and that every fastener/threaded item...

Need to replace drain plug on 1356 t-case. Galvanic corrosion?

So somebody in the past has slightly boogered up the drain plug on my 1356 t-case, but thankfully I was able to loosen without further damage--why do people put those things in so damn tight? Anyways, I want to replace the drain plug and was wondering if galvanic corrosion is much of a concern...

Best location for E4OD temp sensor?

Thanks fir the replies, and for giving me about the same range of opinions I've been finding. Well since there don't seem to be any failures associated with incorrect temp probe location I guess I can't go too wrong. Perhaps it's time to flip a quarter or ask the magic 8-ball.

Best location for E4OD temp sensor?

Yes I know this subject seems to have been beaten to death like the Facet pumps but I've come across conflicting posts from folks who seem to know what they are talking about and I really want to do what I can to prevent damage to the transmission. So, many folks seem to like the pressure test...

So it is I.P. time, what else to look at?

I wish I had a garage of any size. Although it does not get cold where I live it does suck working on the truck when it's raining.

    Ignition cylinder problem

Got the new lock cylinder installed and everything works just fine. One bonus to spending too much time on a relatively simple task is that you know that task inside out frontwards and backwards. Thankfully the upper bearings seemed tight and smooth so once I get a new turn signal cam I should...

    Ignition cylinder problem

I appreciate the offer. Maybe you can answer my question about the thrust washer. As far as I can tell the thrust washer can only go in one way and then does not rotate due to the notch in the collar and the little tab on the thrust washer aligning--is this correct? I should have taken a...

    Ignition cylinder problem

I did lube everything that moves in there, basically. I can hit ACC, OFF, RUN, and START using a screwdriver but I'm not sure about the alignment of the lock cylinder gear as far as installing a new lock cylinder. I hope to hear from someone who knows about getting the alignment right between...

    Ignition cylinder problem

All right, so I got the new actuator rod installed. The actuator rod slides back and forth through ACC, OFF, & RUN but it feels rather stiff though I have nothing to compare it to so maybe it will loosen with use/wear. And yes I did lubricate the slide points with lithium grease. I actually...

    '87-'91 steering column options?

So after reading up on the 87-91 steering columns it seems that parts are a beach to find. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time and don't want to end up with a bad column and no parts available. Aside from finding a good JY part what are the current options? I need the tilt function...

Convert to push button start? No key needed?

Probably yes as to using pliers or the ever useful Vice-Grips on the actuator rod. But this truck is actually almost nice by my standards so I'm trying to keep things less hacked or at least "cleanly hacked".
